A Wild Night of Werewolf Stories
If you’re feeling a little furry and fancy a change, why not run off in to the woods with The Travelling Talesman for an evening of terrifying transformations, hairy horrors and canine curses.
Still panting from a full summer programme running between his work as Consultant Storyteller to the National Museum Of the Royal Navy and festivals such as Larmer Tree, Wickham and Purbeck where he is building a strong reputation as the late night stor...yteller for adults, The Travelling Talesman (or Cliff if you don’t want to trip up your tongue with all those ’T’s) has gone beyond the cliches of modern filmmakers and Victorian writers to sniff out the stories that inspired them. Delving deep in to the lore he has whistled up a pack of hairy, scary folktales about the beast within.
Expect: toothy terrors, lupine laughs and fantastical folklore.
A snappy little show that will have you howling in the aisles.

The Wave Maiden has the vibe of a neighborhood bar with plenty of dedicated regulars, while also providing a top quality, ever changing selection of beer. No, seriously, they have the best selection of beer I’ve ever encountered! They even have good quality gluten free beer, which is VERY hard to come by! They have a fantastic, friendly, dedicated, knowledgeable staff who have tried everything on the menu and are quick to recommend a unique beer for you. The interior is decked out with reclaimed wood, old Italian wallpaper, hand picked light fixtures; you can tell it was a labor of love for the owners, a beautiful one at that! The Wave Maiden really comes to life when they put on a event. It’s the best music venue in Portsmouth! My partner and I love this place and make sure to stop by any time we're in the area!

Portions are a little on the large side, depending on what you have but lush food and nice lager!

Popped in today, been in a few times before! Every time has been great! Service is fab and the food is awesome.

I was a first time customer tonight, and I do want to return.



I made it clear I was there for the doodle Club, and that it was my first time attending so I wasn’t sure where to go or if I was allowed upstairs yet. The gentleman that served me gave me the information I needed, and allowed me to wait upstairs.



I very rarely drink alcohol, so I can’t say anything on any alcoholic drinks. However, I ordered a Pepsi which they offered an alternative as they did not sell normal Pepsi. I was happy with this alone, but when I drank it, it actually tasted a lot better than normal Pepsi.



I ordered a mac cheese for my dinner and it was the best mac cheese I’ve had whilst eating out. They also checked I knew where the cutlery was, and menu.



Meal was a good price, the drink I found a little pricy for what it is but overall I was happy with the customer service I received today.

Celebrated my 30th birthday at the Wave Maiden on 10th Dec '16 & it was quite simply brilliant! The venue was great, food / catering extremely yummy & fab drinks selection. The team were awesome & did everything to make the evening as special as possible & run as smoothly as could be.

All my guests commented on how great the food was, that the venue was brilliant & how good it was going somewhere where the team know their products & are passionate about what they do!

Can't praise enough! Thanks once more to everyone at the Wave Maiden!

Great service, lovey owner. I really liked the decorations in this lovely pub and the menu for Vegans was amazing...I even had a Vegan pudding �. I will definitely be back to try some more of their superb food and drink ����

As a Kansas City native I pride myself on knowing good pulled pork and, DAMN, this place did not disappoint. I tried both the pulled pork sandwich and the Mac Daddy and I'm already planning my next trip to the coast just to eat here again. The atmosphere is cozy and you could socialise here comfortably for hours, there is also an impressive community table upstairs, which can accommodate large parties - a rarity for proper pubs! Can't wait to go back! x
