I am a fully qualified and licensed therapist practising in Swedish Massage, Pregnancy Massage and Reflexology using hot stone therapy from my therapy room at Westgate House, Gloucester.

Swedish Massage is also known as the Classic Massage. With the use of oils to create friction and stretch the muscles comfortably ( Grapeseed and Apricot Kernel oils are used to avoid any nut allergies) a variation of 5 massage techniques are used to achieve relaxation and to help the muscles work properly. If you are feeling fatigued, exhausted, or feeling discomfort in the joints getting a massage can help alleviate the aches and pains. The massage can be adapted to your needs from a 1 /2 hour back and shoulder massage to a full body massage which lasts for 1 hour.

Pregnancy Massage also known as Prenatal and post natal massage and is extremely beneficial in the mid-late stages of your pregnancy and once your baby is born as your body settles back into its pre pregnancy state. The massage generally lasts an hour, depending on how tired you are and can be performed sitting up against the massage bed or lying on your side on the couch supported by wedge and cushions. This is a very comfortable and relaxing way to lie whilst being massaged (even if you're not pregnant! ) Massage pre and post pregnancy can have multiple positive effects such as reducing anxiety, decreased back and leg pain, Improved sleep, decreased levels of the stress hormone norepinephrine and an overall improvement of mood.

Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on the principle that there are areas and points on the feet, hands that map via the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body. When pressure is applied to these areas and points it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels, and helps to restore homeostasis (balance) in the whole body. All the systems need to be working together well to maintain a healthy balance. Stress, injury, or illness can cause the balance to be disrupted when component parts are less effective. Problems can then be compounded by the fact that the rest of the body works harder to compensate, potentially causing problems in other components.

It can boost a sluggish circulation and is useful for treating stress, anxiety, back pain, migraine, poor digestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), respiratory problems, asthma, headache, bladder problems, menopausal symptoms and period pain. Reflexology is particularly effective with fertility issues, pregnancy anxiety, helping with onset of labour and post natal balancing of body and hormones. It is a very safe treatment but will be avoided in the first trimester.

The treatment, including initial medical consultation and questionnaire lasts for 1 hour. Clothes are left on during the treatment. Course of treatments can vary according to what disturbances are showing in the body but normally can be 4-6 initial treatments to bring the body to homeostasis then a maintenance programme advised every 4-6 weeks.

You would expect to feel incredibly relaxed and 'clean' after the treatment and could experience a range of symptoms in the subsequent 24-48 hours, especially after the first treatment, from high energy to low mood, tenderness in muscles to improved sleep. All of these will disappear very quickly with no ill effect. Over a period of 2-3 sessions you should experience an improvement in many areas.
