Untamed Borders

About Untamed Borders

Untamed Borders offers bespoke trips and small group tours to some of the world’s most interesting and inaccessible places.

Untamed Borders Description

Founded by a group of fixers that worked for journalists in the Afghan /Pakistan border area Untamed Borders uses specialist local guides to allow access to some of Asia's harder to reach places. In the past few years we have taken our guests skiing in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan, arranged meetings with retired headhunters in Nagaland on the Indian /Mynamar border and stayed with descendants of both Alexander the Great and Genghis Khans armies in Central Asia.

"Located in southeastern Ethiopia, 400km from Addis Ababa, the Bale Mountains are a landscape created by volcanic fires and shaped by glacial ice." https://africageographic.com/…/trekking -beautiful-bale-mou…/

We recently heard about a children's book of fairy tales from Central Asia, written by Marina Abrams and illustrated by Farrukh Negmatzade, a contemporary artist from Tajikistan. They have a Kickstarter campaign to launch the second English edition of the book, so if you're keen to support, please check them out!

This year we are running packages to the Erbil Marathon for the first time. Our travel package will run from 22nd - 27th October 2018 with the marathon itself taking place on 26th October. We will meet you at Erbil airport and show you the places of interest in the Iraqi Kurdistan capital. We will also head out of Erbil to visit Lalish, the spiritual home of the Yazidi people and go training with female runners breaking taboos in Iraq, giving you a taste of life in Northern Iraq. There are three distances (5km, 10km and full marathon) so even if you are not a strong runner you can take part and enjoy the event and the famous Kurdish hospitality. The full itinerary is on our website: https://www.untamedborders.com/erbil-mara thon/ If you wish to join or have any questions drop us an email: info@untamedborders.com

"The high latitudes, harsh climate, the very simply way of life, and the almost complete absence of cell phone or internet connection at times can bring even complete opposites together. This is a place where trust is expected." https://arctic.ru/analitic/20180320/72736 6.html
