Thames Lido Description

Relax, indulge, unwind…

Thames Lido is the result of a 3-year restoration project of the Edwardian
Kings Meadow baths, undertaken by the team behind Bristol Lido.

Tucked away on a quiet corner of Kings Meadow, right by the River Thames,
our urban retreat is now open to the public, all year round.

Visitors to Thames Lido will discover it’s about more than pure relaxation.
The full Lido experience has an element of self-indulgence to it. Just how much is up to you…

Bethany, you made my day!

Thr Lido takes a LOT of looking after. There’s a lot of equipment and technology behind the scenes to make sure it all runs as it should.
In Reading we have Flávio and in Bristol they have Paul.
This was a very rare meeting a few days ago!
... They STILL can’t decide which Lido is best...

We’re even getting mentioned in lists we really shouldn’t be in.
We’re hoping to win a BAFTA before the end of the year for our little videos!
Anythings possible.

If you peruse the reviews we get on Facebook you’ll read a lot about the fabulous and friendly staff. People say that the staff are “friendly and helpful” and write things like “great staff who all go the extra mile to make your visit memorable”. Reading things like that makes us pretty proud of our Lido staff!
We know we don’t get it right 100% of the time though and we want to get better.
What we’re asking is, if you write a review, please mention any member of staff who stood out. We’re going to start rewarding our stars and it would be good to get some feedback from you, our Lido loving friends!

Don’t forget that, as it’s a Bank Holiday, we’re not opening until 7am tomorrow.
Have a little lie in and then join us at seven for some of this...

Some of you may have heard that there’s “a bit of a do” this weekend in Reading.
This means that the normally busy Reading car parks will be even more busy.
So, if you’re coming to visit us, driving would probably be a HUGE mistake!... The weather is pretty good for the weekend so maybe take a stroll to the Lido? As ever, if you’re cycling to us, please make sure you use a good quality bike lock.
We are open, as usual but this weekend is a bit of an unknown quantity for us! We’ll keep you posted though.

Our tiny little car park has got a very busy day ahead. It’s full for this morning with the tiniest possibility of one or two spaces later on this afternoon. Maybe.
We’d suggest cycling, busing or walking to us today. In fact, we’d suggest that MOST days!
PLEASE don’t get cross with the folks on reception when we have no spaces available...there just isn’t any room, sorry!

User

As usual, thanks to Richard for this post and for all of his support.
It’s much appreciated, Richard!

We’ve made the list of the 13 Best Things to do in Reading!
Such illustrious company too.
Just not sure where the reviewer was in the pool though....

Training at the Lido is taken VERY seriously!
By the way, if you’re playing Lido Bingo at home, we have Giovanni, Shealynn, Alex and Joe. We think it’s new boy Charlie, hiding at the back!

This is Marika. After joining in January she trained at the Lido, swimming 5 or 6km a week and relaxing afterwards!
Back on August the 5th she took part in the Thames Swim Marathon in Henley and swam 14km in the actual Thames!
Well done, Marika!

Meet Freddie “Teeny” McSweeney, possibly our very youngest member!
His mum messaged us around 13months ago, desperate for a pregnancy massage...and the rest is history! He’s yet to take a dip in the pool though....too busy messing about in the restaurant, by the look of it!

Regulars at our sister Lido in Bristol will know we take security pretty seriously and anyone coming in and trying to swim without paying will be escorted off the premises.
This hooligan was asked to leave after not paying for her tapas but shouted “stick it on my bill” as she left the building. Shocking.

User

There’s been a tiny bit of Lido membership stressing today....relax and DON’T PANIC!!
Our lovely phone team have had distraught people ringing up, worrying that they can’t get to The Lido until the weekend and worrying that all the memberships will have been sold!
It’s fine, really it is! You’ve got ages....at least a month, maybe more!
... Relax #bemorelido

If you’ve never considered being a swim member at Thames Lido, this post isn’t for you.
If you HAVE, read on..
In 2008 our sister Lido in Bristol opened and it was around six years before we closed the membership at 1000 members. At Bristol there’s been a waiting list for membership for more than 4yrs now.
... Thames Lido currently has just under 900 members and, just like Bristol, the membership will close at 1000 members.
We won’t be adding anymore members after that...

What a great place!!! Reading’s, not so hidden, best kept secret. I was taken here as a birthday treat by my girlfriend and discovered a beautifully crafted venue centred around the old Victorian open air swimming pool which has been fully refurbished and improved. The whole place has been beautifully decorated and is extremely stylish. We went in the evening for a meal. I didn’t know what to expect or, when it came to it, what to order. So we decided to opt for the bird-food menu, which is a taster menu of five courses of whatever is best that night. The quality and variety of food was simply fantastic and I have to be honest I thought being a taster menu the portions would be tiny...they weren’t. The food was so good to look at that my partner was photographing them and putting them out on social media, with someone from the Lido commenting whenever she did...I loved that personal touch, just brilliant! All the food was well cooked, beautifully presented and fully explained by the waiting staff. The fish stew was simply divine and stole the show for me!

All of the staff were fantastic, making us feel very welcome and were very knowledgeable of their venue and their menu. They are all a credit to the place and deserve a big thank because they helped to make our night a very special one!!!

All in all a great experience and one which we will be repeating, hopefully regularly.

I treated myself to a spa lunch day last week and absolutely loved it! The pool is glorious and I love how clean it is without the usual swimming pool smell! I found the whole experience totally relaxing - food was amazing and the massage was superb. I’ve been to the larger busier type spas, and I have to say this is a completely different experience. If you love swimming, great food, friendly people and beautiful surroundings, just go! I’m saving up to come again soon, thank you for a much needed day of indulgence x

I absolutely love this place. Every time I go here it feels like I'm on holiday, especially with the heatwave! Just what we all need. The Lido offers options for everyone to experience its facilities during the course of the week, member or non-member. I think that makes it special and takes a lot of working out to achieve. The staff, no matter how busy it gets (and let's face it it's the peak time of the year!) are always composed, generous with their service and efficient. I wish I could spend more time here- it really is one of my favourite places in Reading. I give it 10 stars.

We were a party of 9 having a dinner for a friends birthday last night and the service was very slow, especially the drinks orders. I had to send the toast from my fish stew back as it was really burned (they even tried to give them a quick “face lift” by scraping off the burnt bits). The fire alarm went off half way through the dinner and we joked that it was due to my burned toast... The evening ended on a bad note when a member of the bar staff suggested that one of our party was responsible for setting the alarm off; the accusation being that he had been vaping in the toilet! This is quite outrageous, especially as non of us even smoke.

-Non of us will hurry back any time soon.
