Wickham With Rhythm - 40S, 50S Jive, Swing, Rock N Roll

It is with great regret that I have to announce the cancellation of the Christmas party on the 16th December.
Although many people who attended the last Wickham with Rhythm informed me that they had a great time, praising all the attention to detail and the quality of the music played – something that was evidenced in a dancefloor that was packed all night - the attendance figure was very low and I took a big hit financially.
The significance of the financial problem is coup...led with other outlays: one and a half days of work to set up the event plus the 6 hours it takes to pack up. I do this alone throughout the night, typically leaving Wickham Centre at 6 a.m!
I have always promised myself and family that if I began to lose money on the event then I would not continue. For all events over the past two years, at best I’ve only ever managed to break even.
The unique aspects of WWR – the video projections, the light show and the decorated tables are all part of the event – and not something I would change. Neither have I ever considered raising the ticket price; it’s an important community occasion and I wouldn’t want to preclude families or people unable to afford the higher prices, the sort of prices that are typically charged for such dance nights.
Low numbers can be explained by similar events clashing or seasonal activities (Bonfire Night, Halloween parties, etc) but as I only run these events every two months it’s not unfair to expect them to be well attended, particularly when many people specifically requested that I run a Halloween event.
I’m sure you understand that it’s not conducive to carrying on when I bear a considerable financial loss together with the amount of time and effort it takes to set up and pack away.
With regard to cancellations, all ticket payments will be refunded in the next three days – I think that amounts to about 9 or 10 tickets sold for December.
I’ll leave this for now and let you know in the future if I ever decide to resurrect WWR. In the meantime, I hope to see you around on the dance circuit.
