West Wittering Beach Description

Offering wonderful views of Chichester Harbour and the South Downs beyond, the natural and unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering has been a favourite destination for a family day out for generations. The highest water quality and excellent facilities have made it one of the premier Blue Flag beaches in the country.

The extensive acres of neatly mown grass close to the beach are perfect for parking, and picnics. The sea is popular with wind and kite surfers, while shallow lagoons are left on extensive sandy flats at low tide. The whole area is internationally recognised for its wildlife, birds and unique beauty.

Our trained and dedicated staff endeavour to maintain and protect this special environment, and to provide a warm welcome to all our visitors whether here for a carefree traditional bucket and spade day in summer, or a brisk winter walk.

Fantastic training evening with South East Coast Ambulance Service, Hazardous Area Response Team, Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team and West Wittering Beach Lifeguards.
It was an amazing opportunity for the Lifeguards to practice scenarios and work together with emergency services to get the best response possible! @ West Wittering Beach

Low tide is at 11:59 today
Please be aware of incoming tides - you can become cut off on sandbars you may have walked out to. Remember to swim between the red and yellow flags and listen to the lifeguards advice

Over 80% of litter in the sea comes from the land.
Our staff have worked late all weekend to ensure the beach and estate are clear of rubbish. Please help us to keep the beach clean and be responsible for your rubbish - remember to put your litter in the bins provided! @ West Wittering Beach

The car park will be free to enter from 9-11. Meet us outside the café where we will provide bags and gloves and give you a voucher for a tea or coffee! Any questions please get in touch!

Went on bank holiday Monday left early its was an amazing day beautiful beach gorgeous hot weather really didn't want to leave

User

We loved it here today .. £8.50 to park all day , I don't think that's bad at all .. Beautiful sandy beach with shallow water which is great for kids .. Just be mindful and considerate to our world and others .. TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME !!!

User

We love this beach just a shame those that visit can’t put rubbish in a bin or take it home with them. The state of the beach and car park yesterday at 7pm resembled a small landfill site. Our small children 6 & 7 were horrified to see the mess left behind.

It’s not hard to see why our sea water and beaches are in such a mess when people have little care. We also had to put a fire out in one of the huge bins in the car park because some idiot put a bbq which was clearly hot still in the bin. There are plenty of taps it wouldn’t of took long to put water on the bbq and let it cool before disposing it. I guess common sense and respect of places is to much to ask when the sun is out.

Please it your visiting the beach take your rubbish home or at least used the many bins in the car park that are provided.

User

Thank you to the life guides and all working on the West Wittering Beach/ Estate. We arrived this morning at 8.30 am and left at 3pm. What a great day. Beach was clean, beach goers all friendly and staff and life guides brilliant! One of my favourite places to visit!!!

User

First visit with the dogs and will definitely come back. Love the fact dogs are separated as means we weren’t scanning for picnics and ball games. Wonderful place with great facilities the muffins in the cafe were also 5*

User

Clean white sandy beach that spreads as far as the eye can see. Clear waters to swim in and lifeguards on duty. Ample parking and well managed cafe. An amazing find! Will defiantly be returning

User

Amazing beach perfect for doggies

parts of it all year round!

Awesome sand dunes.

plenty of parking (although £7)

Cafe was nice burger bar was way to expensive for food quality

Plenty of taps along the car park road to get dogs water.

Overall amazing my new fav doggy day out place

User

A lovely beach. Parking is very expensive and some of the grounds are in need of renovation. Come on WW Estates, reinvest some of the parking charges and make some improvements.

User

What a lovely beech. So sandy and the kids loved it. Only down fall was the chips (french fries) 1st lot had to go back because they were cold and 2nd lot were hot but half cooked, for the price id expect much better quality.

User

So. Went yesterday

The gridlock is not sustainable.

There needs to be some system from the A27 like operation stack on the M2. Leaving the site yesterday took 1h30 minutes from East Head to A259. The exits need to be barriered to stop cars driving through car park camping pitches. Several police incidents yesterday. Other than that, the facilities are adequate but hard to cope with the demand (understandable in the circumstances).

Seems very over developed over the years. More drink kiosks should be open and monitoring of bbq dumping in the recycling.

Still a great day out, but need to be prepared for LoNG delays. Its affecting other local businesses.

User

It was ok, nothing there to do but there is a little cafe and l mean little and a burger bar. We had to pay £8.50 to park and only stayed an hour, don’t bother if your not planning to sit on the beach all day.

User

DO NOT try & get to the carpark via East Wittering as the road is gridlocked & there is no advantage. All you will do is completely jam up the road so no emergency vehicles can get through. DO NOT park on the pavements as they will be ticketed after what happened last year & DO NOT park on any private estates. DO NOT double park as if this is deemed as blocking the road the vehicles WILL be towed away. Just be considerate.

User

The beach is a stunning beach however the whole area is gridlocked, you Queue for hours to get In, cars are just being dumped anywhere and everywhere making roads difficult to get through ! Emergency services won’t stand a chance getting through to anyone to save a life, the beach need to sort it out, maybe a pay in exit would be better idea !

User

Yesterday was a nightmare total gridlock on the A27 once you were in the queue there was no way of getting out or any signage as to how long you were likely to be. It took over an hour to get out of the car park and this was at 7.00 pm. Rubbish everywhere and cars abandoned all over the village. Loud music and one man even smoking an enormous bong. Emergency services wouldn't have stood a chance. Numbers really need to be restricted. I'm sorry this is my favourite beach out of season but never ever again in the summer.

User

This place causes us local a nightmare every time the sun shines the roads get gridlocked the emergency services cannot get in the traffic backs up the a27 the owners of this place put nothing back into the local community , the whole set up should be changed , they need to do a park and ride from Chichester have signs up on a27 giving details on traffic because once you turn towards wittering you’ve had it , hours in traffic , 10 o clock tonight and there still queuing to get out , cars racing around the back roads it total mayhem I can drive to Dorset faster than it takes to get from Chichester to wittering so why bother drive all this way and sit in a jam for 3 hours in and 3 hours out ! Go enjoy yourselves somewhere else

User

If your thinking of visiting witterings beach don't bother ..hours spent in a hot car just trying to get to the beach...local residents have had problems just getting about because of the traffic problems and traffic jams... One guy who was working in the next village spent almost 4 hours just traveling 3 miles to get home to wittering today... You need to think about the traffic problems this has caused... The traffic was backed up to stockbridge roundabout all day long its not only the local residents that have to suffer ... And now the traffic is solid going back into Chichester .... Its a right mess that needs to be sorted out... If you can't sort your traffic problems out for beach traffic then you should close the beach end of.... Why do us residents have to suffer because of your beach and carpark... This needs bringing up at the next local council meeting because its a ongoing thing ... Even the emergency services have had problems getting around because of the traffic problems caused today through people heading to the beach .... What happens when someone dies because emergency services could not get through... How would you feel then ..it would be all your fault witterings beach.... Think you need to think about the bigger picture ..even Chichester was as a stand still today because if this problem ..traffic at a stand still in both directions in the A27 which has caused total chaos ... Its just not good ..

User

If you want to spend hours and hours getting into the place and the same getting out then go for it and the toilets are disgusting and you have to wait about half hour in the queue

User

Headed to the beach on Sunday 6th May, just for a one hour evening walk with our dogs. Wish we had never bothered.

An hour queuing to get in (& once in the queue we were stuck in it, & could not turn around to go elsewhere).

At one point an ambulance was struggling to access the stupidly narrow entrance road. Took it ages to get past all the vehicles.

Once there the ticket machines were charging £6 (even though the website via Google link on both mobiles still showed £3 after 5pm).

We queued for well over an hour to get off the estate.

I have NEVER seen so many vehicles on the estate at that time of evening. If there had been warning signs just after the A27 of what to expect, we would have been able to reroute and gone elsewhere!

Why aren't the estate owners less money-grabbing?

They could limit the number who can park (aswell as updating their website properly and not just upping the price because it was a nice weekend).

Just greedy.

We will be going elsewhere in future. Not that the owners will be bothered - I did message them, but got no reply.

(Incidently, when I tapped 'West Wittering Beach Parking Charges 2018 into the Google link on my mobile just now, it still directed me to their website page showing £3 high season after 5pm at weekends).
