About Cool Earth

Cool Earth is the charity that works alongside rainforest communities to halt rainforest destruction.

Cool Earth Description

Since 2007, Cool Earth has worked alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and its effect on climate change. Across 13 partnerships around the tropics, from Peru to Papua New Guinea, Cambodia to Cameroon, we are taking essential climate action to keep trees standing.

From setting up an in-country team to working directly with communities and local NGOs to develop their capacity, Cool Earth’s partnerships are community-led, agile and adaptable to each location.

Whether its developing sustainable incomes, creating opportunities for better education or achieving greater food security, every decision is made to enable strong, self-determining communities that have greater capacity to protect their forest.

Innovations in community-led conservation are the key to scaling up rapid rainforest protection and the lessons learned in one partnership can often be applied to benefit another.

Cool Earth shares these most effective conservation methods around the world and invests in those with the potential for best outcomes for people and rainforest.

Coconut palms line the shore in many parts of Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea. Some trees may have been there for a hundred years and wherever a coconut washes up, a new palm grows.
Communities are now finding new ways to use these trees to develop sustainable, reliable incomes.

It’s August 2nd. We’re now living beyond our means.
Yesterday was #EarthOvershootDay, when humans have already used all the planet’s ecological resources and services that nature can regenerate in the entire year.
We have to take action now to make a positive difference:... http://ow.ly/3n4930lerwv

It’s August 1st. And it’s also the day that, in 2018, humankind has already used all of the planet’s ecological resources and services that nature can regenerate in the entire year.
As a species, we are using the resources of 1.7 planets. In the USA, it's 5. If you're looking to reduce your carbon footprint, the rainforest is the place to start:

Sequester, store or simply lock-it-in. Whatever you call it, keeping carbon locked away in rainforest is undeniably the best chance we have of halting catastrophic climate change. But one vital part of tropical forests often gets overlooked: mangroves.
Read more about these wonderful fish nurseries and coastline buffers this International Day of the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem.

Peru may not have made it past the group stages, but they still have the best defenders in the world.
The weekly five-a-side tournament in Huaracayo, Peru, is more than just a kickaround. It’s the perfect way for our partners to spread the word about Cool Earth to neighbouring villages.
... In the game of deforestation, Cool Earth's Peruvian partners are the clear winners.

Cool Earth's mission is to halt tropical deforestation and degradation until it plays no part in climate change. It’s ambitious, but, by working to develop sustainable incomes from the forest, trees become more valuable with their roots in the ground.
Empowered households, villages and communities are able to stop small-scale rainforest destruction. They just need a helping hand.

This organisation is highly effective in combatting climate change and well worth supporting

User

The most effective idea for defending our climate security and providing a more abundant habitat for all life on this swirling space pebble! I love donating to Cool Earth! I feel good for weeks after donating to Cool Earth it feels Amazing.

User

Let's support these people to conserve the remaining forests in Peru, the protected areas show us how we must maintain our biological diversity.

User

I've just read 'Doing Good Better' (a really interesting book). Everyone wants the money they give to be really effective. If you want to make a big difference with your giving to counteract climate change and promote climate justice, this is the charity: Cool Earth

User

I feel good about this charity, and 'any December donation will be matched by two generous supporters'!

User

I carefully researched which Climate Change organization was most effective, and found that both "Give Well" and "Giving What We Can" - two organizations that assess charities across various metrics, highly recommend COOL EARTH. Rather than buying land, they work with indigenous communities, developing partnerships that provide incentives, such as supporting local schools, investing in industries like coffee, and targeting maternal healthcare.

User

Effective and efficient at getting positive actions....terrific!

User

After much research into deciding which three charities to donate directly from my monthly payslip Cool Earth was certainly one of them. It looks as though they really utilise every single penny that they are given towards the cause... I look forward to seeing more of your great work in the future =).
