United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Association Ukta Description

We are the United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Association. (UKTA)
Our Association is the Original Taekwon-Do organisation in the United Kingdom, having been formed in 1967 when Taekwon-Do was brought to the United Kingdom by (then) Mr Rhee Ki Ha 5th Degree Black Belt.
Mr Rhee had been teaching Taekwon-Do to British servicemen at RAF Changi, who on their return home to the UK, invited Rhee Ki Ha to teach them in the UK.
He arrived on 2 July 1967 reportedly only planning to stay for two years. This was the birth of UK Taekwon-Do as the UKTA was founded, planting the Taekwon-Do seed on these shores.
Mr Rhee became Master Rhee when he was promoted to 7th Dan in 1974, followed by 8th Dan in 1981.
The Founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi thereafter made TKD history by promoting Master Rhee to 9th Degree Grandmaster on 2nd July 1997 at the ITF Congress in Russia, the First person in the World to be awarded the rank by the Founder.
Grandmaster Rhee was the President of the UKTA from 1975 until he stepped down in 2010.
The current President of the UKTA is Senior Master John Williamson.
We are proud to be long standing members of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) and founder members of the British Tae Kwon-Do Council (BTC).

On the 11th April 1955 General Choi Hong Hi gave the world the name Taekwon-Do.
At last weekend’s UKTA National Seminar, the participants performed Dan Gun tul to celebrate the Anniversary of Taekwon-Do’s birthday.
Today we take a moment to remember our founder and the gift he gave to us all.
