About Big Beat

Welcome to our page We are BIGBEAT. A world record breaking junk percussion band. We are available for gigs but also run exciting and fun workshops: )

Big Beat Description

We are a 30 strong group of musicians and play on rubbish (trash for our american friends) We can perform on a stage or totally acoustic as our instruments are very loud. We play on , Kitchen sinks, Shopping trolleys, Gas pipes, old hoovers, plastic drums of various size and pitch and anything that makes a good noise.
We have been performing a long time and have opened the cabaret stage at Glastonbury festival for the past 16 years as well as other UK festivals such as Reading Festival, Beautiful Days, Big Green Gathering, to name but a few. We do a fair bit of corporate events, award ceremony’s, team building events etc. and sometimes we play a set then hand out up to 2000 hand held junk instruments for the audience to join in with. In fact if you go to http://www. youtube.com/bigbeatjunk you will be able to see a clip where we appeared on Sky 1's "Guinness World Records: Smashed" where we managed to get the world record for the largest junk orchestra! Following on from this we also appeared on Channel 4's "Paul O'Grady Show".
In 2002 we performed at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth games in Manchester as well as playing for the Queen in Buckingham Palace for her Golden Jubilee. Recently we have again been working for Sky at their "SkyFest" event supporting such acts as Eliza Doolittle and Diversity, we also had an opportunity to have a cup of tea with Tinie Tempah's mum!
