About Hgp Architects

For five decades HGP Architects has helped shape the built-landscape in the South of England with architecture as inspired as it is hard working.

Hgp Architects Description

We believe context is all important. It’s not just about how people live with a building, it’s how that building lives in its environment. From iconic landmarks to the conservation of buildings that have seen centuries of living, it’s what makes our approach different.

For five decades HGP Architects has helped shape the built-landscape in the South of England with architecture as inspired as it is hard working.

When you bring us your project, we see the big picture. And we hold in our vision your goals and the needs of your end users.

In the search to expand their premises, HGP were commissioned by a local business to transform a brownfield site in Hove into a new contemporary development comprising of 56 apartments which sit over a new office space.
The challenge here was to overcome several contextual constraints and the resulting design is a culmination of lateral thinking whilst maintaining a clear urban design response. The design not only compliments the existing streetscape but also enhances the local vernacular with a selection of high-quality materials and crisp architectural details.

Members of the management team joined The Trident Forum’s annual dinner in the magnificent HMS Nelson Wardroom to celebrate their 20th Anniversary.
The Trident Forum is a network sponsored by professional advisors who specialise in working within the marine industry. The sponsors are BDO, Blake Morgan, HGP Architects, Propernomics, Royal Haskoning, and Vail Williams.
This year’s guest speaker, Captain IW Greenless, delivered a presentation about his journey within the Royal ...Navy which started in 1976. The highlight of his career was being in command of a Type 22 frigate, HMS London, from 1996-98. On promotion, he became Captain of the Base at Portsmouth in 2005 and later took on leadership of Naval Base Infrastructure & Transformation teams, shaping then delivering the joint MOD and Industrial development of the Naval Base for the Queen Elizabeth Class and the Future Navy 2020. Retiring from the Royal Navy in December 2015, he joined the Civil Service in the New Year and returned to the Base to complete the aircraft carrier development programme.

HGP have enjoyed a second successful study trip in as many years.
HGP staff were treated to an in depth study tour, guided by BAW (Barcelona Architecture Walks) and had the opportunity to appreciate many of the city’s iconic architectural works. Including architecture essentials: The German (Barcelona) Pavilion, Sagrada Familia, Casas Batllo and Mila, Park Guell and The Nou Camp Stadium!

We certainly celebrated our milestone anniversary of 50 years in style.
Employees and their families spent all day and evening at Festi-Five-O in the idyllic setting in Droxford, enjoying food and drinks throughout the day, four amazing live bands, lawn games, sports days for both the children and adults! Face painting, a bouncy castle, and a lot of relaxing and socialising in the shade away from the hot summer sun.
Here’s to the next 50….

HGP secured planning for a housing scheme to build 133 homes across two sites in Bordon, Hampshire. Bordon is currently undergoing substantial regeneration as the MOD released land for development, with the Prince Philip Barracks influencing the character and structure for each area of the town.
The two sites fall within ‘Woodland Cluster’ zones defining each site as a separate cluster set within the existing woodland. Both will have a distinct communal core – a place where residents can meet, children can play and communal life is encouraged. Both sites are a mixture of 3, 4, and 5 bed houses with a focus on family dwellings.

Managing Director of HGP Architects, Guy Goodman, took part in this year’s Brighton2Brussels Charity Cycle Ride – raising money for local charities, which included: Albion in the Community, The Clock Tower Sanctuary, The Martlets Hospice, RISE and the Sussex Heart Charity.
This year’s ride took on a unique starting point from 450ft in the air at the Brighton i360 where the cyclists completed 40 laps around the pod to complete a “mile in the sky”. The cyclists then continued their challenge in Brussels where over the course of three days rode through Aalst, Oudenaarde, Bruges, Ypres, Lille then finally crossing the finish line back in Brighton.
The Brighton2Brussels Charity Bike Ride has raised over £50,000 so far this year! Congratulations to all who participated!

HGP have recently submitted plans for the redevelopment of Haslar Marina which includes plans for: • A New team base and racing facility for Alex Thomson Racing (Round the world yachtsman) • A New Marine engine and powerboat workshop facility • New Boats Sales unit • 10 Independent Yacht stores... • Slipway improvements • Shoreline stabilisation including a new Pedestrian seafront walk • New Bar / Restaurant and Deck • New Office building for Dean and Reddyhoff. • Major extension to the marina.
The Alex Thomson Racing Team has been based at Haslar Marina for over 15 years and if planning permission is granted, Gosport will be secured as the team’s headquarters for the foreseeable future and their upcoming Vendee Globe 2020 campaign. The base will become a UK centre of excellence for ocean racing and will include a world-class boat facility, offices, training facilities and a visitor gallery which will allow the public to engage with the team.
In addition HGP have assisted in the extensive redevelopment of the marina and the creation of a new wave screen to the marina berths, which would see the addition of 50 new deep water moorings for larger boats and new wave break pontoons to provide more sheltered berthing in the north part of the marina. Further enhancements include the new clubhouse and office buildings, which will feature a new waterfront location for the marina bar-restaurant.
As well as the new services that will be offered, it is expected that the proposed development will create an additional 50 jobs on-site.
