Amazing artcle in the TES this morning about children's speech, language and communication skils and social mobility, 'The most important factor in reaching the expected levels in English and maths aged 7 is children’s language skills when they are 5. This is greater than the link to poverty or parental education. ' Tis important work we do people - thank goodness for Helicopter Stories! https://www.tes.com/news/key-social-mobil ity-lies-language

Here's a great piece of evidence of self initiated writing from a 4 year old! That urge to write is so strong when you love Helicopter Stories! https://youtu.be/RthrwSmeZOQ

Helicopter Stories with children at a Special Needs School in Havering. So inspiring to learn from such a skilled practitioner. Finding the balance of allowing space and freedom to tell stories unaided and when to give support, is all about intuition and experience.

Every time Zandra growled at me, I repeated her sounds, exactly as she said them, before writing her story down. The pattern went like this, Zandra growled, I growled back. She put her hands over her ears, we smiled at each other, reassuring ourselves that it was just a game.
