Kat Clarke - Chartered Physiotherapist & Animal Physiotherapist Description

About Kat Clarke Physiotherapy:

Kat is an animal Physiotherapist treating horses, dogs and other small animals in their own environment, travelling to Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire areas. Kat is also available for canine clinic appointments at Animal Rehabilitation Clinic, Westerleigh, Bristol. Kat qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2015 and completed her Masters project, with distinction, in Canine Rehabilitation techniques. Kat is also a human physiotherapist and qualified in 2007. She worked in a variety of NHS roles rotating through musculoskeletal, respiratory and neurological areas. Working in the human field gave Kat many transferrable skills to enhance her animal practice, including anatomy knowledge, detailed objective assessments and strong clinical reasoning. Kat maintains her human skills through private practice, specialising in Neurological Paediatrics.

Kat is fully registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC), a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), is registered with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapy in Animal Therapy (ACPAT) as a Category A member and carries professional liability insurance. This extensive list of regulating bodies ensures that safe, high quality and up to date evidence is utilised when treating your animals.

Kat has a love and passion for working with and being around animals. Kat has always had family dogs and worked with horses as a teenager, she spent most weekend’s poo picking for free rides. Whilst travelling she worked on a horse farm in South Australia which further motivated Kat to specialise in Veterinary Physiotherapy. Now Kat continues to enjoy riding as a casual happy hacker and has rescued Fly, a beautiful collie cross who has become the business mascot, model and physio sidekick! Kat and Fly enjoy agility and obedience training together.

From Human to Animal:

Kat's experience in the human field has been advantageous as hands on therapy techniques are similar in both humans and animals. In addition she has years of gait analysis experience which has transferred well onto 4 limbs. Working with children, she has become used to working with clients who cannot explain their pains and problems, which has transferred well into analysing her animal patients. Additionally she is used to being a part of a multi-disciplinary team and will work hard to communicate and work alongside the other professionals caring for your animal.

Within the human sector physiotherapists often work as a member of a larger team for support with complex cases and for ongoing professional development. For this reason Kat has began to work for fellow ACPAT physiotherapist; Molly Fursman; this ensures they can support each other in difficult cases and provide continued learning and development. Her most exciting new venture is her small animal clinic at the Animal Rehab Clinic in Wapley - working with qualified small animal hydrotherapists.

I am very lucky to work with the fabulous team and wonderful doggies at National Animal Welfare Trust Somerset
Bingo is a 9 month old Saluki who has stolen my heart a little (don't tell Fly!). He has had corrective surgery on his hip as his hip joint did not form properly and used to repeatedly dislocate. Following his surgery he would massively benefit from regular underwater treadmill sessions (alongside his 'on-land' physio programme) to help him learn to use that leg pr...operly, improve his walking pattern and strengthen him up so that he can return to normal puppy business!
If you are able to help, even the smallest amount will send him along the way for his rehab journey. Thank you so much to the people who have already donated - Bingo appreciates your kindness!

My ‘Star’ patient this week! The lovely 12 year old Star 🌟 was my latest recruit from National Animal Welfare Trust Somerset She was benefitting from some soft tissue work to make her more comfortable and a strengthening exercise programme for the fabulous NAWT team to carry out daily with her. She was so clever and willing to practice her exercises - well done Star! 💫 ⭐️ 💫 #rescue #needsahome #star #dogphysio #nawt

I am excited to announce I am now able to offer small animal physio clinic appointments at The Animal Rehab Clinic Ltd
ARC is a hydrotherapy facility situated in Wapley (near Westerleigh) I will be providing my usual 'on land' services - soft tissue release, mobilisations, electrotherapy, strengthening and balance rehabilitation - with the added perk that I am able to closely work with your hydrotherapists to ensure land and water sessions are working towards the same goals ...to provide the best possible treatment for your dogs.
I am still offering home visits ; 5 mile radius of BS15 9QB remains free of charge.
If you would like to be seen in clinic or would like more information then please contact me.
