Armed Forces Day Saturday 29 June
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
... The Armed Forces are a big part of our community in Hampshire, which is home to over 20,000 serving members, as well as the largest concentration of veterans in the UK.
On Monday 24 June there will be a flag raising event in Winchester to mark the start of Armed Forces Week. This is an annual event. Personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will be taking part in the ceremony, which will culminate in the raising of the Armed Forces Flag outside the Great Hall. The flag will be flown until sunset on Sunday 30 June. This is a public event and you are invited to assemble outside the Great Hall in Winchester from 12.30pm before the ceremony starts at 12.45pm.
There are a number of events in our area throughout the week so do check out the official website www.armedforcesday.org.uk
And don’t forget to come and look at our military books too!!

This is a free drop in event. Local Historian Jane Hurst and Library Staff will be on hand to talk about the collection and provide additional information ...on the author and the local area.
We look forward to welcoming you

As an antidote to this rather unseasonal weather, why not come down to the library and admire some of the wonderful work created by members of our Loopy Loopers crochet group?
The Loopy Loopers are a friendly group & welcome crafters of all abilities. They meet between 1-3pm on the first and third Monday of the month (next meeting on the 17th June).
We also have our lovely Craft & Chat group who meet on the second Thursday of the month between 10-12 noon (next meeting 13th Ju...ne).
No need to book, just come along for a chat and a cuppa and get creative!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to celebrate Elmer’s 30th birthday this afternoon. There were some lovely stories & beautiful patchwork elephants on display!
Let’s hope Elmer had a great birthday!
You can still pop in to take part in our little Elmer treasure hunt in the Children’s Library, but don’t forget we are closed on Bank Holiday Monday 😀

People of earth, your attention please.
Bring out your Vogon poetry, stick out your thumb & most importantly, don’t forget your towel! Yes it is #towelday today, celebrating that hoopy frood Douglas Adams, creator (amongst other things) of that intergalactic bestseller the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
But Don’t Panic, just pop in & check out some of the books we have to offer. Unfortunately, all our Vogon poetry books are restricted access only 😀

Don’t forget our Elmer drop in event on Saturday 25 May. We look forward to seeing you all!
