Whitfield's General Store opened in June 2015, reopening the doors to Greatham's much loved and historic village shop, which has been at the heart of village life since around 1910.
Priding ourselves on good old fashioned friendly customer service, you are sure to find a warm welcome in store.
We stock all of your everyday essentials, from beer to birthday cards, nappies to wallpaper paste, seasonal goods, and of course, SWEETS! .
PLUS we receive delivery of freshly baked bread, pies and teacakes Monday to Saturday. Our own range of fresh, delicious sandwiches and salads made to order on the premises are ideal if you need to grab lunch on the go. Why not ring ahead to order and collect during your lunch break?.
Our selection of fresh cakes varies from week to week, from Victoria Sandwich to Red Velvet, granola bars to locally made Gluten Free Tarts, and continues to grow in popularity.

This is an announcement from a local farm regarding a case of equine flu in the area. If you are walking in and around the farms and fields, please help to minimise the spread of this disease by not touching any horses or ponies.
"Hello please can anyone who may be walking, passing by our farm Field house farm in Greatham. Please do not touch any horses on our grazing land I know a lot of passers by are fond of giving them a stroke now and again.... A local farm to us has had a case of Equine Flu confirmed so would just appreciate us being kept isolated also until the horse is better and the virus has passed. Just trying to do our little bit to help everyone!"

So I happened to be in Morrisons the other day and saw this sign. They are now offering the same Derwent Valley eggs that we sell, at the *same price* 😲 that we sell them (ours are £1.20 for 6) and reminding us to shop local. Our Derwent Valley eggs are delivered every Friday and we sell them in plain packaging to keep the prices as low as we can. They've been at this price for a few years now so it's good to know our prices are competetive!
