3 Medieval facts about Mead:
1- The taste of Mead can vary dependant on which flowers the bees producing the honey have pollinated.
2- During the medieval period, mead was a common drink – it was safer to drink than water!
... 3-The term ‘Honeymoon’ is derived from Mead – it was common that the father of the bride would gift a months worth (‘moons worth’) of Mead (‘honeywine’) to a couple after their wedding – combine to two to get honeymoon!
If you want to find out some more facts, pop into the attraction and ask one of our friendly Tour Guides.

We were here this week, three adults and two younger teenagers - we had the best time. The staff were amazingly friendly, the guys in the medieval garden were brilliant. I learnt loads about a subject that I actually didn't know anything about!

Thanks for a great wee day out!

We enrolled in spook academy today and our children aged 9 absolutely loved it. Our teacher was brilliant , she played the part great! Highly recommend this for Halloween. So nice to see people go to great lengths for this time of year. A good look around Canterbury tales afterward was interesting.

User

This was my 2nd trip as a grown-up. Used to love it as a kid! Have now taken my own children to both the spook academy and the magical medieval christmas adventure. Staff were great both times. Seasonal fun with a historical twist, what's not to love?!!!

User

This was a fun, light hearted introduction to Chaucer's Tales. Nothing too heavy, just fun. My favourite being the Miller's Tale. . It was a little dark and I tripped up a couple of steps, but that added to the fun. Both the Forrester on reception and the young lady from the Inn who led us into the tales, played their character roles beautifully. Expensive? Possibly, but actually I didn't mind, it was a good use of a lovely space. I recognised more of the tales than I thought I would and have been inspired to read more. Would recommend.

User

Spook Academy was amazing Thank you! We all really enjoyed the tour and learnt something new. Your staff were friendly and welcoming!

User

So good. The Spook Academy was excellent. The events are always so beautiful, imaginative and creative

My small group of 2 adults and 3 children aged between 7 and 10 years, have just experienced Knight School at The Canterbury Tales. As you can guess, it was an overnight experience for children to train as a knight for the night. Oh my gosh, what a 5 star experience. We were met by our hosts Sally and Odo who were amazing and welcoming throughout our stay from 7pm Friday until 9am Saturday. Our adventure began by expertly being shown around the exhibits to choose a room to sleep in. We brought our own sleeping bags, but eye masks, tooth paste/brushes, a torch and bottled water were included in each of our overnight goodie bags. The children had a very exciting time learning sword fighting techniques, shield making, story telling, a treasure hunt, games in the garden, holding a real sword and wearing a real medieval helmet, plus more. Snacks of cookies and hot chocolate were included in the evening and breakfast consisted of fresh fruit and chocolate croissants, all dietary needs and disabilities were taken into consideration. There was dress up with costumes available for both boys and girls. Our hosts were very knowledgeable in anything Chaucer and his tales and so very helpful and hospitable in every way. We felt safe and secure at all times with night time lighting adjusted to our needs. The children never wanted to leave, begging to stay another night. This was definitely a memorable experience, one that can never be beaten. Thank you so much for such a fabulous night.

User

Loads of fun & my son loved it. He wants to show everyone now plus 'Contagious' rocked. I screamed a fair few times & was great fun for my sister & I!!

User

Had a lovely visit today. Thank you for the warm welcome special thanks for the special care and welcome of our 2 year old. Would highly recommend

User

Fun times were had by all. the garden is lovely, great trees and small bats were collecting their dinner, most guests didn`t contribute for this lovely evening! There were too few seats, we sat on cut tree logs!

I wasn`t permitted to drink my one bottle of beer! yet you are having a beer tasting night soon!

All in all it was a good thing to attend the camp-fire tales.

User

Fantastic place! Great staff too - highly recommended

User

Excellent introduction to Chaucer and Canterbury Tales! Having a degree in English Literature, I can't imagine a better way to quickly and enjoyably experience Chaucer's world and work. Well done!

User

First ever visit to Canterbury tales, courtesy of Kents big weekend ticket scheme - fab staff, good tour, lovely shop. even got to see my family coat of arms & some history :)

User

Very very disappointed I believed it was going to be a fun educational experience for my little girl, but ended up being smelly, dark and boring. The only good part was the euthuastic staff

User

Very disappointing total waste of money and gifts bought in gift shop were broken before we got back to the car

User

The whole experience isn't worth the entrance fee, we left very disappointed, I've rated 2stars because of the staff whom were very friendly and attentive, unfortunately we won't be visiting again.

User

As a child I remember the best part of this walk-through, was the war section of Canterbury and specifically took my children to see this and it has disappeared from the tour. 20 mins walking round with an audio guide for basically half a dozen of rooms was a rip off. The live actors in the first and last room we okay, but the rest of it looked tired and not updated. If this is Canterbury's best and most popular tourist attraction then I feel sorry for visitors to this town.

User

I found it dull and dated. It was also extremely cold in there. The staff however were very nice.
