Last week was the Congress of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and incase you missed it, Richard was missing from practice on Friday and here is why....
West Bar Veterinary Hospital is recognised by the RCVS ( the veterinary regulator for the UK ) as having one of the best clinical audit systems in general practice. Richard was invited by RCVS to speak on ways of improving patient care and client service in veterinary practice at the 2019 annual Congress of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association. Speaking to an audience of veterinary professionals Richard shared the ways in which we do this at West Bar Veterinary Hospital.

Here is a shout out to our vet Anna, who last week completed the Mean Bean Challenge WELL DONE ANNA.
If anyone missed the previous post, Anna was to eat a basic diet of small amounts of porridge, rice and plain beans with only water to drink for 5 days to raise awareness and much needed funding for the Tearfund, who help against hunger and poverty”
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, if anyone still would like to donate the link is below https://www.justgiving.com/fundr…/annas meanbeanchallenge2019

Today we were treated to a visit off these two little ones, Penelope and Lexi. They appear to be taking it in shifts to nap to ensure owners are kept on toes at all time.

Proud pet parent:
The owner of these beautiful cats, wants to share with us why these cats make her proud.
"Buttons (b&w) came to BARKS pregnant and had 4 kittens - she was a stray being fed by students. Around the same time Flo came in with 2 kittens. They are both great characters, Buttons loves bags and boxes. Buttons also fills the house with leaves, twigs and gardening gloves 🙂 Buttons is only just over a year we think and Flo around 4 1/2 years old. They are helping... Boron come to terms with the loss of his previous cat companions Izzy and Bodmin"
It lovely to meet the two of them and it sounds like they have adjusted well from the lives of strays to much loved family pets. They deserve this mention in the proud pet parents feature.

Proud pet parents: Here is a dog, who through her actions and achievements the owner has described as "a life transformer". Here is what the owner wanted to say about Harmony:
"Harmony is 10 and Half. We have had Harmony for 8 years and she is Eddie’s Autism Assistance dog and will be retiring by the summer. She will remain our pet, but I would like to recognise the work she has done to help my son! He is now a lovely young man who is able to attempt things I never though he... would! Thank you Harmony for all your work and support for the whole family....you are our angel in disguise!"
Well done Harmony, amazing work.

Morning All. As pet theft awareness week starts today. Here is just a small poster with a few facts regarding pet theft. Please keep your beloved pets safe and please share in hope to prevent as many pet thefts as possible.

User

Our first proud pet parent is Jennifer. This is Cassie, she was adopted in 2010 from the Blue Cross. She is a collie x bloodhound and celebrates her 10th Birthday in September. Look how happy she is. Clearly one very happily adopted pup.

User

As it was Crufts last week and watching the achievements of the dogs and owners, I think we should celebrate our own pets achievements this week. So please feel free to send us some of your pets achievements, small or large, like graduating from puppy training, a big birthday, a newly adopted pet adjusting to a new home, maybe a pet trying to drop some weight, anything really that you class as an achievement for your pet or makes you proud to be a pet parent, we'd love to hear about it along with a picture of your pet.

User

Well, it’s official. Bella and DM - Mr and Mrs Dangermouse - are going to be FurParents.

Just got back from seeing lovely Richard at West Bar Vets Banbury and our Bella is “heavily pregnant’. It was a planned “marriage” between her and the boy next door, but we wanted to make sure that all was well. It is! It could be a matter of just two weeks now!! Great care and advice...

#FurBabyLife is about to get even more interesting!

Unfortunately our visit to West Bar Vets was an Emergency while away for the weekend. The vet on call was very nice and requested we leave our dog overnight so she could have x rays the next day which was a Saturday. Unfortunately it was sad news the vet who gave the sad call and the receptionist were very kind and sympathetic. We also received a card off the vet today expressing her sympathy regarding the loss of our beloved dog even though they had never met her before. Thank you for showing how much you care for both animal and owners, something you don't see at every vets and we had some comfort knowing she was in the right hands at the end.

User

Unfortunately our 1st time appointment at the Woodford halse vets yesterday. And our beloved cat Harvey was just too ill and we had to put him to sleep. This ordeal was made bareable by the lovely vet and receptionist who were so lovely and caring. Thank you so much for the kindness and sympathy you showed us xxxx

User

Took my mum's dog as a new patient today. Every one of the team is cheerful, polite and professional. They put you and your pet at ease. Jeeves is already feeling better!

User

The team at West Bar were with me every step of the way after losing my old boy Claude, now they've helped me welcome Bozwell the pup into our family with the best help, advice and his first care package. Thanks guys.

User

Thank you so much to Hannah and all of the West Bar Staff to looking after Jasper when he became unwell last week; sadly nothing more could be done and he had to be put to sleep but I know everything that could have be done for him was. And Thank you also for being so kind to me whilst I am obviously so heartbroken. I really appreciated receiving a card today and a paw print of my little man's in the post, it means the world to me! Thank you for everything, me and Jasper couldn't have wished for better care and support

User

Superb quick reaction to our Westies collapse, can't praise Eleanor the Vet and the Nurse for dropping everything to help out. If you need an animal checked out, West Bar is the place to go

User

Nothing too much trouble for the wonderful staff at West Bar. Slightly unusual situation for us as we chose to have our goldfish put to sleep. Strange as it sounds, the little chap had character and we couldn't face the more common conventional methods. Emma, Hannah and Maisie were all wonderfully compassionate and professional. What a fantastic service. I would highly recommend this business

User

My beautiful Astra was very poorly through the night I took her down to the vets without an appointment and Linda on reception was lovely I was seen by Sophie who was wonderful with Astra,

Astra had to be admitted for the day to have test done bless her but the West bar team was amazing I called in and spoke to Emma who checked in on Astra for me.

This is such a wonderful practice I never worry about the care my girl receives I always know it’s the best,

Thank you all so much xx

User

Just picked up Wilson my blue and gold macaw who goes in for extensive beak trimming annually under local anithestic, I travel 2.5hrs to this vets as I know Clive's has vast knowledge and expertise and is the only person I trust with him.i would recommend any avian owner with problems to speak to Clive, I've been using him for years now. I'm so pleased yet again with the results and just want people to know that if your bird has a problem give west bar a ring, friendly staff great facilities10/10 well worth the trip from Coventry.Merry Christmas every one

User

I would recommend them to anyone they care so much about the animals & go all out to do their best for them. Also they care about the pets owners & treat them as if they are friends. They cared for my cat so well & am so greatfull to them Thank you.

User

I would like to thank all the staff especially Hannah for the kindness ,consideration and swift action when I brought my boy Charlie in after he had swallowed a chicken satay (stick included). He was operated on within a very short space of time and it was retrieved still all in one piece, how he managed to swallow it I have no idea but thanks to the team at West Bar he is now at home recovering.

Thank you all again.

User

I would like to thank all the staff especially David Sheperd for all the kindness and consideration show to me and my dog Millie this week it had to be one of the hardest day of my life having to say goodbye to her you were all so nice . I received a card today which made me emotional but it just shows how much you all care and I thank you so very much for thinking of us xx

User

I recently took my two cats Schmidt and Hildi to see Sophie and she was nothing short of caring and attentive. Schmidt who is usually terrified of veterinary surgeries was calm and happy. Hildi who has only recently joined my family was very skittish, but Sophie handled her well and I felt confident with her abilities.

Also for once I was actually listened to. I have been to see other vets in the local Banbury area and I always felt like I could never get my concerns across without being ignored. West Bar has friendly staff, great advice and a calm atmosphere.

It's also affordable. Two checkups, two blood tests, two flea/worming treatments and a plug-in feliway only came to just over £200.

Definitely the best vets in the Banburyshire area.

User

I lost my dog last year and my vets is mansion hill but West bar was the emergency call out that evening. I phoned that evening and because I couldn't move fudge Sophie and a nurse came to us in brackley she kept in contact with a few texts to say she's on her way. Sadly on referral to Solihull the next day fudge had to be put to sleep because she had cancer and had spread. I had a lovely text back from Sophie and a card. God forbid if any of my animals became poorly again and I have to use West bar again I know they are in safe hands.

User

I don't really believe in veterinary practice ratings as a whole since vet skill and their respective "bedside manners" vary so much from one vet to the next.

Sophie is however an exceptional vet. She has dealt with my many pets for 6 years + and has always done an exceptional job, taking time out to explain everything to me, and genuinely cares for animals deeply. As good as you will ever find, anywhere.

The support staff and nurses have always been fabulous and very caring too.

Like an earlier post, I moved to West Bar because I'd found other local vets glib and aloof, in much the same was that some doctors are if you question the diagnosis.

I'd recommend them strongly.

User

Harry, my beautiful ginger cat and companion to me for 16 years is staying there for a while and is so loved and cared for by the staff.

Sophie and Hannah are amazing with us both and have helped us through a difficult time when me and my boy can't be together

He's been there several weeks and I absolutely feel he is in safe hands and I feel welcome when I visit every day at least once .

The nurses and receptionists are fab too.

West Bar Vets understand the bond between me and my boy I can't thank them enough for their help during a difficult time for me and harry.

User

Fantastic care of Stanley my little bunny. Routine castration and I had a calm and happy boy home the next day. Far less stressful than my other buns had elsewhere, and no crying with pain at all. Highly recommend the team.

User

A special thank you to West Bar vets. I have always found them to be very professional and helpful through good times and sad times. I would like to thank Clive who has been looking after our poorly German Shepherd. Thanks to him and his staff our boy is back to normal. Would highly recommend this wonderful practice.
