Just on the way home from an amazing 7 night break at golden sands! Staff were lovely in reception, entertainment was fantastic, food was beautiful took a while to get it but was worth the wait once it came. The caravan was lovely, very clean and comfortable, missing a couple of sets of cutlery but popped into reception on the way to the pool and by the time we got back some more had be delivered. Hopefully see you again soon golden sands thanks for a great holiday.

User

Just got back from a really lovely holiday at Golden Sands. The accommodation was amazing, my three children and I had a 3 bed caravan which was immaculate. The park itself was clean and not hugely busy so the swimming pool wasn't over crowded. The evening entertainment for kids was great! All the staff were friendly. My 5 year old son especially enjoyed the characters The park is situated close to gorgeous Dawlish Warren beach. I would thoroughly recommend this park to anyone.

User

We have just returned from a lovely long family weekend away at golden sands.

We arrived a little early but were given the keys to check into our caravan. We booked a gold plus 3 bed caravan which was lovely and spacious, clean and fully equipped with everything we needed (with the exception of towels and tea towels) which we brought along with us. We found the site itself clean and tidy.

The kids loved the pool especially as the outdoor pool was opened and we were lucky to have such lush weather to enjoy it.

The entertainment for the kids was fab, we only ever stayed at the venue for an hour or two as the kids were so tired by about 8pm but thoroughly enjoyed it while we were there. A bit pricey for drinks but that’s the same at most parks really.

All in all we had a lovely time and would return again. X

User

We have just had a 4 night stay here and we really enjoyed ourselves.. only down side we had was when arriving on Monday to check in at 2pm as we were told on the phone we then find out check in is at 4.. we managed to entertain the kids in the pool which was good.. we asked to be close to the clubhouse due to having two disabled people with us and sure enough this happened.. the staff were friendly enough and even got to know our drinks order etc.. we will return again next year for another break

User

We have just came back from a lovely 4 night stay with you and we had the best time. Only issue we had was that we didnt get our keys till quite late and linen was even later. Bar staff (lethaniel?) In particular was very good to us and prompt in his work and my kids idolised Emma and Frankie (park stars). Stay was even more special as our son Christian won the talent show and won us a free holiday in Oct for the finals woohoo looking forward to coming back then. Just one request... any chance bottom toilets down by park could be open to all as a long way back if desperate haha we were told only for campsite?? Thanks to all at Golden Sands!!

User

We have just arrived home from a lovely 5 day stay at Golden Sands. I’m not one to write reviews but feel, after reading all the awful ones, it was a very unfair representation of the park.

Accommodation was very clean, there was no bad smells (as is often the case in chalets) and for a bronze package was way above what we expected. There was a welcome pack with essentials in left for us and plenty of information given on arrival about location and activities both onsite and local area.

We didn’t sleep well the first night as our mattress was very springy. First thing, I went up to speak to the lovely lady on reception who was very apologetic and said she would have it sorted straight away. By bed time we had a new mattress and extra pillows with fresh sheets.

Nothing seemed like too much trouble in the site, staff asked if we were ok (even coming to the door to see how we were and if we needed anything) and always tried to help quickly and efficiently whenever asked. Plus they were extremely friendly, polite and smiley!

Location is excellent - beach 5 minutes away and loads of things to do and see within a half hour drive. It’s a really good base point to explore!

We didn’t really see much of the entertainment but what we did see was well run, and suited both adults and kids. Something that isn’t easy to do in

Itself! Yes it’s a little cheesy but it’s primarily a park for families with kids so I’m not sure what people expect?!? There was LOADS on to do with the kids, we just got lucky with the weather so didn’t really need to use it.

Pool wasn’t the largest but both parts were open (indoor and outdoor) manned by lifeguards. When it did get too busy a band system was put in place. As a mum I’d much rather this than them let in too many people and put my children at risk. Personally I think this shows just how much the park care and try to give EVERYONE a good safe holiday!

Wouldn’t hesitate to return here, in fact would love to!

Don’t believe everything you read. Sadly I think some people enjoy a good moan (don’t we all) but sadly it seems at the expense of others and their businesses. Keep up the great work guys...and thank you for a wonderful holiday!

User

The hoilday is what you make it! We all had a lovely time. The cleaners were 40 minutes late finishing but beds were made and apart from a dirty glass in the cupboard and a water bottle under the sofa bed it was fine. We brought cleaning materials anyway. We didn’t use the evening entertainment just because it wasn’t our scene and the pool on our site was small so we used the bigger one on the sister site. Any staff we encountered were friendly. I would deffo recommend staying here (off-peak anyway, no way i could afford it during the summer hols) and it was a nice walk to the beach even if the weather wasn’t grand. A holiday is what you make it and we were more than happy with ours :-) oh, the only downside about our caravan, especially as it being a gold plus was the lack of plug sockets! A double socket behind the television and a single socket in the two double rooms. And that was it!

User

Really enjoyed our stay,

only a couple of downsides...

1) damp & mould but to be honest the chalet did what we wanted it for......bed at night

2) guest letting dogs poo around play area & not picking it up

3) music was way too loud in the clubhouse, so sadly only went in one night for 20mins

Other than that a great holiday, we will be back

Thank you to the lovely blonde receptionist who was lovely.

User

Just returned from a 3nt break and was presently. Bronze caravan and it was “no frills” but thats fine, with a 6yo in tow, I don’t expect to spend much time indoors. Full marks to the entertainment, really good for all ages and I was roped in to various games by my daughter. Only tried the bar menu and food was okay. Pool nice and only grips were the amusement area, which was tired and a little unloved and rather selfish fellow holidayers who need 1000db volume at 1am in the morning. Staff were cheerful. Was pleasantly surprised and have done many caravan holidays. Will return hopefully in October half term.

User

The Park itself is great . The pool is fantastic. Very clean & looked after by lifeguards. The kids loved swimming from the inside to the outside .

The entertainment was really good , they are a fantastic team & kept us dancing .

The amusement s though were quite disappointing, quite a few machines & games were out of order.

Our accommodation was really poor . We were staying in a silver plus pet caravan . We have never taken our dog away with us before . We weren’t expecting the Hilton , but it really was quite tatty . We did expect it to be a lot nicer . The curtains were hanging off most windows, & when we opened them , the bedroom ones came off in your hand . The carpet in the lounge was tatty around the edges . Very tired all over . The cooker was a waste of time , it took 1h 20 min to cook a frozen pizza ! Not enough baking trays to cook with either . It was clean which was a bonus . There were a lot nicer vans on the site , but I guess we had the dog . Shame the caravan let the park down .

User

Checked in today (check in should have given us a clue to how the rest of the day went) Booked a GOLD plus caravan and dread to think what the lower vans are like if this is gold! Before we could even bring our things inside we had to clean the floor. The spare duvet for the sofa bed was marked and dirty (not brave enough to check the ones on the beds) reported all issues for reception to be told there was nothing they could do! And that house keeping would pop over .... a new duvet was left and that was it!! Massive shame as the facilities, food and entertainment have been fab .... really is a shame we won’t be visiting again!!

User

Right wher do I start... This place.. Me and a friend stayed in a caravan last week for the week well we was working away. First of all I found mould in most rooms black mould let me add skittles that looked like they had been ther a while ther was piss stains under the sofa cushion. Cups are dirty and thers no tea or coffee.. That's what I can rember of the crappervan then on site they have a fishing lake or so it seed its got 4 pegs on it and its a big puddle with small fish in... Then the swimming pool shuts at 5 we finished work at 5 so never got to use it. Shops all shut early as well then the bar omg unless your 8 avoid it.. It's to much in ther noise wise.. And every wher you look thers fat people all most every couple that was in ther.. Poor chairs.. And the ginger lad at the bar was giving out alcohol free cider when he clearly knew we wanted alcohol.. Abuse of power if you ask me and most the staff are chubby felt like I was at fat fighter's camp.. How ever all was not lost thanks to a lovely little camp site called lady mile witch is next door has all you need shops and pool open later they have every think on site and ther pub atmosphere is so much better and ther staff are much nicer.. And they have sucrity on site and better parking if you want a nice camp site on dawlish then lady mile is the place... Happy holidays fu*k£rs

User

Please don't go here . We checked in and out on the same day. Bird poo inside. something brown and suspicious on the curtains.Curtains mouldy. A lot of broken furniture which was sharp and dangerous. Filthy dirty. Smelled. Cobwebs all over. The electric heater was exposing the insides and looked like it had previously actually caught on fire. The inside of the microwave was rusty!!! how could you prepare food in that !

This was a silver plus caravan and NOT a sun holiday. Management agreed with everything we said and offered refund. However have to wait days for it. Couldn't find anywhere else to stay for the amount of people so had to drive home again.

I have pictures to prove everything I have said and reported to environmental health. see pictures in comments

Our fourth year here and will not be back for a fifth, gone downhill massively, bar staff are sullen and unfriendly, entertainment ( if it can be called that) is now the worst I have come across in the 30 years plus we have been doing holidays parks.

User

Only giving 1 star as no zero option. On arrival, blood on the toilet lid, urine around the floor/rim of toilet with pubic hair stuck to it, stains all over the damp sofa, fireplace didn't work, half the hob didn't work, rusty items in bathroom, hundreds of cigarette butts surrounding accomodation, staff with poor attitude, noise from clubhouse until gone 11pm, could hear every word from accommodation . This was a Gold Plus, apparently the highest grade they have. After all this (and more), we were offered no empathy and had to be very persistent to get anything resolved. Won't be returning or recommending this park.

Got there Friday to camp reception staff unfriendly

Camping field on a hill very few flat pitches

Toilets n showers disgusting

Shop disappointing

2 staff on breakfast shift the food poor value for money

Swimming pool tiny compared to picture and very overcrowded

Hygiene throughout the place poor

Very disappointed !!!

User

First of all, the 1* indicates we hated our long weekend. We didn’t hate it all, just mainly the accommodation:

- Front door sticks

- Damp throughout the chalet

- Odd smell coming from seating area

- Exposed pipework throughout

- Skirting boards and walls dirty

- Walls chipped and marked

- A hole in the double bedroom’s door had been poorly filled in and not sanded down

- Cobwebs throughout

- Ripped bed linen

- Old air fresheners hanging everywhere but made no impact on musty smell

- Whatever was on top of the wardrobe in the twin room was filthy. We wanted to use something for the floor in case our son fell out of bed (which he did) but this item was inappropriate.

Whilst we appreciate this was a Sun holiday booking and was very reasonably priced, there are a lot of things listed here which we believe are down to general cleanliness and should be undertaken as a matter of course. Some could also cause serious safety hazards (e.g. exposed pipework could be hot). This chalet required extreme modernisation. We never raised this when we arrived as the week before they tried to move us, so we knew they didn’t have room. Rightly or wrongly, it seemed pointless to raise this as we didn’t think anything could be done about it. They also ran out of food the on Sunday evening!

This complaint has been emailed to the park. Finally they responded but they just agreed with what I’d said and merely paid lip service to the whole thing. I responded stating this but have heard nothing now for over a month. Shocking and we won’t be returning.

User

DON’T GO HERE!

We arrived on Friday morning 24th August at 8 am for a three night stay. We checked in at 2pm having paid for early check in, this was very easy and smooth.

We found it difficult at first to find our ‘apartment’ as the number on the key didn’t match any numbers on the map that we were given.

Upon entering the apartment, the first thing that we noticed was the smell of wet dog/feet, it was simply unbearable so we had to spray perfume to mask it.

The apartment was unclean and my son’s bed had a lot of mould underneath it on the walls and skirting (which he is allergic to).

The toilet smelt damp, the shower obviously hadn’t been cleaned as was covered in blond hair (none of us are blond) the television didn’t work very well and the tap water tasted of chlorine.

The carpet was coming up in the living room, The was a dent in the bathroom door, the window sills were dirty. The double bed sunk in the middle so that my wife and I kept rolling in to the middle of the bed which was very uncomfortable.

The main issue we have though is the mould which we didn’t notice until Sunday morning. My son had been complaining that he felt unwell on the Saturday night and we just thought that he was under the weather. But after deciding that we couldn’t bear to stay another night we were checking that we had left nothing behind and upon looking under my son’s bed (the one under the window) we noticed the mould and there was a lot of it. We then realised that this may be the reason for my son feeling unwell.

We paid for three nights but could only bear to stay for two due to the unsatisfactory accommodation provided.

I did complain to a lady on reception upon leaving but she just quietly said ‘I’m sorry about that’ and offered no attempt to rectify the situation. I also sent an email to complain but am yet to even receive acknowledgment of my complaint after a week and several phone calls.

Overall a terrible place to stay and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

User

Been here once before and had a great time, this time however it all seems a bit tired and dated.

Our ‘apartment’ was very tired and grubby, the corner sofa was hard and uncomfortable, we only had little pouffe stools to sit on round the table and the shower was so tiny you could hardly turn round or wash in it.

The on site shop is only open till 6pm so if you arrive after that it’s another car journey to a store.

The pool closes at 5pm so no chance of a late dip, on a gorgeous day it would be nice if it was open later. We had paid for our 2 dogs to come to (£50) £25 each for 3 nights which is very expensive given that we were only given bronze accommodation and it was the poorest quality we have ever stayed in.

Don’t think we’ll be returning to this site I’d rather pay a bit more and get a cottage with decent beds, comfy furniture and a proper table and chairs.

Come on Park holidays sort out your accommodation, and prices. Stop ripping off the customer.
