I was pleased to be back at last week's session after an absence of three weeks and a good do it was. Importantly, you will find in the report linked below details of some upcoming themed sessions, the first of which is this Friday, 14 February, and is naturally for St Valentine, so your tales and songs of love and lust will be particularly welcome. Themes are always optional though, so don't worry if you can fit it.
As always we offer: free entry, a reasonably priced bar, great acoustics and good company. See you there!

Thanks to all who attended last week's Dragon Folk Club session, including visitor Mal and particularly to "Substitute Scribe" Derek for his sterling work recording for posterity details of recent sessions.
I know of no special theme this Friday, so not only are all welcome as always but welcome to perform whatever they like as long as it's acoustic, or failing that to fill in as our audience.
Usual terms apply: Free Entry; Reasonably-priced Bar; Great Acoustics; Good Company

So it turns out that our Burns' Night session was cut slightly short but seems to have gone well nevertheless. I am not aware of a theme this Friday, so come all ye to sing and play whatever ye want, or as usual to simply listen. Your presence either way will be very welcome.
All the usual attributes: free entry, reasonably priced bar, great acoustics and good company.

Thanks to everyone who made it a good turn-out last Friday for the Dragon session. This Firday will be our our Robert Burns theme being very close to Burns' Night. Anything with a Scottish theme will be very welcome, particularly songs and poems associated with "Rabbie". However, as usual, all contributions on or off topic are perfectly acceptable as is turning up just to listen.
Free Entry; Reasonably priced bar; Great Acoustics; Good Company.

Get down to The Bridge Inn this Friday for the Dragon Folk Club. There will be no theme, so anything goes as long as it's acoustic.
Keeping it brief, the usual attributes apply: free entry, a reasonably priced bar, great acoustics and good company.

Thanks to those who turned out for our New Year session last Friday and to those who didn't... we really need you this Friday to give us some more inspiration, whether you perform in your own right, join in a few choruses or just listen and maybe partake of the banter. There will be no theme, so there is no pressure to conform apart from the usual request for anything as long as it's acoustic.
Free Entry; Reasonably-Priced Bar; Great Acoustics; Good Company
See you there!

Let's start 2020 better than we finished 2019, and that means, please come along to the Bridge Inn, Shortwood, Bristol BS16 9NG from 8:15pm this Friday, 3 January. We need you to make the session really live.
It doesn't matter whether you are an established singer and player, whether you would just like to try out singing in front of a small, friendly audience, or whether you have no intention of performing but would just like to listen.
This week's theme is New Year but as u...sual it's a starting point, there's no restrictions over what you can perform except that it needs to be acoustic.

Well, at last week's session we consumed some of the Christmas left-overs (yes, we're slightly ahead of ourselves at the Dragon Folk Club) and now we're turning to Boxing Day for this Friday. That's a pretty restrictive theme so don't let it worry you. In fact we really need you to come along this week and sing away those Christmas blues. Who else provides you with a chance to perform on 27 December, or indeed to be audience at anything other than a pantomime (Oh yes *we* do).
Please join us at The Bridge Inn, Shortwood, Bristol BS16 9NG from 8:15pm this Friday. Entry is free, the drink is... reasonable the acoustics great and the company not bad either.

What makes a good Christmas session? Good company, food, traditional and modern Christmas songs and a bit of "Bah Humbug". We had all these at The Dragon Folk Club last Friday. This week there is officially no theme but I'm sure we will muster offerings for Christmas, Yule, Saturnalia and whatever other midwinter festivals we can find at this time of year. When we run out of those we'll just resort to songs about everything and nothing.
Happy Christmas; Joyeux Noel; Feliz Nav...idad; God Jul... etc. to you all.
It's also worth putting in your diary that we will definitely have a session ("acts of God" permitting) on Friday 27 December, so if you are sick of the sight of turkey, sprouts and the family then come and join us for a sing and a chat... and if you're not fed up of the sight of the family, bring them with you as well! As usual it will be at The Bridge, 8:15pm with free entry, reasonably priced drinks, great acoustics and pretty decent company.

We should all be ready and raring to go for the Christmas themed session this Friday (13 December). It will be just the thing to help you recover from the election blues. It doesn't matter whether you are the first in your street to put up the tinsel or whether you are the last one saying "Bah humbug", everyone has a Christmas or anti-Christmas song, tune, story, poem, monologue or joke to offer. And if you don't feel like performing then come along anyway and be our audience. There'll no doubt be plenty of banter and the odd chorus to sing along to.
As usual it's free entry, there's a reasonably priced bar down the corridor, the acoustics are great and the company's not too bad. I would advise wearing a few layers in case there's a nip in the air but we'll try to make the welcome as warming as possible.

There was a note in this week's blog report but in case you missed it, our official Christmas session will be on 13 December. Apart from welcoming your (optional) Christmas related contributions in the form of songs, tunes, etc. there will be a few Christmassy treats, so get down to The Bridge on Friday 13th.
I said "official Christmas session" because the Christmas theme often carries on for a week or two after that.

After our enjoyable and informative St Andrew's Day session last week, we can look forward to our Christmas session, likely to be complete with seasonal treats... but not yet, that will be on 13 December. First we have a themeless session this Friday. Please come along to offer your contributions, musical or otherwise to the evening, of if you don't have a performance to offer your presence as an audience member and maybe to join in some banter and a chorus or two would also be very welcome. As usual entry is free, drinks are well-priced, acoustics are great and the company is pretty good too.

Terry Helyar’s Monday lunchtime session tomorrow, 12:00 - 15:00 at The Beaufort Hunt, Chipping Sodbury: good friends, good music, good food.

This Friday's session for the Dragon will be the day before St Sndrew's Day and St Andrew is the theme. That means the core will be songs, tunes and other performance from or about Scotland, but don't neglect Andrew's other patronages.
As usual entry is free, drinks are reasonably priced and acoustics are great. The company isn't so bad either. Be there, Friday from 8:15pm at The Bridge Inn Shortwood!

User

Despite a bit of a hangover from Remembrance the week before, last week's Dragon session was a short but sweet affair of varied songs. This Friday there is again no theme so there's definitely no excuse but do get ready for next week when we are marking St Andrew's Day.
We really need you to support this long-running club because we have been a bit thin on the ground recently. We draw upon quite a good pool of occasional visitors but we definitely need more to keep it lively. Remember, entrance is free, drinks are reasonably priced, acoustics are great and the company's not bad either... and Colin assured me last week that the radiators were hot!

This Monday, 12:00 until 15:00 - order food at the bar and they will deliver about 13:00. Friendly and varied.
