About The Alexandra

A friendly pub in Worthing serving great real ales, lagers, wines and spirits. A large beer garden with child play area.

The Alexandra Description

The Alexandra has been many things in its past, hotel, hostelry and of course a community pub. Lots of people know The Alexandra as The Alex.
The building dates from around c1830 and during those many years has had lots of external colour changes. I have been told that it was named after Queen Alexandra (1844-1925), wife of Edward VII.
A list of all of the known landlords.
1871 - William Howard
1874 - William Howard (Alexandra Tavern)
1878 - Sarah Howard (Alexandra Tavern)
1886 - Thomas John Martin (Alexandra Tavern)
1891 - William Cole (Alexandra Hotel)
1892 - William Cole
1899 - William Cole
1901 - William J Cole
1905 - Horace William Symonds
1918 - Horace Symonds
1927 - E J Blake
1931 - Mrs Blake
1980 - 1990's Steve Williams
1985 - 1988 - Margaret Benn
1990's later Bill Argent
2009 - John Cooper
2016 Darren Tovey-Yeoumans

The Alexandra was closed on 16th May 2015 for a major re-fit and opened on 20th June 2015. The external of the building changed it's colour again from green to cream, internally walls have been knocked down and the pub has been opened up fully.
We are a community pub who welcome all, food is served now 7 days a week, with a great selection of real ales, lagers, wines and spirits.
The pub has so far this year had 2 beer festivals plus family fun days. We now 2 darts teams. We have a bar billiards table plus traditional pub games.

What a splendid pub, super food and super friendly staff. We will be back to enjoy more of the great food and hospitality.

Went on Saturday for the first time to the Alexandra. Definitely not the last time. The staff was super friendly and the prices were reasonable.

User

We really enjoyed Bucklers Reel and the delicious Irish stew and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Great place to celebrate St Patrick's night.

User

The new Alex is coming on great, had a look in today. All so much improved. Saw Darren and he says food menu done and weekend entertainment booked until end of year.

Food is excellent staff welcoming great pub

A rare find haven't yet been to live bands they have on its next on list

User

Been in a couple of times recently, lovely atmosphere, great service, quality food and well kept ales. Certainly recommend you give it a try.

User

A great open mic night. A great pub. Full back line, some great talent and a sound guy who keeps everything in check. Can't wait for the next one!

User

A dog friendly pub who even supplied a boneo! Nice log fires, although not yet lit so can't comment on how nice they are just yet. Lovely garden with a small children's play area, under cover seating and BBQ area.

Nachos to share were delicious!

They seem to have lots of activities advertised so we plan to go to one of the live bands on a Friday or Saturday.

Drinks prices are middle of the road - not Three Fishes but then not hotel prices. Just a plesant pub at a reasonable price.

User

Nice chilled place. Went out for Sunday roast with family. Comfortable and relaxed for a Sunday with child friendly garden area and board games you can play to keep them amused..

User

Good beer, good Sunday lunch, service with a smile, very reasonable price; what more do you need, what more is there to say?

User

Best pub in the area by far - great food, excellent selection of beers, and everyone is really friendly. It's so good, I walk past other pubs to get here.

Give it a go, you'll not be disappointed.

User

Worst Sunday roast I've ever had, the potatoes had obviously been frozen and weren't even reheated properly so were completely raw inside, staff were friendly enough but the owner is possibly the rudest man I have ever met, and basically kicked me out saying he was doing fine without my custom. Left very angry as this used to be a brilliant pub until the latest owners took over. Over priced tripe

Upon first view is a lovely warm

Pub. However once inside it is very clicky. The bar staff are rude and make up rules. Taking money and giving them the change they love. However once you may oppose the behaviour of a local they turn against you. Was physically assaulted and called a c*nt by the management and a known regular. Locals gang up and follow each other's stories. Friends of mine in past year have also been refused when wanting to watch football. The management are crude and insensitive to everyone's needs. Avoid this pub at all costs!!!!
