Karelia Holidays Description
Situated on the edge of the New Forest and close to the south coast, our five cottages stand in four acres of tranquil mature woodland. There are many colourful rhododendrons and azaleas which look particularly beautiful in the Spring and early Summer.
Our land offers direct access to the Ringwood forest that means cycling, hiking and wildlife watching are literally on the doorstep. Many species of birds make their home with us and often deer, rabbits and squirrels are sighted.
Karelia Holidays was instigated by Helena and Richard Gleed. Helena was a Finnish national when she came to England as an au pair. She grew up in Finland where many families have summer homes set in natural surroundings often beside a lake. Because of this influence, the idea of bringing these traditional log houses and a piece of Finland to Ringwood was borne. These days it is continued to be run by Richard's sons and their families.

PANNAGE SEASON
PIGS OF THE NEW FOREST - PANNAGE
Why not book a weekend away at Karelia Holidays and watch the pigs! Pannage is the practice of releasing domestic pigs into a forest (also known as ‘Common of mast’), Pannage is no longer carried out in many areas but can still be observed every year here in the New Forest National Park. In the autumn after the acorns, beechmast, chestnuts and other nuts have fallen, the pigs will work their way through the forest eating them from the forest f...loor.
You can usually find the pigs roaming the forest floors from around the third week in September or whenever the acorns begin to drop from the beautiful trees. The exact Pannage dates are decided by the New Forest Verderers and the Forestry Commission and is based on seasonal variations. The 2015 Pannage season is from 14th September to 20 December.

The New Forest Walking Festival is back this autumn from 17 October to 1 November, www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/walkingfestival.< br> It’s the perfect opportunity for our guest to discover ancient woodlands, wild heaths, free roaming pigs and ponies under the guidance of local experts.
The Walking Festival has doubled in size to 80 guided wildlife walks, history hikes, family adventures and activity walks across the Forest. Many walks are also free or discounted for people who travel by bus, train, bike or on foot.

We had a brilliant stay in Rose cottage.Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen for a week stay. Brilliant location to visit everything the New Forest has to offer. Great amenities nearby,activities for the kids on site and the great Finnish sauna experience!
We found Karelia in June and have already been twice, if you're looking for an idyllic slice of nature while having a clean and comfy cabin, this is ideal! Would thoroughly recommend!!

The location is beautiful we loved our stay, the hot tub had just been installed and it was amazing!

Relaxing, restful, lovely surroundings, comfortable accomodation, helpful hosts - thoroughly recommended. We live locally and checked in whilst builders were ripping out and replacing our kitchen. After 4 days, we really didn't want to leave! ..and already missing the nights on the veranda of Larelia Cottage with the log fire burning.
My son and his wife booked here for the long weekend, so we were near to the wedding venue, Moors Valley, we had the most wonderful stay, the cabins were so clean, the atmosphere so peaceful, the children enjoyed the pool, the grown ups the hot tub, it was all magical, such a beautiful setting, defiantly want to return, thank you, just love this place, look forward to our next visit xxx

Have been twice now and hoping to come back again this year. Hosts bend over backwards for us, beautiful surroundings, kids love the lodges. A really magical place.
Fabulous cosy place to stay full of character surrounded by miles of Woodland.
Amazing holiday in Rose cottage. so chilled and peaceful, but with lots of activities very local. Owners always available, nothing to much hassle very kind and welcoming.
Kids really enjoyed the outdoors and the swimming pool.
Would highly recommend and looking forward to visiting again.
