About Edwin Tucker And Sons

Edwin Tucker and Sons

Edwin Tucker And Sons Description

It was in 1862 that Edwin Tucker, a keen farmer, purchased the Seed, Malting and Agricultural business of Mr. William Rolestone Whiteway of Ashburton, who hade been trading since 1831. He was keen to be involved in the seed business as he felt there was considerable room for improvement within the trade, his legacy for supplying quality seeds to West Country farmers still remains the company’s philosophy to this day. Even though history shows there were many Malthouses in Devon at the time (many pubs had there own attached) the Maltings side of the business also fitted in well with Edwin Tucker’s vision as he was able to reciprocal trade with his farmer customers by buying back their barley. Edwin Tucker was later joined by his three sons and together they continued to expand all sides of the business. In 1876 they moved from their rented site in East Street to a new purpose built maltings in Station Yard, Ashburton.

Weather Alert for our Open days
Severe weather warnings have been issued for Monday, although this weather front may not even hit Bridgewater; the met office are saying that “there is a large amount of uncertainty at present”.
Whatever the weather does or does not do, staff from both Tuckers and Rijk Zwaan will all still be at Huntstile, to meet, discuss varieties and techniques and answer your questions, as will our ten trade stands. If necessary, we will simply move to t...he cover of the marquee where the refreshments are and take advantage of any breaks in the weather to venture outside. Bring your wellies though! We look forward to seeing you there.

Flower of the day get 10% off a Nigella - Hardy Annual
... Normally sown in situ from March onwards when soil conditions allow. Usually flowering from June until the frosts kill them. For earlier flowers many species can be sown in September a...nd overwintered in mild areas. Hardy annuals are generally easy to grow, quick to flower and are great for filling in gaps. However large or small your garden they represent great value for money.
More romantically known as Love in a mist, which is a far better descriptive name. Fluffy, star like, pretty flowers are displayed amidst fine greenery. A subtly coloured plant to grace any flowerbed. The heads are often dried and used in flower arrangements. Sow at 18-20ºC (64-68ºF) Cover with vermiculite or compost. Can be sown directly in situ and thinned as required.
