As you may know, this year I am growing a moustache in support of the Movember Foundation. They are a charity that works to raise both funds and awareness for men's health issues. This includes prostate and testicular cancer and mental health issues and suicide prevention.
I would like to thank those of you who have already donated either online or via the collection tins at my Romsey and Andover clinics.
If you would like to give and haven't yet done so, you can make an on...line donation via the link below. Alternately pop into my work and pop some pennies in one of the tins.

And for those of you who have seen my slow growing facial hair over the last two weeks, here is an updated picture of me admiring the 'tache'.
Thanks for your support.

Phase one of 'Movember' is well on the way (grow some hair). Soon we will be onto phase two, choosing a style. If you have any ideas on the type of 'mo' I should go for let me know.
If you would like to support me and the fabulous Movember Foundation with all the work they do for mens health issues please donate via the link below.

This year I will be doing the simple thing of growing a moustache to raise both funds and awareness of men's health issues. If you would like to support me with this please donate either via the Movember page link or in person in the collection tins at Ingarm Osteopaths, 45 Charlton Road. Thank you for all your support. For those of you struggling with heavy bags, this may be the answer. This new design of backpack reduces the strain on your back by allowing some of the compressive forces to be taken through the glide within the frame.

This year I will be supporting the Movember Foundation and hope to raise money to support men's health. If you would like to support me in this very worthy cause, please donate to my page online or via the collection tin at Ingram Osteopaths at 45 Charlton Road. Thanks, Tony.

Almost every year I have had a call from a patient with back pain as a result of lifting a turkey in or out of the oven.
Unfortunately with most ovens being floor standing, we have to bend quit low and reach over the open door and into the oven. This, in it self, is a generally weak position for the back. Then add the weight of the dish and it really can be a recipe for disaster for your back.
So how can we reduce this risk whilst lifting our Christmas dinner? Most of us ha...ve heard the advise of keeling your back straight and bending your knees, and the same applies here. Try to stand as close to the open oven door as this will minimilise the distance of the reach into the oven to place the dish on the rack. Try to keep your back straight and bend from your hips and knees. Make sure you have a good grip on the roasting tin too, while ensuring you're not burning yourself. Good oven gloves will help as if you are rushing the movement as your hands heat up then you may loose elements of control in the movement. And if you are cooking a feast for a very large gathering and the weight is too much for you, ask for help.
I hope this helps you stay pain free this festive period.
From all of us at Ingram Osteopaths we hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

To get the best out of your core rehab and training ditch the sit ups.
In recent years there has been a lot of research showing that sit ups put a lot of load upon the lower spine and discs. As a result this may not be the best way for you to train your core, especially if you are trying to do so to help with lower spinal control and pain.
Many of us have been told that our core muscles are weak and the result is increase strain and load on our backs. This may very well be t...rue as our core muscles not only control our lower spinal and pelvic posture, but also provide a static point for full body movements. As a result weakness in the core muscles may lead to pain within the lower back area.
So in stead of sit ups there are many other ways I would advise someone to rehab and work their core muscles. Here are three of my favourites. They will give most people a good basis and allow them to take there training further, if wanted.
If you are suffering with lower back pain and are not sure if this is appropriate for you please speak to your practitioner who can advise you for your specific needs.
If you would like an appointment with myself please call my office where my reception can make all the arrangements.

One issue that I see a lot of is muscle pain in the neck and shoulders caused by poor posture. Although there are many possible underlying causes to this, one problem area is through control of the shoulders and upper back.
Unfortunately with PC use and hand held devices being part of life, we have a tendency to overwork the front of the shoulders in comparison to the back. This causes a shortening of the anterior muscles resulting in rounded shoulders, a curved upper back an...d extended neck. This in turn results in postural strain of the posterior muscles and may cause pain in the area.
So I have gone through a few exercises to work to stretch the front, strengthen the back and generally work with overall functional ability and balance through the region.
If you do try these exercises please be aware that they are quite strong and to only work to your limits. If you have any issues please speak to me or another practitioner prior to continuing.
For further information please call our clinic or book an appointment.
Thanks Tony Stokes

Very genuine and caring. I have been going to Tony for treatment for a few years now. This time with tendinopathy. I won't use anyone else. Highly recommend.

User

Tony first treated a dislocated rib - diagnosed by him, not the GP who referred me for shoulder issues. He fixed it instantly. So years later when I developed an issue with my back I ignored the GP (who prescribed pain killers and told me to wait it out), and went straight to him. I hobbled in (almost in tears) and walked out (smiling)! Amazing. Tony is a miracle worker in my eyes!!!

User

I have total confidence in Tony. He put me at ease and helped with thoracic muscle tension. He's knowledge is amazing and support is fab! No dead hands this morning. Thank you!

User

I have been treated by Tony a couple of times. His sessions are first-rate. I would strongly recommend him to anyone, from a little niggle to more serious joint or back pain.

User

I have been seeing Tony on and off for the past 10 years. He’s always very professional. All treatments are very professional. I would recommend the acupuncture.

User

Highly recommend Tony every time someone asks. He's worked his magic on me several times and also helped my daughter who was in excruciating pain with multiple symptoms, that severe the physiotherapist didn't want to touch her. She had knee & back pain and hyper sensitivity. Having acupuncture from Tony and receiving some much needed advice was most definitely the start of her recovery.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I've been going to Tony for years. Initially for my headaches. After years of suffering with 5 different types of headaches/migraines, numerous pills, I kid you not after 5 treatments with Tony I was headache free - changed my life. No more pills and I go for a top up once to twice a year.

Have also been to have my ribs popped back in and for my sciatic nerve that had subsequently caused me to damage my back/ hip. Again 2 sessions and was like new. Thank you!!
