In Spanish, ‘pura vida’ translates to ‘pure life’. The phrase is an inherent element of the Costa Rican way of life.
It encapsulates: no worries; no stress; and not dwelling on the negatives. It’s not a surprise, then, that Costa Rica has on many occasions been voted as one of the happiest nations in the world!
You’ll often hear our participants using the saying while on base in Quepos!

Cusco is the oldest continuously inhabited city in South America, so it’s bursting with meaningful travel experience.
Translating to the Sacred Valley, El Valle Sagrado is one spectacular location accessible from Cusco. Lying in the foothills of the Andes, its trails offer some of the best way to see the sights of valley, weaving village, markets and Inca citadels.

Khao Sok National Park is one place to escape the crowds of Thailand, to find some peace and quiet.
The park is known for its towering Karst formations, which dominates the surrounding skyline. It is believed that some remnants of the rainforest dates back to over 160 million years, which makes it one of the oldest tropical evergreens in the world. What a location!

The Badge of Ethics represents a continual striving for ethical best practice. It’s us saying: we will lead the way in adopting the ideal of doing good, better. Growing and reflecting and then growing some more. Being open and transparent about the mistakes we’ve made. Learn more about the Badge of Ethics here: https://www.gvi.co.uk/badge-of-ethics/
Our goal for our Badge of Ethics is for it to grow beyond GVI, and take on a meaning of its own. We hope, one day, that this badge will grace the websites of all those travel agencies, volunteer organisations, NGOs, and hospitality providers who would commit to practicing ethicality at its most advanced level.

We’ll be the first to admit that our program fees can be a little pricey. We offer high quality, highly ethical, fully sustainable programs. We also have incredibly well-trained GVI staff at every location, and we invest a lot into training all of our participants.
To support people who want to join our programs, we have developed a fundraising platform, as well as this list of ideas on how to fundraise: https://www.gvi.co.uk/…/16-best-fundrai sing-ideas-voluntee…/

Community education and wildlife conservation are inseparable. Communities interact with their environments, and the best sustainable way to ensure conservation is to educate local people on why to love their ecosystems and how to protect them.
Our staff and participants in Limpopo, South Africa, regularly do educational workshops or otherwise assist local schools in the area. They also do fun things like taking students on through the local nature reserves, to inspire a love for wildlife in young people. Here in this video we see a glimpse of the relationship GVI staff and participants have with local schools.
