About Hythe Squadron Air Training Corps

2495 (Hythe) Squadron - We are a very active ATC Squadron participating in loads of fun Activities from Flying to Duke of Edinburgh's Expedition.

Hythe Squadron Air Training Corps Description

Ready for a challenge?
As a cadet you'll have the opportunity to do things that others only dream about. Want real flight experience? No problem. How about heading out on adventurous training and camps, sometimes overseas? Normal for cadets. Competitive sports, Drill, Target Rifle Shooting, Music, Abseiling, Engineering projects? Our list of activities is long, varied and open to all cadets. Yes it's a challenge, but that's what life's all about.

Get a head start
We are NOT a recruiting organisation for the RAF but if you're thinking about a Service career, cadet membership will put you ahead of the competition. Many cadets go on to great success in the RAF (and the other Services). Around 40% of officers and 50% of all aircrew (including pilots, navigators and engineers) in the RAF now are ex-cadets. Research shows that they do better in basic training and stay in the Service longer than their colleagues. Likewise, if you chose a civilian career our research proves you can go on the great things…employers just love the skills and experience that air cadets offer.

Let's face it - where else would you be given the opportunity to fly solo in a glider or powered aircraft when you're 17? Whatever you do with your life, at the end of your time as a cadet you'll be self-motivated, confident and ready for anything.

Happy LGBT History Month! South West Region’s LGBT Representative, Civilian Instructor Jayne Ede, was delighted to join our new Wing LGBT Advisers, CI Brown and our Cadet Warrant Officer Maynard, at 1216 Eastleigh Squadron this evening on one of their workshops. She said: “I was so encouraged by our young people, their passion for fairness and inclusion and the support they have for each other.” 🏳️‍🌈
LGBT History Month is a time to celebrate individual differences and to re-energise our focus towards the advancement of inclusion in the RAF Air Cadets.

On the 5 Feb 1941 King George VI agreed to be the Air Commodore-in-Chief and issued a Royal Warrant that set the aims of the Air Training Corps, which remain today, these are;
To promote and encourage among young men and women a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force. To provide training which will be useful in both the services and civilian life. To foster a spirit of adventure and to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship.
... We are currently recruiting new cadets (in Year 8 and under 18) and volunteer staff (Over 20) if you interested in joining us please get in touch to find out more.

Yesterday some of our cadets expanded their skills up at our Wing Headquarters completing a Cadet Method of Instruction training day and attending the wing band practice!
3 of our cadet NCOs are now well on their way to soon being able to teach their peers both on and off squadron after their day at wing HQ; Cpl Scudder remarked the course was "very intuitive as well as being inclusive for everyone. All of the staff were very helpful and it was a wonderful experience."
Also, ...our Cadet Warrant Officer went to the monthly wing band practice, aiding in the training of new drummers and percussionists to the band as well as expanding her own skills in learning the bell lyre!
Overall a very productive Sunday! #whatwedo Check out how to get involved on our Facebook page!

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

This month our Cadet Warrant Officer got the amazing opportunity to go to Cyprus with other members of Royal Air Force Air Cadets from around the country.
On this camp she got to do activities including climbing, walking, go-karting, watersports, visiting RAF Akrotiri and obtaining a PADI scuba diving qualification with Kembali Diving in Cyprus all in just under a week, as well as social activities such as a boat trip and time to explore in Paphos and bowling with the local cadet squadron on the Island.
This camp is available to all cadets that join our Squadron and for more information to get involved drop us a message. #whatwedo

It's been a busy week for the Squadron, last Sunday we hosted cadets from across Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Royal Air Force Air Cadets to complete Initial Weapons Training on the Cadet Small Bore Target Rifle.
Yesterday we were at RAF Odiham conducting Live Fire Marksmanship Training, with 18 of those who attended achieving their Bronze Trained Shot Badge, for many of these cadets it was their first shooting experience and even the weather couldn't stop them having a great time!

On 20 August 1940, Prime Minister Winston Churchill said "Never was so much owed by so many to so few"
Today on Battle of Britain Day, cadets and staff from the Squadron took part in the service at St Johns Church to commemorate the few.

It was a busy weekend for us, with CWO Maynard making history by being the first Royal Air Force Air Cadets to march as part of the Royal Air Force contingent at Pride in London on Saturday.
Sunday was Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Royal Air Force Air Cadets Activities Day with the cadets competing against other local Squadrons. We've even came away with some silverware winning the overall Music competition. #NoOrdinaryHobby
