Seasonal summer parking vouchers are back for Thanet residents who want to use selected car parks in Ramsgate and Broadstairs. You'll be able to purchase discounted parking vouchers, subject to proof of address.
The scheme which was also in place last summer lets residents buy Car Park Vouchers which cover a whole day’s parking. They cost £2.60 each or £42.00 for 20 and are available to buy online at http://ow.ly/mXa550rk7tV
The vouchers are 'virtual' so there won't be physi...cal vouchers to display, instead our Civil Enforcement Officers will scan the number plates to check whether cars have have a valid voucher.
These reduced rate car park vouchers are only available to buy online, and can be used from now and until the end of October 2019 at the following five car parks:
Albion Street, Broadstairs Broadstairs Harbour, Broadstairs Chandos Square, Broadstairs Joss Bay, Broadstairs Marina Esplanade, Ramsgate

As part of an ongoing investigation, this blue van was seized by officers from Thanet District Council's Streetscene team working in partnership with Kent Police. The commercial vehicle is believed to have been used in a fly-tipping offence. The seizure was made on these grounds and falls under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Evidence relating to this offence was gathered at Dreamland Car Park.
Anyone who witnesses a fly-tip is encouraged to report it online http://ow.ly/NSFz50riNjv or to email sse@thanet.gov.uk directly

Did you know that by not cleaning up after your roast dinner properly you could be damaging the water quality at your local beach?
If you pour used cooking fat, meat juices or leftover food down the sink (even with hot water and washing up liquid) the fat soon sets hard in the cold pipes. When it mixes with other unflushable items, such as wet wipes and sanitary products, it creates what is known as a ‘fatberg’.
Fatbergs clog sewerage pipes and stop the waste water reaching t...he treatment works as intended. This means the risk of sewage spilling out into homes, streets, rivers and seas is substantially increased.
This Easter, we're asking people to be a good egg and help keep beaches and seas clean by making sure all leftover cooking fats and oils are put in the food waste recycling or bin, rather than poured down the sink.
Here’s some simple steps you can follow: 1. Scrape or pour leftover fat from roasting trays and pans into a heat resistant container then recycle or bin it once cooled 2. Wipe out grease left in pans with kitchen roll before washing 3. Use a sink strainer to catch any greasy food scraps #Binit4beaches

There are no changes to waste & recycling collections days over the Easter bank holidays. If your bins are collected on Fridays or Mondays please leave them out for collection as usual. You can check your collection day here: https://www.thanet.gov.uk/online-servi… /your-collection-day/

Seasonal toilets now open across Thanet
The seasonal toilets are now open and have been since early April, ahead of what is anticipated to be a busy summer season. This brings the total number of public conveniences currently open across the district to 27, up from 20 in winter.
Viking Bay beach toilets have undergone essential repairs and maintenance works but are on schedule to be open in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend.
... Margate Clock Tower toilets will remain closed. This temporary closure of the Clock Tower toilets is the result of a pre-season inspection in which they were found to be unsafe for public use.
These toilets flooded following a major leak which has also damaged the ceiling and tiles. A large crack was also discovered in the ladies’ toilet walls. The water that came in has since resulted in the electrics being condemned.
We are looking at putting temporary toilets in place this summer, while the Clock Tower facilities are closed.
The toilets at Buenos Ayres (by the T.S. Eliot shelter) and on the Harbour Arm in Margate are both still open. There are also a number of other public facilities in Margate.
An interactive map showing all of the toilets in Thanet can be found on the website: https://www.thanet.gov.uk/info-pages/publ ic-toilets/

Our Enforcement team has been busy! We recently brought two successful prosecutions for incidents of fly-tipping in the district. We were also made aware of a large fly-tip in the alleyway between Ethelbert Road and Athelstan Road in Cliftonville.
One of the challenges we face is that there are a number of alleyways in the District, and not all are council land. People dump things because they think they won't be caught or that the council will come and clear it up anyway.
...We are working on changing behaviour and creating pride in where we live - and lots of people are proud to live in Thanet. We see this with the many community groups who work incredibly hard to help us keep local areas clean. The majority of residents care very deeply but the small minority of residents who fly tip impact on life for everyone.
We continue to educate the public in a number of ways including highlighting examples of prosecutions, reminding people about their duty of care to ensure their waste is removed by a licensed carrier, offering a bulky waste collection service and reminding people of some of the other ways to dispose of unwanted items such as charity shop donations or using the Kent Recycling Centres.
Our enforcement officers and street cleansing team have cleared the alleyway - we thought we'd share some photos of how it looks now.

Important information for anyone who accesses the water, via the barriers and slipways. There is a new scheme in place to ensure that the level of safety for this user group is increased.
Members of Thanet based Water User Clubs e.g. fishing clubs, yacht clubs, water skiing clubs etc. and individual Water Users will now be asked to agree to updated rules related to key holding and water access.
It requires all water users to sign up to a code of conduct, pay an annual fee ...and provide evidence of third party Marine Public Liability Insurance in order to receive a key.

You may have noticed we have been doing a lot of work on our beaches and bays along the Thanet coastline recently. Our Engineering and Technical Services team schedule this work every year so our beaches are ready for the spring/summer season.
This work includes: - Flattening the bunds (big mounds of sand) that were built at Viking Bay and Ramsgate. - Clearing areas for the concessions (for example beachfront cafes and shops)
... Westbrook, Margate, Viking Bay, Botany Bay and Ramsgate beaches have now been completed. The team are now at Joss Bay and will also be at Western Undercliff and Palm Bay this week too.
To find out more about the work this team do to protect and maintain our coastline, visit: https://www.thanet.gov.uk/info-pages/coas tal-engineering/

This week another fly-tipper was caught red-handed!
The Thanet District Council joint enforcement team recorded this fly-tip as it was happening in Cliftonville. They were able to get there while it was in progress and catch the culprit. The offender accepted a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice.
In addition, they were made to clear the waste legally and given information about the range of legal disposal options that available.
... The majority of fly tipping in this area is committed by people that also live in the area. We offer a bulky waste collection service for all residents - details can be found on our website. https://www.thanet.gov.uk/online-se…/bu lky-waste-collection/
We would always urge people to make sure that they only give their waste to licenced carriers. You have a duty of care for your waste and should be sure it's being disposed of legally. We all have a responsibility to keep Thanet Clean.
