We stayed for a week at The Brewhouse cottage (one of Les and Louise's lovely cottages on their Bakehouse property) and we had a wonderful time. The cottage was well appointed, cozy and very clean, with a cute little kids corner in the living room with some toys and books that our 4 and 2 year old loved. And I thoroughly enjoyed cooking with the Aga! It's worthwhile to note that some of the beams were quite low for my 6'3 husband but I believe the website warned us if that. The property is lovely, with a swing and sand pit for the kids, and is located near many lovely country walks. We visited in March so couldn't use the pool but I'm sure it's nice in the summer. Louise and Les were excellent hosts, always available and very helpful, and we really appreciated the welcome goodies and freshly baked bread. Finally, we dined at the Bakehouse a couple of times and the food was wonderful - I especially enjoyed our ice cream sundae, quite honestly the best I've had!

This weekend saw the long anticipated birthday weekend of my Mum (60th) and Granny (90th). We had previously attended a birthday of some friends at The Artisan Bakehouse and instantly fell in love with the quintessentially English location. From the driveway up to the house to the traditional cottage feel we felt like we had arrived in countryside heaven. We decided there and then that the celebrations should be held here and we were not disappointed.

Having a 4 month old baby made organising the event slightly more interesting! The party was held in the garden of the property which attached to this are two cottages which is where we took up residence for the weekend. This allowed us to not only host the party but also invite guests the next day to have a BBQ using the resources available. Having the accommodation gave me piece of mind when baby went down for a nap.

Louise and Les were a dream to work with on this and I have never tasted such glorious food. All of the guests commented on the wide selection offered to us (meats, salmon, salads, cheese, quiches, relishes, breads, strawberries, raspberries and oh my goodness the meringues!) and I truly felt that it was food made from the heart. We were able to hire a marquee which was attached to the beautiful Bakehouse where Les runs bread making courses (signing up imminently) and the tables were decorated with simple but elegant flowers taken straight from their garden.

The cottages themselves boast a huge open fireplace - big enough to fit a small army and my personal favourites were the aga in the kitchen and the roll top bath as well as the small touches - on arrival there was a bottle of cloudy apple juice, eggs, homemade biscuits (heavenly) and bread (which was also heavenly) left for us on the table and Les helped us with all of our luggage in to the house which was very kind.

I will never forget this weekend and we look forward to returning in the not to distant future. Thank you so much to Louise and Les for enabling us to host our very special weekend with you.

Anna and Isla! :)

This was a great day - instructive, but with a light touch, lots of 'hands on' - well organised and with delicious breads as the outcome. Inspired to try much more bread making at home and will be back for 'Stage 2' in due course...

Lovely lunch too!

The beautiful setting and wonderful food all made with tender -loving care make The Bakehouse a fabulous treat!

The home -cooked light lunches and amazing cakes are to die for.

Les and Louise are fabulous hosts and the staff professional and attentive.

Les teaches brilliant bread making courses, which my husband and I really enjoyed doing and of course eating!!

Highly recommend a visit .

User

Thanks for a great day yesterday learning how to make sourdough bread with Emmanuel Hadjiandreou. Delicious lunch too, but I ate too much as it was all so tempting! Can't wait to now try making my own sourdough.

User

Myself and three friends had lunch at the Artisan Bakehouse yesterday. The food was delicious and fresh, my Sussex charmer scone was just perfect, complimented by three yummy salads. Even though full (very good sized portions) I had to have a piece of Louise's Black Forest gateau which did not disappoint! Four very satisfied customers.

User

My sister & I took my mum here today for a birthday lunch, it was fantastic. The food was so tasty, very fresh and made using local produce. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, they made my mum feel very special on her birthday. The garden was so lovely to sit in, we felt we were on holiday somewhere! This was my first visit and I would definitely recommend it. The only dilemma was which pudding to choose, they all looked so yummy! Thank you Artisan Bakehouse for a lovely lunch and making it so special for my mum.

User

Little hideaway treat in the heart of the countryside very varied menu of all that is good and home made ...... definitely worth a visit. Very friendly caring staff and owners too

Just attended the Mediterranean bread making day and it was absolutely fabulous. Les was a great teacher, very patient and knowledgeable and I met a wonderful group of people also attending the class. The breads we made tasted amazing. I don't think I'll ever buy shop brought pitta again now I know how easy and brilliant tasting making your own is. Would highly recommend The Artisan Bakehouse to anyone and everyone.

I took my Dad for a belated Father’s day lunch here on Tuesday and we were blown away! Beautiful setting, delicious menu, exquisite service and fabulous local beverages! I can’t wait to go back! Get up the amazing work!

User

I recently went to the Artisan Bakehouse for my friend Jo's Hen party, it started by being welcomed by Les and Louise with some lovely cookies and coffee before we started on our pizza making course. A delicious lunch and afternoon tea followed, and we were fortunate enough to have a dip in the lovely pool too. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and I personally was really stuck by how lovely and gracious our hosts Les and Louise were - they made our day memorable and special.

Have just returned from a superb Perfume Making Workshop day, hosted by Les and Louise at The Artisan Bakehouse. A warm welcome, coffee, scrummy homemade biscuits and fresh fruit greeted us when we arrived, before the start of the workshop. Very informative, and came away with a bottle of bespoke perfume, which was created by all those in attendance.

A delicious lunch followed, which rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable day.

A fantastic location, the most delicious food, an excellent tutor, a bottle of perfume to rival any designer fragrance - all in all it was perfect! Thank you

User

Had a fantastic day learning how to make bread .... something that has never worked for me before! Les is incredibly informative and very patient! The lunch was delicious too! I’d totally recommend this as a great day out.

User

Fantastic venue for a work Team Day. Spent a happy few hours making pizza & bread with Les who has the patience of a saint :-) Got to eat our creations for lunch and later in the day had a beautifully presented dessert to round off the day. Facilities & location are amazing. Will definately look at some other of the workshops held here.

Excellent day with old and new friends making three types of bread - focaccia, French baguette and a seeded artisan loaf shaped in a bâtonne. Learnt a lot about the three different flours that we used and all the subtle ins and outs regarding bread making. As a novice bread maker (even though I have a good bread making machine - which doesn't count!) I would highly recommend this course which included a fabulous lunch with wine, and look forward to doing there other course - Mediterranean Breads.

User

Attended a macaron course run by Sarah McLoughlin and it was brilliant. We were welcomed with cake and coffee, shown how to make macarons. - we then all made 3 different types. Then we had an amazing lunch in the beautiful gardens whilst the macarons were baked. After that we had a session of decorating and packing our tasty treats all ready to take home. Thank you for such a well organised day.

User

An excellent day last week at the Artisan Bakehouse on their 'Introduction to Bread making Course. It was a treat for all the senses: the very fine flour felt like silk, the enticing smell of the bread, the joy of hand kneading the dough, the delight in seeing the bread once it is baked & last but not least it tasted delicious. Thank you Les for a fun & very informative day & thank you Louise for a delicious lunch. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has never baked bread before or for those who are just starting.

User

A very enjoyable Introduction to Bread Making day - fun and educational, with great results! Les and Louise made us very welcome and I would recommend their courses to anyone interested.

A wonderful, tasty lunch.

Cakes looked amazing but unfortunately the slice of lemon meringue cake I had was dry

I was very surprised to see a number of the cakes sitting there uncovered and open to the elements! Such shame!
