Hms Vivid

About Hms Vivid

HMS Vivid is the Royal Naval Reserve Unit based in the Southwest. Entry is open to men and women aged 16-40 (45 if ex-RN. )

Hms Vivid Description

HMS Vivid has been the Plymouth Royal Naval Reserve unit since 1959. Our reservists benefit immensely from belonging to a unit which is based within the largest Naval Base in Western Europe, HM Naval Base Devonport. This provides excellent training opportunities, giving them the chance to see the Royal Navy at work.

Today we remember the Battle of Trafalgar.
On 21st Oct 1805 the Royal Navy led by Admiral Lord Nelson defeated the combined Fleets of the French and the Spanish.
Nelson’s devastating victory was that rarest of achievements in Naval warfare - a truly strategic, decisive victory affording the Royal Navy complete freedom of manoeuvre around the periphery of Napoleon’s empire. It was this freedom that would, in the ensuing years, allow the British to deploy and sustain their for...ces - and those of her allies - across Europe. Wellington and Napoleon alike would come to recognise the role of Sea power in first halting the advance of the French Grand Armée and ultimately in setting the conditions for Napoleon’s final defeat. To the immortal memory of Horatio, Viscount Nelson, Duke of Bronte and Vice Admiral of the White, and to those who fell with him. “The immortal memory”
