About Toby Carvery

Here at Toby Carvery Hilsea, we believe there's only one way to do our beloved British roast – and that's properly.

Toby Carvery Description

When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings – including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. So it's no wonder we're Hampshire's favourite carvery restaurant.

Had an excellent experience at this Toby carvery recently when I visited with my partner. It was very busy and the staff worked very hard to make sure everyone was served and tables were cleared as quick as possible!

User

Had a lovely meal and every time i chose the toby for a sunday roast theyve never let me down, the friendly staff are always helpful.

User

Another great meal although I do not like mac and cheese it was nice to see this on offer as well broccoli. Great now you have 5 meats as lamb is a favourite with us.

User

Went for first time, all the staff were very friendly and helpful server Ian was good, drinks came within good time and so did the kid's pasta meal, first place we've been to that supply small cutlery so top marks there, food was good value for the money just some veg a little hard. And the kid's ice-cream was a great hit with my 2 toddler's.

User

Took my wife for a carvery on valentines day and I can say we really enjoyed our experience, the staff were helpful and friendly the food was very nice there was a wide choice the meat was cooked to perfection plenty of vegetables, overall the food was kept hot my only criticism is the pork crackling was too hard For the price I think it's very good value.

User

Good breakfasts all of it was hot and no trouble all waiting around getting your food at the counter. So we were very pleased.

User

When at the front cue and ordered the meat I wanted beef the chef looked at the meat on the board saw it was just pure fat went and asked for another one but after him waiting a min he got annoyed he was waiting gave me this bit of fat no meat what so ever. The veg was dry. Normal have a great visit but this time just wasn’t up to standard very disappointed

User

Staff brilliant. Welcoming and very helpful. However, delightful feast collected on my plate looked wonderful but was either tepid or cold so only able to eat less than half before it became totally cold. That was so disappointing as so much looked and initially tasted great. Only suggestion is that you keep an eye on the temperature of your food being served. Children might like tepid food...... our waiter offered to get me another plate but no point as that would have been the same. Shame for him too as he on,y wanted to help.

User

Booked table for 3 at 6pm, on arrival was shown to table straight away, introduced to waiter, took drinks order, went up for roast, when we got back drinks were on table, good service there, meat was lovely and tender but most of the veg was lukewarm, lady next to us asked for a straw and was told they don't supply them anymore to help environment, brilliant, hope others follow, why do grown ups need them anyway, so decided to have desert, treacle sponge and ice-cream, and oh no, ice cream served in plastic tub, I do hope it's recycling, oh why not use ceramic ramekins, maybe a little more expensive but you can reuse them time and time again, probably be a little while before going back, please get the vegetables a lot hotter.

Hi, my mum & dad come weekly for dinner, they are very disappointed that when our dad went to pay and use his blue light card (nhs discount) to be refused, very rudely by the girl behind bar. He was told that he would need a voucher? There is no need for a voucher as you have to purchase the card? This has never been an issue before. He goes to many food outlets that accept the discount as well as your umbrella chain (Mitchell & butler).

Hope this issue gets resolved or give your staff the right advice to give to customers.

Thanks

First and last time we will be coming for breakfast here. One toaster which took about 15 minutes for a slice of toast , a tiny bowl of ketch up which was always empty and no hash browns.

User

Went today for breakfast and both waitresses had an attitude on them. Once paying for breakfast rushing us through (it was 10:30) and then again as another was clearing away the plates. No plates and limited bowls filled up for the carvery and you could hear laughing and joking in the kitchen as we asked for more plates. A disabled couple came in 10 minutes before closing and were asked several times whether they would be able to eat their breakfast within 10 minutes or if not were advised not to bother. Absolutely disgusting service which is a shame as past waitresses have been super.

User

Went there yesterday, was told it was a 45min wait which was actually a hour to be seated. Then joined what looked like the que for a ride at Thorpe Park. 20 mins later actually got our food, which I couldn’t complain about. Sat there eating and a waitress with white blonde dodgy hair was having a argument with a waiter about something, threw a screw up receipt at him which missed him and hit my friend. No apology from said angry waitress, in fact the waiter apologised on her behalf. She defo needs anger management so all in all not a great experience and I won’t be going back anytime soon

User

The worst Toby I've ever had in all the years going to their carveries disappointed just doesn't cover it the potatoes were either burnt or under cooked the vegetables were absolutely disgusting the turkey was dry and the beef was fatty and chewy and they had the nerve to put the price up which is an utter piss take I don't see McDonald's putting prices up at Easter shame on you Toby carvery shame on you

User

I’ve been many times and it was great but don’t touch! Disgusted with the service, manners and attitude of staff! Been before never been like this!
