As we had the first frost a few weeks ago, don't forget to give your horse their autumn/winter wormer to treat encysted small redworm larvae. We wait until after the first frost so that re-infection from larvae on the pasture is minimised. #equinevets #wormingtips

Is your horse microchipped? A new law is coming into force making it compulsory for ALL horses, ponies and donkeys to be microchipped. But don't panic, you have until October 2020 to comply! We can microchip your horse for you - please speak to your vet or call your local B&W Clinic. If you need to get your horse microchipped, maybe consider getting it done at your next routine appointment for a vaccination or dental? Get prepared, find out more here: https://goo.gl/Radt2X

Similar to the human strain of the disease, equine influenza can break out at any time but tends to favour winter months as horses are more likely to be in stables and barns where ventilation can be restricted. A proper vaccination programme protects them against this debilitating and preventable disease. An annual flu & tetanus vaccination is one of the many great benefits/discounts of the Horse Health Programme at £10.99 per month. #equinevets #horsehealthtips #horsehealthprogramme

B&W vet, Kelly Harrison-Tait, was at West Kington Stud this morning when the very popular stallion, Cevin Z (who stands at WKS), popped by to say hello. How gorgeous is he? 😍😍😍#equinevets #studvet West Kington Stud

Can anyone guess which racecourse our vet, Scott Milnes, is at for a couple of days attending the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons conference? Clue: it has a garden named after a very famous racehorse. #racecoursevet #equinevets

Don't forget that all of our clinics offer Zone Days. There is no visit fee for your call on a zone day and appointments are available for routine work such as vaccinations, micro-chipping, teeth rasping, non-emergency examination and re-examinations. Call your local clinic or refer to our website for further details. #novisitfee #equinevets #zonedays

Do you worry about your horse during the winter? Why not come along to a 'Winter Worries' talk by one of our Willesley vets, Kelly Harrison-Tait, on Monday evening at The Old Stables Saddlery, Hullavington. All welcome and free entry, along with a glass of bubbly on arrival 😊🍾🐴❄️🌧️

User

If your horse is registered on the Horse Health Programme, don't forget to test your horse for tapeworm using the test kit we provided you with. And don't forget that there is an appropriate autumn wormer included as one of the many benefits of being on the Programme. #targetedworming #autumnwinterworming #horsehealthprogramme

User

We need your help please!
We would like to get a better understanding of what joint supplements you use. If you have a spare few minutes please either comment on this message or email us on enquiries@bwequinevets.co.uk.
1. How many horses do you own?... 2. What do you use your horses for: leisure / competition / other? 3. Do you routinely feed your horses a joint supplement? 4. If you feed a joint supplement, what supplement do you use? 5. Were you recommended to feed a joint supplement by your vet?
Finally, we'd be really grateful if you would share this post so that we can reach as many horse owners as possible.
Thank you for your time.

The telephones at our Willesley clinic are now back in operation following a power failure earlier this morning 😀. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Barton & Teddy of the Gloucester Police Mounted Section were on duty at the weekend taking part in a Memorial Parade in Cheltenham on Saturday and a Remembrance Day event at Gloucester Cathedral yesterday. The police officers wore lanyards bearing the names of fallen soldiers who were both in the Horse Artillery. We are very proud to support these wonderful horses.

This is such a moving poem and very appropriate for sharing with you today as we remember all those people and animals who gave their lives for our country and our freedom.
I SPOKE TO YOU IN WHISPERS By Neil Andrew I spoke to you in whispers... As shells made the ground beneath us quake We both trembled in that crater A toxic muddy bloody lake I spoke to you and pulled your ears To try and quell your fearful eye As bullets whizzed through the raindrops And we watched the men around us die I spoke to you in stable tones A quiet tranquil voice At least I volunteered to fight You didn't get to make the choice I spoke to you of old times Perhaps you went before the plough And pulled the haycart from the meadow Far from where we're dying now I spoke to you of grooming Of when the ploughman made you shine Not the shrapnel wounds and bleeding flanks Mane filled with mud and wire and grime I spoke to you of courage As gas filled the Flanders air Watched you struggle in the mud Harness acting like a snare I spoke to you of peaceful fields Grazing beneath a setting sun Time to rest your torn and tired body Your working day is done I spoke to you of promises If from this maelstrom I survive By pen and prose and poetry I'll keep your sacrifice alive I spoke to you of legacy For when this hellish time is through All those who hauled or charged or carried Will be regarded heroes too I spoke to you in dulcet tones Your eye told me you understood As I squeezed my trigger to bring you peace The the only way I could And I spoke to you in whispers......

Just a reminder about this great cover from KBIS. Throughout the winter we regularly have horses admitted to the hospital with septic joints resulting from blackthorns picked up from 'hedge hopping' whilst out hunting. The cost of treating a septic joint is upwards of £3,600 and this insurance from KBIS provides a fantastic level of cover at a great price. It is perfect for horses which hunt or team chase. Please contact KBIS directly or go to their website for more details of if you wish to purchase this insurance. B & W Equine Group Limited is an Introducer Appointed Representatives of KBIS Limited which is regulated by the FCA (firm reference number 300861).

Last week, Ollie Crowe, one of the specialist vets at our Equine Hospital, attended the World Horse Welfare conference in London. This year's theme was 'Changing Times'. A wide range of speakers and discussion panelists highlighted everything from the need to help people to help horses, the changing trends in equine training methods, the world behind the phenomenon of Gypsy cobs - and of course the possible impacts of Brexit. If you would like to listen to any of the speaker/sessions, please use the link below. World Horse Welfare is an international horse charity that improves the lives of horses in the UK and around the world through education, campaigning, and hands-on care. https://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/confere nce

This 5* is for Martha who helped me and my horse Max hugely on Sat. Martha went above and beyond and stayed with us for 2 hours until Max was happy. Martha acted with such patience, calmness and listened to both me and Max, which resulted in a positive outcome I at some points didn't think was going to be possible. The biggest thank you from me and max who is now loving life again.

It's extremely hard to find vets that you like and trust. B&W provided us with the most amazing service with our Shire Jack in the colic surgery. Sadly he died of a heart attack a few hours post surgery. Even still we have used B&W on occasions since and think you are just so helpful always at the end of the phone. A special thanks to Duncan for that day with Jack. He was quick and efficient... we did all we could! Thanks again guys!!!

User

I cannot praise Anna Endrikat enough from this practice. She has been upfront and practical throughout my horses treatment and has worked tirelessly alongside his Physio to achieve the impossible. She has set the veterinarian standard so high that B&W must be proud to have a vet of her calibre on side!

Couldn't recommend enough!

Had to have Iona’s woody age 7 put down a few weeks ago. Everyone was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble for anyone at B&W. The vet who came to our house was so kind and gentle with him and she helped make a terrible decision a lot easier stayed ages after to make sure we were ok and Scott was my rock the whole way through 18 months of lameness diagnosis. Thanks everyone

User

Had Adam come out for the second time today, and he was so proffesional, down to earth, helpful and reassuring. All the people I have spoken to over the phone have also been lovely. Thank you all.

First class care at Breadstone and lovely staff. Regular calls to update on my pony’s progress. Thank you guys.

Amazing vets and support staff. Could not have asked for more support for not only my horse but for me when faced with the toughest of decisions. Thank you for all your kindness right up until the end. Cannot recommend enough.

User

Absoulutely lovely people have been and still are being hands down amazing with my boy Parton. Thank you

A big thank you to the team at B & W for a very informative evening for our group from Tumpy Green.

146 days ago my pony came in with laminitis, X Ray's confirmed rotation in both fronts.

We have seen a number of vets in this time, but Steph Gent from the Willesley practice has mainly been seeing to him.

Always been given excellent advice and support when the going got tough -

Today willow was given the all clear & his second chance and I will be forever grateful to all at B&W from your vets to your admin staff you are all truly Angels X

I do not ever remember asking to go paperless with you ... vets who I have been with for more than 10 years. I myself run a business and do a monthly invoice roll so you can imagine my surprise that I'm now getting emailed invoices 2 days after a vet visit, even before the horse has finished treatment and been signed off as well.
