About The Frog And Nightgown, Faygate

The Frog and Nightgown is a Freehouse serving real ale and local craft beers, situated on Wimland Road just off the A264 between Horsham and Crawley.

The Frog And Nightgown, Faygate Description

100 years ago, the pub was known as The Royal Oak, serving bottled beers to the first ten people to come through the door, as this was all the small pub could accommodate. Formerly two cottages, Jim Reynolds purchased the building, extended the bar area and renamed the pub in 1984. Jim, a WWII Halifax pilot and his wife Janet, a school teacher in Poundhill, Crawley, provided the local community with a place to gather and socialise. Jim passed away in 2010, leaving Janet to solely run the premises, with help from the locals, but this all came to an end when Janet sadly passed away towards the end of 2012.

Over the next three years, the pub laid empty, with a few offers made to turn the building from a pub, back into the two cottages it was originally. These were declined by Janet’s family and Horsham District Council, much to the joy of the locals. With such a community created over the years, each Christmas Eve everyone would gather together for a Carol Service in a neighbours’ property. On the gathering of 2015, a local couple, known to drink in the pub for over 20 years, announced they had purchased the property, and were set to reopen as a pub in the first half of the year.

Since that evening, work began to re-open The Frog and Nightgown once again. The pub has undergone a spot of much needed refurbishment, yet retains the character of ‘The front room pub’ that it was known as by many people in the local, and surrounding areas.

Situated just ½ a mile off the A264, the pub has been referred to as ‘one of Horsham’s best kept secrets’. Surrounded by fields, the large pub garden is perfect for relaxing with a cold drink on a sunny afternoon. During the colder months, the traditional ale pub feel, complete with original open fires and chesterfield sofas welcomes you to relax, listen to your favourite record on the radiogram, with your favourite drink.

Working closely with local breweries in Sussex, The Frog and Nightgown aims to provide cask ales, specialty draught beers, and a range of different ciders. There will always be something to quench your thirst!

What a lovely place our friends have been here before and said how good it was for food and atmosphere we will definitely come back we’ll done to the wonderful staff

User

We moved to Faygate 4 years ago and were thrilled when this Pub re opened! It has now become our favourite! The staff, along with the couple who run the pub are so lovely and friendly!

We went to their Fireworks evening last night and despite the fact that the bar was heaving, they were still all smiling!

So we will continue to make as many of your events as possible, with our friends and family. We can't wait for the next one!

Highly reccomend this pub! Food is excellent, reasonable prices, friendly staff, lovely Otto the dog, dog friendly and top notch event evenings!

User

We have loved this pub for years and were sad it closed a few years back. Went back this week and it’s great to see the heart of the old place very much alive and kicking - only a lot cleaner now! Lewis is doing a brilliant job. Xx

User

Tramped across the fields to get there with my daughter and cocker spaniel in tow and well worth the effort.Used to visit 20+years ago so it was a bit deja vu. Still a bit quirky but it's been sympathetically restored and a bit like drinking in your front room.

Good beers and the pork pie with chutney is an excellent accompaniment. Most important dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on their lead. A brave venture which deserves to succeed .

Took my mum for afternoon tea yesterday to celebrate her birthday. Wonderful food, really friendly staff and a lovely welcoming place. So nice to have a proper village pub so close.

User

Took my daughter here yesterday for a birthday treat.. was absolutely lovely couldn't fault anything.. staff were very polite and service was great.. prices are very reasonable. My daughter has already asked to go every weekend... would defiantly recommend

User

This place is wonderful - great friendly staff, warm welcome and a true little gem. The icing on the cake is that it is very dog-friendly and my Westie "Hamish" feels very "at home". The place is clean and tidy, good value tasty food and drink and we are becoming regulars to the tea room.

User

Been wanting to try this place for a while. We finally visited yesterday and wasn't disappointed. Had a lovely dog walk followed by a great ploughman's but think we should of done the walk after considering the size of ploughman's! Definately want to return to try the frog afternoon tea.

User

A great little gem tucked away down a country lane...found by chance. Lovely little tea room with a real fire , food and service very good. A charming place.

User

Started going here regularly back in the spring and really like it. Lovely to sit in the garden in the summer to get the last of the sun. They don't have a kitchen big enough to do meals but do snacks instead, ploughmans, pork pies etc. They also have a 'visiting' kitchen, a mobile stone baked pizza van making great pizzas at a reasonable price, and a mobile Thai kitchen doing great food, again at a reasonable price. Great idea!
