Check out these stunning photos taken by Asda lorry driver Ian on his journeys delivering food to our stores across Northern Ireland.
Ian’s hobby as a keen photographer is a perfect match for a job that takes him through some of the most picturesque scenery in the world. Ian said he took this picture when he saw the sky “just explode with colour” while he was taking a rest break in a lay-by. His manager Stephen says everyone in the transport team at Larne love seeing his pictures. Stephen said lorry drivers like Ian were supermarkets’ unsung heroes. “Customers don’t often see our drivers as they come in and out through the back door, but they do such a great job, making sure the store and the customers get the goods they need on time.” Read more: http://bit.ly/2wKjQpG

Colleagues at our stores are getting behind England and Scotland ahead of their match in the Women’s World Cup this weekend.
Eight of the England squad play for Manchester City, whose ground is next to the Eastlands store. To show their support, colleagues made pizzas in the shape of the St George’s cross, as well as hanging up bunting and balloons. Ruth from the store said: "We just want to do our bit to celebrate and support our team in the World Cup." Michelle, manager of our Govan store, added: “There are blue and white balloons across the store and colleagues have been wearing Scotland flags. We are all doing our bit to support the team. We all hope they do well." Read more:http://bit.ly/2MAlULN

Katy and Jacqui from our Havant and Waterlooville stores have been helping to look after some of the veterans of D-Day as they return to Portsmouth to mark the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
The community champions regularly volunteer with Project 71, a charity that supports local war veterans, and as part of this week's commemorations they escorted former US Army radio operator Greg Melikian and RAF gunner Ron Nolan to a special dinner at Southwick House, where B...ritish and American commanders planned D-Day in 1944. Tomorrow they’ll be helping veterans at a remembrance service at the D-Day Stone on Southsea Common. At the age of 20, Greg was chosen by General Eisenhower to transmit the message telling the allied forces the Germans had surrendered and the war was over. Katy said: “It was a real pinch yourself moment to find yourself with such incredible people who've given so much for us. Greg tapped out the morse code message on my arm as we were walking in and I got goosebumps as I thought, 'Wow – this is such a special moment!’” Read more: http://bit.ly/2MvRY3p

We were really proud to welcome the wonderful team from the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers - REME based at RAF Lyneham into our Swindon Haydon store. Ahead of the 75th anniversary of D-Day they set up rowing machines at the store to cover the equivalent of the distance from Portsmouth to Normandy.
The store's community champion Jane said: "They started at 9am and covered a distance of 217 kilometres in temperatures of over 24 degrees."

Thirteen-year-old Finley loves helping everyone at our Portsmouth store when he calls in with his mum Kate on their regular shopping trips – and he’s such a star that colleagues in the store have given him his own name badge and lanyard.
Finley, who's autistic, used to get anxious in big shops, but he's loved visiting Asda ever since his auntie Sarah – who works at the store – encouraged him to help out. Kate said: "His favourite thing to do is help out on the Scan & Go, as he likes putting the used handsets back in their slots. He also likes collecting baskets and putting things on the shelves. The colleagues are great with him – they all say 'hello Finley' when he comes in. He loves his Asda visits and says 'I want to work in Asda when I grow up, and I want to be the manager!'." I was delighted to present Mal from Haydon Wick over 60s club with a cheque for £300 from the Asda Foundation to help pay for a party this Christmas.
Mal was over the moon to receive her cheque on behalf of the club. They sometimes struggle to keep the club open and this means they will be able to enjoy a Christmas party. I can't wait to attend!

A very happy 90th birthday to our wonderful colleague Frances who's worked at our Brighton Hollingbury store for more than 25 years!
Great-grandmother Frances, who works on the kiosk, is a big favourite with colleagues and customers – many of whom got together to surprise her on her big day by decorating the kiosk and giving her cake, cards and flowers. Frances didn't want any presents, so colleagues made donations to the MS Society UK. She said: "I was overwhelmed and gobsmacked when I walked in. It was very nice and kind. They had put a lot of thought in and it really made my day." Read Frances's story: http://bit.ly/2JWyt18

It's great to be able to make a difference to two local sports clubs by helping them secure important donations from our charitable arm the Asda Foundation.
I presented a cheque for £924 to Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Football Club's under-14s and for £525.87 to Lydiard Millicent Juniors Fc to buy new kit. Good luck to them both next season!

A massive thank you to everyone who helped with our community litter pick in the area around our Haydon store.
The store's community champion Jane helped organise the activity – and she said: "We collected a lot of litter from fast food and retail outlets around the park. Local residents were thrilled that we made a difference."

Eight-year-old Joe often finds it overwhelming when he's in a large shop – but he loves helping his mum Pat on their regular trips to our Gosforth store after striking up a special relationship with our fantastic checkout colleague Joan.
Joan's helped Joe to relax and feel more confident by chatting to him, giving him a seat at her till and even letting him help her scan the shopping – and Pat says Joe, who has cerebral palsy and autism, loves her to bits. Pat said: "We've found the staff at Asda Gosforth are brilliant with him, especially Joan. Every week for the last year we've gone to her till. She's so pleasant and patient with him and very kind too – he's really connected with her." Read Joe's story here: http://bit.ly/2LM2HGr
