‪Happy new year from all at spiky! ‬

User

For info, Spiky Club is open all Fridays over Christmas as normal... 22nd and 29th December and 5th January.
Use of Christmas music is, however, entirely banned on pain of the 'inquisition dungeon experience'.
Happy holidays!

Hi All, Next week is Warfare and as many of you will be aware we lend all of our 40k scenery to WAR to enable them to run the event without resorting to playing on planet bowling ball.
Because they set up on Friday night they will be taking the majority of the scenery before the club meets on the 17th November. If anyone who's playing 40k next week can let us know in advance that would be great so that we can make sure that enough terrain boxes are left in the cupboard. If yo...u don't tell us you may end up having to play on a backwards agriworld (which looks a lot like the mortal realms...).
There will still be tables mats and enough scenery for AoS/9th Age/X-Wing etc. regardless. If you want to play anything else it will be business as usual.
Thanks for your cooperation in this matter,
The Committee

Call to Chordata: Phase 3 brief: Somethings stirring…
The battle for Aconiton reaches a crucial phase this month – with personnel and scout parties still going missing across the surface and the arrival of Heretics, Grey Knights and the ongoing Aeldari presence, something big is imminent – All will be revealed depending on the outcome of club night games in September.
As previously mentioned, the themes in this phase will be maelstrom games and ‘domination’. With the faction ...scores so close, there are plenty of bonus points to be gained this month and no armies have a particular advantage. The aim is to gain ground and dominate the region in an attempt to understand what is happening (as well as crushing other’s hopes of doing so!).
However, as the leading general Chris will have a secret objective in each game as he has accumulated more knowledge of what is happening than anyone else. He has had the highest score in the two months to date… Somebody stop him!
Phase 3 points will be awarded as follows (capped at your 2 best results, as always):
Individual: Win +5 / Draw +3 / Loss +1 Faction: Win +1 / Draw 0 /Loss 0
Bonus points: There are two ways to achieve additional points (individual and faction) in phase 3: - Any games of Maelstrom – So simple… (+1 faction and +1 individual). Everyone. - By achieving the following maelstrom cards at any point in a club night game: ‘Domination’ or ‘Priority Orders Received’ (+1 per card to both faction and individual). Note that the leading general at this point will have a different bonus objective in each game.
For those interested, the leading 10 individual point tallies to date are:
Chris R = 22 Alex = 20 Yaro = 17 Rick = 16 Adrian = 14 David H = 13 Simon B = 12 Ian = 10 James B = 10 Rob C = 9
Happy gaming in September!

Call to Chordata: Phase 2 Conclusion
>As the bombardment continued, the bunker shook and accumulated dust drifted around the command centre from the force of the ordnance. The Imperial Guard Lieutenant grimaced and turned to his communications officer, face covered in sweat and grime.
‘Still no word from the fleet?’
... Hunched over a glowing console, the only response was a small shake of the head accompanied by an almost imperceptible furrowing of the brow. The brief quiet was broken by a further sequence of impacts as the enemy guns continued to pound on the imperial position. The lieutenant mumbled under his breath as the barrage continued.
‘What use are the bloody space marines if they don’t turn up when they are supposed to? Those bloody renegades have been pounding us since the 2nd founding!’
As the communications officer shrugged and turned towards his commander, his eyes widened in horror. He began the long reach down for his sidearm and barked a warning. The cry was muffled by the ongoing bombardment but the experienced Lieutenant recognised and reacted to his brothers movements. He began to turn as a sinking feeling plunged a cold dagger into his heart. It was joined a moment later by a curved blade which carved through his carapace armour and emerged out through his chest. The glow of an alien weapon flashed from over the dead lieutenant’s shoulder accompanied by a low whine. The communications officer was pinned in place with a flurry of lethal shards and slumped back over his beloved console.
Allowing the corpse to slide back off his blade, the Drukhari strode from the shadows into the flickering light. Various maps of the local area lay strewn across a central table, but the figure ignored these. Moving swiftly and silently, the alien picked up a small archaic cube which had found use as a paperweight. After examining it briefly, the figure slipped the artefact into his cloak and vanished once again into the night.
Moments later, the bloodied console in the centre of the room sparked into life. The only other sound was the pounding artillery on the roof of the bunker, but both dialogues remained unanswered<
The second phase of the campaign has come to a close, and we currently have two factions level pegging on narrative points. The Imperial factions appear to have succumbed to complacency from their early successes and conceded their advantage. Thus, the Imperial and Xenos factions have accumulated exactly the same number of points thus far, with Chaos just 3 behind.
This leaves the area under investigation heavily contested with no clear faction domination established. This means everything is very much to play for in the 3rd phase, effectively through September. The themes in this phase will be maelstrom games and ‘domination’.
Congratulations to Chris Ryder who has remained on top of the individual pile through the second month.
Challenges and points for the third phase to follow...

The 'Call to Chordata' campaign is now sooo close I'm double checking results before announcing the status and next phase... the Imperial war machine's wheels really did fall off in the last two weeks (Lies, Lies, Lies; please report to your local Commissar for 'reeducation' Alex)...
More to follow... building a little tension...

Busy night last night, with some fun game going on. In fact so much fun was had that I didn't pay attention to it. I blame Chris... (Not his fault, but he is Chris so generic person we blame for anything and everything).
Next week will be the first week of phase 3 of our 40k campaign, and the first week of the new General's Handbook at the club so if you've not get sorted out a game why not head over to the group and/or forum and get organised. See you all next week.
