‘Cheltenham Festival Preview night’ We are planning a Cheltenham Festival Preview Night on either Sunday 3rd or Monday 4th of March depending on interest. The evening will be hosted by local Jockey Mattie Batchelor and his guests (to be announced). They will go through the main races for each day and take your questions, no doubt with a few laughs along the way! It will be a ticketed event at £10 per person with any profits from ticket sales going to charity. So who out there... would be interested??? Rottingdean will be participating in the National Beacons of Light in order to commemorate the centenary of WW1.
The beacon will be lit at 19:00 on Sunday 11th November.
The community are invited to attend and the following advice is provided to ensure an enjoyable and safe event.
... Remember this is about commemorating the centenary of WW1. The Rottingdean Branch of the Royal British Legion asks for your adherence to the following principles.
In addition we will be clearing the site on Monday 12th from 09:00. Volunteers are welcome to assist in the clear up. Please help us to conduct a safe, respectful and fitting act of remembrance in memory of those that lost their lives, the injured and their families.
1. Wear good robust footwear and warm wet weather clothing. It may well be raining. 2. Stick to the mown paths at all times 3. Bring a torch, there is not any lighting. 4. Keep young children with you at all times, it will be dark on the hill. Consider reflective clothing for them and their own torches etc. 5. Some may find it easier to observe from the Beacon Hub car park area. 6. No litter to be left on site, please respect the environment. 7. Only official vehicles will be on site, no private vehicles at any time. 8. Please do not cross any barriers and fences put in place, they are there for your safety. 9. Please observe the instructions from the marshals who will be identified by orange tabards. 10. There are no toilets or facilities on site, do not arrive too early.
