The emotion that a family has to go through was unmanageable so if I can help in a little way so I know that the next family that need the support and care for their little one, it will be available. John-Paul my grandson has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and will be partially blind so my little man is still fightin his battles so that's why I'm going to do battle over this 10k 20 obstacle cours. Easter weekend Kayaking! рЯША вАУ This is what Nick Prichard and Matt Webster will be doing for their 4 days over Easter, for the care given to NickвАЩs son and his family. рЯЪ£вАНвЩВпЄП рЭЧ£рЭЧЃрЭЧ±рЭЧ±рЭЧєрЭЧґрЭЧїрЭЧі рЭЯ≠рЭЯЃрЭЯ± рЭЧЇрЭЧґрЭЧєрЭЧ≤рЭША рЭЧґрЭЧї рЭЧЃ рЭЧЮрЭЯЃ рЭЧЄрЭЧЃрЭШЖрЭЧЃрЭЧЄ рЯЪ£вАНвЩВпЄП, рЭЧ≥рЭЧњрЭЧЉрЭЧЇ рЭЧЧрЭЧ≤рЭШГрЭЧґрЭШЗрЭЧ≤рЭША рЭШБрЭЧЉ рЭЧ™рЭЧ≤рЭШАрЭШБрЭЧЇрЭЧґрЭЧїрЭШАрЭШБрЭЧ≤р ЭЧњ in the international canoe marathon рЯТ™.
They have been training since September, having never been in a Kayak before!. FoPICU understands it took them 3 weeks of constant falling in before they could even go 20metres рЯШГ. We hope they can kee...p upright and maintain their great friendship all the way to the finish, perhaps even swapping from front to back for a change of head view рЯШБ.
Starting in Devizes, finishing just downstream of Westminster Bridge in central London. The race has been held annually over the Easter Weekend since 1948. The challenge is 125 miles long and has 77 portages (where they wil have to carry their kayak and gear around the lock to the next part of the river). Split 34 miles (Devizes to Newbury,) on Good Friday, 36 miles (Newbury to Marlow,) on Saturday, 38 miles (Marlow to Teddington,) on Easter Sunday and then the final 17miles on the tidal portion of the Thames finishing opposite the Houses of Parliament. Crossing from the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading, then on the River Thames.
According to the organisers website - The race may be only undertaken in kayaks or open canoes, and recommend selecting a stable boat as water conditions on the final section of the race can be extremely challenging!!

In KarlвАЩs Words: вАШIn November 2016 on... a Friday morning mine and Laurens little lady Darcee at seven months old was rushed to hospital very unwell - a lot more poorly then we expected'.
'The doctor explained to me that they were going to place Darcee into a medically induced coma and put her up onto the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) where she would have 24 hour one to one care. While on the picu ward Darcee battled so hard and done really well but there was a couple of complications which resulted in Darcee needing a blood transfusion due to very low blood oxygen levels and having 500+ millilitres of fluid drained from her tiny chest'.
Darcee spent the next 6 days in a coma on the picu ward where the nothing short of amazing doctors and nurses worked miracles. Not only did they work their magic on Darcee they always made time for me and Lauren to make sure we were ok and coping as well as we could.
After 6 days in a coma Darcee was moved onto the childrens ward where she continued her recovery at a greater speed then they had expected mainly due to their amazing care.
IвАЩm doing the skydive to help raise much needed funds to allow them to get the things they need to continue to work their magic and continue to help the many poorly little ones who need them. I also feel I need to give something back because if it wasnвАЩt for them me and Lauren wouldn't be blessed with the beautiful cheeky funny little lady we have today.

In GeorgeвАЩs words: вАШMy name is Izaak and I was born on the 1st December 2017. In my short life I have spent a lot of time in hospital. When I was just 5 days old I developed a severe breathing proble...m. My mummy and daddy took me to the hospital but were sent home after being told it was something viral numerous times... My mummy and daddy made videos of me breathing at its worst and when the doctors and nurses at Southampton PICU saw them, they came and got me straight away! I had an operation to remove the obstruction in my airway and under the care of the PICU they ran more tests and found some other issues. The PICU save the countryвАЩs most poorly children and babies on a daily basis. They continue to support me and my family and lots of other families every dayвАЩ.

On 6th July, exactly 3 months time, Peter Higgins and Natalie Rees will be celebrating their wedding рЯТНрЯШК. And so very kindly in place of wedding presents they have asked for donations to Friends of PICU вАУ where their daughter Freya was cared for in 2015.
In their words: 'When Freya was 10wks old she collapsed and was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, a condition whereby the heart is enlarged and cannot pump the blood around the body effectively. Freya was anaesthetised..., ventilated and our nearest childrenвАЩs intensive care unit (PICU) with a bed was in Southampton, where we all spent the next month while they fought tirelessly day and night to save FreyaвАЩs life. They think Freya had a virus, and her heart is strong and resilient like her and showing amazing signs of recovery'.

In 4 weeks time Ray Day will be рЯПГвАНвЩВпЄПrunning the London MarathonрЯПГвАНвЩВпЄП. Pounding the streets of London for PICU рЯША.
Ray and his family have been supporting PICU for the past 6 years, running lots of miles, and completing a skydive, but this is his first London MarathonрЯСН. RayвАЩs Son, Rex was born on 08.09.13 in Frimley, at 2 days old he was found to ...have a serious heart condition, he was picked up by Southampton and rushed down there. He was on PICU for 5 days before he was transferred to Ocean Ward at 7 days old. He had his first heart operation at 8 days old so spent a couple of days back on PICU. We were taken back to Frimley in the Friends of PICU ambulance. On the 9th April 2014 Rex once again returned to PICU after his open heart surgery, he stayed again for a few days. He returned home after a week in hospital. He's now a cheeky 5 ¬љ year old and doing so well.

There will be an array of high quality items being auctioned with all proceeds going to Friends of PICU рЯШК. Items in...clude: some 75/80 lots, Days out, Stays Away and some wonderful experiences, from Music Festivals, to a day with the Red Arrows at their Headquarters at RAF Scampton, to include lunch with the pilots, sitting in on their debrief session, and seeing them in practice. There is also the chance for two people to visit the Bugatti Headquarters in Molsheim, France, to tour the factory, and for one person to test drive the Bugatti Chiron (Flights & Accomodation not included), but Bugatti will arrange pick-ups. This is known as the Molsheim Experience, and is usually only available to those going to the HQ to purchase one of their iconic supercars. A wonderful Thank You to Jo, Mark, Evie and Olivia Bennett for their рЯМЯ fabulous donation of ¬£947 рЯМЯ plus lots of lovely gifts, including chocolates and biscuits for the nurses and doctors, and tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cup a soups for the parents accommodation, and some beautifully knitted hats from grandma рЯШК.
Their daughter Olivia was cared for in January 2018 following bronchiolitis, and in JoвАЩs words: вАШThe team in PICU were incredible, they made sure I was ok whilst ge...tting Olivia settled, they gave us accommodation so that we could all stay together to support Olivia through everything. They work so hard day in day out to ensure that the best possible care is given! Without them I could have been telling a very different story!вАЩ

These guy do an amazing job fundraising for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton. Our daughter spent a few days in PICU and we will be looking to make a donation in the future

Really can't thank the team at picu enough.My son was blue lighted here from worthing when he began to loose consciousness and was put in a induced coma so tests could be carried out and medicine given.



It was a very scary time as he was fine one minute and not the next.Even though it is still rather a mystery we are hoping and keeping everything crossed that we never have to go through that again.



The staff are amazing and always made time to talk us through what was going on.
