We love the Duke William, it's our favourite Monday hang out and we've been at least 8 times this year- fantastic pub, cosy in the winter with a lovely log fire. Fun in the summer with a huge outdoor garden. Very dog friendly, dog biscuits and lots of fuss. Food is always spot on and staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. Great stuff - thanks DW team x

User

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch here today & were well looked after by Sam and his team. We sat at a lovely shady table in the garden with our dog (a water bowl provided as we sat down). We love coming here & recommend it highly. A perfect pub experience!

User

Was brought a Travelzoo meal for my 60th birthday. Decided to add a stopover, we were not disappointed. The staff, the food and the accommodation was excellent. We would certainly return

User

Spent a perfect night at the Duke William! From the first G&T (from a huge range of phenomenal gins), to the cute, yet funky room, via amazing dinner of plentiful yet stylish top notch food and an awesome breakfast. All the food is just so full of flavour!

We loved all the little touches like complimentary liquer in the bedrooms, plus the friendly caring staff. We have already recommended to several friends and if you are looking for an indulgent yet relaxed night aeay, this is it. Bliss!

User

Just enjoyed "Steak Night" at the Duke William. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with efficient but unobtrusive service. Loved to see the customer's dogs welcomed in.

Steaks cooked to perfection. But the "WOW' moment was the Chocolate Pot with Honeycomb Ice Cream. Best dessert we've ever tasted.

Great night out.

User

I was given a voucher for my birthday, for the steak night which is a Monday night it was quite busy for a Monday. Our steak was cooked to perfection medium rare and the other was medium. The staff where lovely, other dinners very friendly. A bottle of house wine that came with the meal was lovely too. The offer for everyone is steak for 2 is £30 jncluded is a bottle of house wine, they only do red or white, we had the white which was very nice for house wine. We would definitely recommend and go back again. The atmosphere was lovely. Parking was low spaces so I would recommend early like we did. 6.45 pm. But very worth while.

User

I stayed here in May for my birthday. Food was delicious, staff were very friendly, and the pub just had a lovely atmosphere to it. We've just moved to Canterbury so we'll definitely be back again and would highly recommend to anyone in the area

User

Had lunch with a friend yesterday, a wet Monday in January. I expected it to be empty but quite a few people eating and good atmosphere.

Food was excellent and plenty of it, large portions.

Staff friendly and efficient.

Would recommend.

User

Had a midweek lunchtime meal with my partner for my birthday.

The staff were attentive without being overbearing.

There was a good atmosphere with returning regulars and passing customers.

The food; prawn cocktail / salmon fishcake, Burger / Rump steak, Banoffee pie/ Chocolate pot were amazing and come highly recommended.

A true hidden gem and well worth a visit if you have the opportunity.

Thank you for making my birthday special.

User

Had a lovely stay , with evening meal , and breakfast the following day .

Great food ( as always) ; lovely room, with many thoughtful little extras. Nothing was too much trouble. Happy staff . Would recommend.

User

Genuine caring service, fantastic food and great draft beer. What more could you want?

User

Absolute little Gem

Great food

Amazing staff

Everything about this place is perfect

User

only had a drink but we are very impressed with service and staff very good, drink was good ,we will be back to eat with all the family in the future.

User

Enjoyed a dinner for three of us in the warm and convivial atmosphere of this lovely old pub. Although very distinct and unique in its own style of service and quality, there are reassuring echoes of the style of menus at sister eateries Rocksalt and Wife of Bath. The service is less fussy and more informal than Rocksalt but no less enjoyable and professional for all that. The food was delicious, piping hot and of a quality that would compel any trencherman like me worth to finish his plate and leave feeling feel satiated and pleased with life. The Pie and Pint evening is a standout feature of the culinary week and the variety of homemade pies are particularly to be enjoyed with a range of local ales. Highly recommended, a bright jewel set in the verdant Kentish countryside - can’t wait to visit again.

User

Staff lovely and welcoming. Loved the furry friends . Food nothing special apart from very overpriced for what you got. Wouldn’t hesitate to return for a pint but not to eat .

User

Had dinner, bed and breakfast and stayed in the 'Stein' room. I must say that our dinner was very lovely despite the fact that the pub didn't stock Bacardi. However, if you're looking for a quiet place to stay then this is not the place for you. You could hear all the music and clinking of glasses from the bar downstairs until midnight (which we accepted, it was a pub after all). However, we were not impressed that from then on until 12:30am, the remaining staff decided to have a party before going home for the evening. They cranked up the volume of the stereo which rang throughout our room having little consideration for the paying guests upstairs.

We hoped that breakfast would redeem the lack of sleep, especially with the excellent dinner the previous night. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a joke. For a 'Full-English', it appeared rather lacking: there was no choice of egg, it had to be poached; no hashbrown, we weren't allowed to have baked beans, which meant the whole thing was just dry, and the 'toast' which was provided was a bit of stone-cold toasted bread used for the table from the night before accompanied with a rock-solid slab of butter. Considering we were the only two guests staying that night, and they had nobody else to cook breakfast for, we were shocked that our toast couldn't be warmed on arrival.

All this being said, the Duke William is a cosy place for dinner and a drink (providing you don't want a rum and coke). We would definitely come here again for the pub restaurant, but unfortunately not for the Bed & Breakfast.

User

Father’s Day/my birthday table of 9-

Unfortunately a disappointing experience had by all, usually food of a better standard, waitress could not tell difference between beef and lamb roasts when she brought food out ( we corrected it), birthday cake and candles totally forgotten about (even though we all had puddings), had to ask for bill twice as totally forgotten by same barmaid. Happy to pay the bill but overall disappointing.

User

Sadly I felt that they were to busy and that the service was slow as our food came after eight people and their was only four of us .

User

We have eaten here a few times over the years and tonight reconfirmed why we don’t bother making the journey often. Stopped tonight for food on the way back from playing golf at Canterbury - we were hungry after 4 hours on the course. Ambience is brilliant and the staff are lovely but really ... the food ... just terrible and such poor value for money - what are they doing My partner had the duke William burger (£13) and I had chicken breast and chips (£17!!!) ... burger dry and ingredients poor, bun stale; chicken anaemic (tasteless but texture good though), 4 chips and had to remind them we had spinach on the side. We were so hungry we ate it but we will never be back again I am afraid and would not recommend to friends and family. Our view - stick to some good British dishes, concentrate on your presentation and flavouring. The food just doesn’t do the rest of your offering justice
