About Devizes Caravan And Camping Club Site

Devizes Camping and Caravanning Club

Devizes Caravan And Camping Club Site Description

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

We stayed here back in August. This was the 2nd time we have been and the managers remembered us from before. The showers are always clean and hot. Site is very well kept and all the staff are lovely. Make you feel really welcome. Lovely walks along the canals. Just can't recommend this site enough. We love it so much we are camping here for Christmas and can wait !

User

We have just left after a full week stay with our 4 children, nephew and 2 dogs.

Steve and Jeanette are the most welcoming people and nothing was ever too much to ask! The Jumbo pitch was perfect for our large party! We will 100% be back!

User

Very friendly, great size pitches, good facilities will be back again soon 😊

User

This was our fifth stay at Devizes. The staff were friendly and helpful. The showers were tepid on Saturday morning but the plumber had already been called and showers were lovely and hot by Sunday morning.

The hard standings are really good quality so I'm.not sure where the other reviewer had stayed.

The kids love the play park and looking out for rabbits. The nearby pub, The Three Magpies, serves great food and has a large outdoor seating area.

Looking forward to.our next visit in October.

User

The site is so convenient for the canal and walking/cycling into Devizes or Bradford on Avon along the tow path. Bus stop over the road means you don't have to walk both ways - although we did. Kingfisher spotting near Foxhangar during the late afternoon/evening always came up trumps. The staff were excellent and nothing is too much bother for them. Showers OK might get a bit busy in high season as only 4 ladies cubicles. This time of year mainly MH on site - so not an issue. Definitely be back

User

Nice spot. Right on the canal. Pub out the front. And a bus stops here to go to town

User

Lovely, clean site. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Showers and toilets were very clean and the showers were hot and powerful. The hairdryer in the ladies was much better than many I have used in other camp sites.

We took a dog with us. On site there was a field ample big enough to throw a ball for him. The site is right next to the Kennet and Avon Canal, so it was possible to go for nice, long walks as well.

User

Just spent two weeks here over Christmas and New Year with some friends. The site is so convenient for the canal and walking into Devizes along the tow ath. Bus stop over the road makes thus less strenuous!! The staff were excellent and nothing is too much bother for them. The Three Magpies next door had a great evening lined up for New Years Eve too. Food excellent and well kept Real Ales.

This was my second visit here, and felt sad at leaving today to return home. Will definitely be back.

User

Great place to stay. We was recommended here by a good friend. Facilities are nice and clean all the time. Stayed for valentines week. Staff were excellent even if our kids weren’t.

User

Friendly welcome great staff even joked about using tractor to site caravan .

We found it clean

and close to three magpies pub which could have become a habit for food alone .

But no constant ‘are you ok’ was good but staff were always around if required.

Downside : I agree with other members more shower and toilets required and the toilet mobile waste disposal is in need of an upgrade.

We intend to return next year.

User

Brilliant campsite, managers and staff all very pleasant and very helpful, they even remembered our names from our first visit 5 months ago!

The site is immaculate, toilet/shower block is always clean, really can't fault this place, been her a couple of times now and it's now our favourite site, will be back again soon

User

Brilliant camp site, lovely clean toilets & shower block would def recommend this place. It also has a canal by the side of the camp which is really nice & quiet to walk along. The canal is separated by a bushed area and a row of trees and a walk way. There is a dog walk, where you can let your dogs off their leads which is at the back of the campsite. Which is really great.

User

A lovely site nestled on the side of the canal, the site managers are very friendly & courteous, the facilities are very well cleaned and tidy, the site itself very well maintained, pitches are level and clean and the grass kept tidy. If your looking for a bite to eat or a good pint, the Barge Inn very friendly, the food amazing and a good selection of Ales & with its surroundings set nestled on the side of the canal, it makes for a perfect meal, overall a lovely weekend topped off by staying on one of the best sites we have stayed on.

User

A gem of a site recommended to me by friends who had visited. The whole site was very clean and tidy. Ideally sited for walks along the canal. Highly advise a to visit The Barge Inn and the Caen Hill cafe. Wardens couldn't do enough for you and are really welcoming. Will be re-visiting in the future.

User

This is our 3rd stray here. The site is lovely, well spaced pitches with a good mix of sun, shade & secluded.

Facilities are good, the showers are hot and powerful but they do look in need of some TLC. Cleaned daily but with tell-tale signs that they are getting a bit old!

Site managers are lovely, friendly & helpful. Great for walking the dogs, lots of options for eating out, excellent public transport and lots to see & do.

User

Pretty good size gravel pitches for those who want hardstanding we have a motorhome but noticed caravans have to park cars in front of caravan if they have an awning. Really rainy weekend unfortunately a lot of the grass pitches were waterlogged which hadn’t been hired out any way. Only 4 showers in ladies block but really clean. Wardens were really nice.

User

Had an amazing week at the site, everyone was lovely and the site very clean. We had some very wet weather at the beginning of our week but pitch was great. Loads of good stuff locally and would recommend Bowood House for a visit. Only reason for the 4 stars is the toilet block is in need of a refurb and could have been a bath tub in the parent and child room. Only other comment would be the showers are cleaned a bit too early at 10.30 and then out of action until noon.

User

A lovely site, with good access friendly and professional wardens clean shower/toilet block plenty of hot water , close to the Avon and Kennet canal for walking, and highly recommend the local pub The Magpie for its food and ale selection.

User

Very clean toilets and showers, though in peak season, I don’t think four showers will be anywhere near enough. The site itself is tidy, but looked bare, but I think it will look a lot nicer when there are leaves in the trees and the sun is shining! The wardens were professional, and straight to the point. Lovely pub next door, Three Magpies. Food was amazing! Wouldn’t rush back, but nice enough for a few days away.
