A first dusting of snow this year for Thorpe Cloud. I think many of you may have seen rather more snow!

Crumpets, Brown sauce, tomato, egg and Izaak Walton ale rarebit but not in the standard way. New restaurant menu coming soon so it's time to test!

We have had a fabulous festive period. All the Christmas decorations are now down and being packed away for another year. We are now taking bookings for 2019 Christmas and New year at 2018 prices if you book before 31st January 2019.

Busy this morning making the table decorations for Christmas Day.

Starting to feel Christmassy ? Then come and enjoy mulled wine and a mince pie in front of our open fire.

What a wonderful hotel. Stunning setting. The staff are superb and couldn't do enough for us. The food was 5 star. Great value all round

The rooms were more than comfortable. Some areas of the hotel could do with a spruce up, however this didn't in any way spoil our visit. Would definitely recommend and will visit again in the future

We stayed for 2 nights. We booked a superior room, which had recently been updated. Lovely views, lovely room. We also enjoyed one of the lounges, playing board games after our evening meal.



Bar food first night was good; a la cârte in the restaurant on our second night was first class. The chef's creations were blissful, particularly the panacotta dessert with the home made milk chocolate 'Magnum', so says Mrs James.



Friendly staff, without being intrusive. Perfect spot for exploring the southern part of the Peak District.

We stayed for 2 nights last week and we were so impressed! The staff were extremely helpful, the food was amazing, room warm and comfortable and spotlessly clean. In all a fabulous place surrounded by amazing scenery a fantastic place to walk, relax and wind down. Thanks everyone , we will return.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Hubby went fishing on the hotels stretch of river. Food was good, wine was good, room was nice, and the staff couldn’t be faulted. Would definitely reccomend to everyone and would love to go back. �

Stayed for business, it was perfect for me on my own. It was a cosy and friendly hotel, eating alone in the bar was a breeze by comparison to other hotels. Other guests were happy to engage, which made me feel included. The food was fantastic. Would recommend and stay again. Thank you for being so attentive 😊

Idyllic surroundings amid craggy peaks and lush green meadows. By far our best stop in a journey from Singapore through Wales and the Midlands. This stylish hotel combines old world charm with modern, friendly customer service. Highly recommended.

I stayed here recently with a friend and both our dogs. We had 'dog-friendly' rooms next to each other across the courtyard from the main hotel and I can recommend absolutely everything about this hotel! Dogs are allowed in the main hotel "anywhere on the tartan carpet" - and that is actually the nicest part of the hotel. They stayed with us in the bar at mealtimes and the staff always offered a bowl of water with ice-cubes which the dogs loved. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the food was superb and the location of the hotel meant that we never had to use the car to get to a lovely walk. We really enjoyed our stay.

Had a superb Mothers Day lunch with my Family. The food was divine. We all throughly enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The Hotel is in the most picturesque setting. The Haddon Restaurant has wonderful views of Thorpe Cloud. Wether you want a bar meal after a walk or something more formal in the Reataurant you can't go wrong at The Izaak Walton. The Chef is an asset to the Hotel. We will definitely be back .

Great first time experience for us taking 2 Dogs on holiday ........

and celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary......fabulous location,super hotel completely dog friendly!! Champagne,chocolates,flowers and afternoon tea all thoroughly enjoyed.....with the backdrop of Dovedale making our stay just perfect!!!

Great country hotel. Food is outstanding. Some of the best I’ve had anywhere. Try the tuna and the steak. Friendly professional helpful staff. Lovely setting on the edge of the Peak District. Room decor a bit average and dated. But I will come again just for the food and location. Highly recommended.

Couldn’t wish for a better way to spend Easter Bank Holiday weekend with my family (including two labradors). The setting, service and food is just fabulous. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend. Thank you to all the lovely staff for looking after us. Will miss waking up to the stunning views and delicious breakfast xxxxx

Attended our best friends wedding Lucy Parker and Robbie Parker 13th August 2017. The staff were so helpful and always smiling. The hotel was immaculate and in the most picturesque location. Couldn't fault it and highly recommend anyone to visit!

An excellent stay in a great location. Food was very good, we had a brilliant evening meal in the restaurant and a good traditional breakfast, lots of choice.

All staff were warm, welcoming and knowledgable. Shaun, our waiter last night stand out.

Highly recommended.

8 if us and 2 dogs just had a wonderful dinner here. Each of our meals were delicious. The hotel is so dog friendly and nothing too much trouble - even offered to bring the dogs a drink and when it arrived it was a spotless big bowl of water with ice. The staff were all lovely and friendly. Thank you for a great evening.

It's a lovely hotel, beautiful and full of character staff were friendly and helpful. It was perfect for what we wanted as we were going to Alton towers. Food was nice in the bar, good breakfast and good facilities. Our room was nice and had beautiful views, the only thing I would say is that the bathroom needed updating desperately didn't expect modern because that wouldn't be the style for the hotel but for £119 a night would expect a shower that works so you can wash properly, I struggled to rince the shampoo out of my hair took ages �

How is this hotel only 3 star rated great stay friendly staff great food. The only reason I'm 4 star is didn't sleep too great very warm in room had to have windows open.
