What an amazing shot!
When we talk in class about the pelvis stretching and opening to allow your baby through, THIS is what we mean. Your body is DESIGNED to give birth, and this is how.
The back portion of the pelvis can MOVE. It can stretch out and create space for your baby to descend. But this process is so much harder if you're lying on your back.
... So allow yourself to stay upright, and allow yourself to reach above your head and find something to pull against. Your body is opening and knows what it needs!

A little visual on the differences between early labour and active labour, for those who haven't already seen it 😉
Remember, all you need to do is relax and breathe, your body will take care of the rest!

Was asked this morning about aromatherapy oils to use in labour.
Well, for specific advice you're best off asking a midwife and/or qualified aromatherapist in order to make sure you're choosing the right oils for you...
But as a general rule of thumb something like lavender is safe for most women to use during pregnancy and birth.
... It has a calming effect, and in labour that means more effective, more comfortable surges!
Other effects of lavender include: • Pain relief • Anti-bacterial and anti-viral • Anti-inflammatory • Muscle relaxant
But it can also drop your blood pressure or trigger hayfever, so be careful!
If lavender's not your favourite smell, try combining it with mandarin or tangerine oil. A couple of drops of each onto a tissue or in a diffuser works perfectly together to keep you calm and comfortable.
💜
PS - If you're new to aromatherapy, please do seek medical advice before using any essential oils as just like drugs, we all have different needs and different reactions!

One of my favourite homebirth articles and always worth another share!
A really common thing I hear is that mum would love a homebirth but dad isn't/wasn't keen. In reality, even the most reluctant "Homebirth Dads" often become the most vocal advocates!
What was YOUR experience?

We attended a session with Alison yesterday. My husband and I found Alison very friendly and easy to chat to. It was also great to meet a few other couples and share thoughts and ideas in a relaxed environment. We definitely picked up a few excellent pointers and I will be sure to use the breathing technique that we learnt when the time comes. Thank you Alison xx

Very informative and made me feel more at ease and prepared for birth

The hypnobirthing course delivered by Alison was fantastic. We went to a taster session first which was useful before committing to the whole course. Alison was really flexible with dates and times and was also a fabulous coach, explaining all aspects of birth in a way which really made sense to us. The relaxation techniques are useful not just for but for every day life (especially with a fussy newborn). The course is also not just focussed on a drug free labour, but on empowering mothers and birth partners to make decisions on what is the right birth on the day. I would definitely recommend taking hypnobirthing classes to anyone wanting to approach their birth calm, confident and in control.
