About Wight Trash

Wight Trash was officially started in 2004 by skateboarder John Cattle. All things skate related available online and in store.

Wight Trash Description

Wight Trash is a skateboard company based on the Isle of Wight. Started (officially) in 2004, 'Wight Trash' was actually created a long time before that as a phrase, my friends and I would call each other.
Logo T-shirts were made first, and sold to friends and family, from then I created hoodies and skateboards too.
I am constantly inspired by skateboarding, the creativity and imagination and the people. This along with the little island where I live, is the influence to many of the designs and the stories behind the products.
Quality is important, with everything produced in the UK, and where possible local to the island. We are a serious business but don't take ourselves too seriously!
We have a rag tag kickass team of misfits using and testing out all this good stuff. The team comprises of friends both old and new based around the Uk and further afield. They are skating hard, being freakish, and generally keeping the dream alive!

I have been really lucky to have 2 of my skateboarding heroes involved with us as guest riders. First was Alex Moul and then Kris Markovich. There are hopes to add to this in 2015 with another one of my all time biggest influences throughout the 80's and early 90's, so stay posted for more news on that.

Over the 10 years I have been lucky to be able to do what I love. We have held a number of events, assisted with developing and continuing to improve the skate provisions on the island, and start up a skate school.
2014 saw the opening of Wight Trash World, my own skate shop. A hub for the island skating community, as well as the place to get advice, talk skating and buy awesome stuff.
2014 has been a crazy, manic but totally rad year, I'm really excited for the future. We have some bigger events and competitions planned, new deck releases, more clothing designs, the release of the long awaited 'Yeah Wight' DVD, and I look forward to seeing the up and coming skaters doing their thing too.

Thanks for all the support, Highest of 5s to you

Crap weather is a good reminder to stock up on DVDs, because if you can't skate, the next best thing is watching great skating! We've been tagged in a few throw back clips that are featured on Viewfinder so a reminder we have just a handful of the #Viewfinder DVD boxsets left. That's all 4 original videos, plus unseen extras, PLUS we'll throw in Viewfinder 5. Β£23 includes postage. DM us if you need one, as once they're gone, they're gone πŸ‘πŸ»

Weather is due to be crap again tomorrow. If you're looking for somewhere to skate then our indoor is open. Spread the word if you're on the island. Limited places so get booked in under Saturday sessions. Book an hour, or 2! www.bookwhen.com/skateclub

Belle is celebrating her 12th Birthday today. She comes to skate club and so it's a perfect time for a first custom set up. She chose (the very last) JC Dino deck and wanted to get some unique grip art. If you didn't know what a Goomba was... You do now. It seems she's pretty happy with it. Happy Birthday Belle, have a rad day. See you for a skate soon πŸ‘πŸ»

No tricks for Thomas today, just the treat of his first board, pads and helmet, so when he starts his skate lessons with us back at school next week, he's all ready to go πŸ‘ŒπŸ» The shop is open Thur/Fri/Sat 10.30am-6pm DON'T FORGET, we're still taking orders for Christmas, on the payment scheme. Choose what you want and pay in instalments that suit you, between now and Dec. We can post out too, so if your not on the island, no problem... Just DM us or call the shop 01983 717077.

Chris is over on holiday, he came into see us a few months back to get a set up for his 6 year old. He explained he still had his first skateboard, that his son had been using. We suggested he might want to check out if its worth anything. Today he bought it in! A completely original G&S Neil Blender deck, Indys, Toxic Wheels. Bought 30 years ago, second hand from Southsea Skatepark In really good condition too. He's now retiring the deck to the wall, and has sorted himself out a Wight Trash board to roll around on!

New Mark Suciu decks in from Habitat Skateboards. If you haven't seen his new section then I highly recommend checking it out. Easily one of the best video sections of all time! http://www.thrashermagazine.com/…/…/m ark-suciu-s-verso-part…

Had a few people in the shop this morning asking about our lessons. Sessions run as normal throughout the school holiday this half term. So if you are on the island and want to learn , or improve, then get booked in. All equipment provided for free if you need it. Tuesday and Friday evenings 7-8pm are adult shred sessions, so if you simply want somewhere to get a skate in then come along to those. www.bookwhen.com/skateclub

PUBLIC SERVICE POST. It's getting to that time of the year when people are looking at buying skateboards for Christmas. We have said this every year - PLEASE DON'T buy cheap set ups online, from toy shops, etc. In the words of Consolidated DON'T DO IT! Head to a specialist skate shop and get some advice. If you don't have a shop near you then contact one of the indy skater owned stores, they'll be happy to help and most can post out stuff direct to you.
... Every January, we get people in who have bought something that they then want fixing. Most common issues... NO.1 - It doesn't turn NO.2 - The wheels don't seem to really go around NO.3 - Bearings have popped out Good skate shops will hold a stock of entry level decks, which although at a cheaper price point, you will get a decent set up for your money. We have completes from Β£40, which we know are good enough to get your kids skating, and will do them for a long while - we know this because we teach hundreds of kids every week, many who start on these.
We want kids to get skating, poorly made boards, make kids think they can't. So come in or contact us online, we can tell you all the options for your budget. Buy Trash not Rubbish!

Well it may have been raining for the last 4 days solid but that hasn't stopped people getting themselves sorted with new set ups. Here's an example of a couple of beauts. The Lucy Adams, Love N Skate kingfisher deck, for a young skater, and a super nice OG Death skull deck, with Venture trucks and Death wheels. Thanks also to everyone getting their Christmas sorted with the saver scheme. There's already plenty of very lucky people who will be finding skateboards under their tree this year! The shop is open Mon/Thur/Fri/Sat 10.30-6pm πŸ‘πŸ»
