About Merlin Ms Centre

A centre of excellence in Cornwall providing a range of expert care, support and therapies to improve the lives of those with Multiple Sclerosis

Merlin Ms Centre Description

Cornwall has one of the highest incidence of MS in the country. The Merlin MS Centre aims to support those living with this incurable condition by offering a range of subsidised clinical and complementary therapies to those whose lives are affected.

The charity is not supported by the government so therefore relies on fundraising, donations, room hire, grants and gifts in memory to continue its work.

The centre offers -

A large relaxing area is available for people to meet and to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. This large area overlooks stunning views of the countryside. Phase two of the centre has also allowed us to build a open-plan kitchen area as well as a shop area.

A large well equipped gymnasium, used principally for physiotherapy. It has up to date equipment which includes just about everything, Levo chair, Anti Gravity Treadmill, medimotion machine, treadmill, parallel bars, Oswestry Standing Frame, wobble boards, physio balls etc.

Lancelot, Guinevere and Arthur. Three multipurpose rooms to accommodate a range of therapies. Rooms can be hired out privately. Please contact the Centre Manager for more details.

Three pressure chambers providing oxygen, (Oxygen Treatment).

A fully equipped conference room is also available for hire

Our Day Respite users are very creative. Some beautiful flower arrangements were made during this craft session. #merlinrespite

There are lots of different ways you can FUN-draise for Merlin and we love sharing your unique stories! A huge thank you to Sharon Parsons and her family for decorating her house this Christmas and by doing so, raising £222.22 for our wonderful charity. Thank you to everyone who visited and especially to those who stopped to donate.

We have just had the cutest visitor (No not our Ellie) but Rolo whose dad is using the Sensory room. Rolo went and met all the service user to give them some much needed dog therapy

Collecting and cycling for Merlin MS Centre today in Tescos Truro is our wonderful supporter Jason! This year Jason is cycling from John O Groats to Landsend as well as Vietnam to Cambodia, all to raise awareness and funds for our charity. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Ja son-Forristal…

January isn’t even over and we are already planning for Christmas. Fundraising Manager Ellie and Fundraising Volunteer Carey took a visit to St Austell Brewery earlier this week and we are delighted to say that they will be hosting a winter fair at the Visitor Centre this year in aid of Merlin MS Centre. Due to the expected popularity of this event we are already taking bookings for stalls. Please contact Ellie Pitt on 01726 885530 or elliepitt@merlinmscentre.org.uk

Wonderful place with fantastic staff! As an MS sufferer the Merlin Centre is invaluable to me.

User

The Merlin is a fabulous place to go with amazing staff and volunteers, everyone is very friendly and never bothered if you ask what feels to be a very trivial question. It's a great place to go for seeing other clients, whatever your health issue, and meeting like minded people.

User

Such an amazing inspirational place/charity to work for :-)

On the occaisions I have visited the Centre I have always found everybody friendly and helpful. I try to regularly attend the Outreach classes in Hayle and really enjoy both sessions and find the social aspect as important as the physical aspect. Thank you ladies for giving me a positive action for Wednesdays. :)

I attended as part of the SWIMS project. It is a wonderful spacious place with calming views friendly staff/volunteers. The facilities are clean and numerous. I have enquired about the Oxygen Therapy as I understand it has brought benefit to an MS colleague. Treatment can be used by MS sufferers, stroke patients and many more. We are so lucky to have this jewel in Cornwall.

At the moment I use Merlin, for HBO, Physiotherapy, Neurological (FES) and Counselling. These I started as I tried to improve my ability to return to work with MS, however I met new friends, also I achieved personal improvement in my health and wellbeing. Meeting these fellow companions in their struggle, I always see and hear from everyone the smiles and laughter. Plus with the support and help from the volunteers and staff I too smile and laugh. Thank you Merlin.

A wonderful place to go, make friends and meet lots of new people who really understand how you feel! Staff are friendly and helpful. I just love it.

User

A very welcoming, positive place to be. We are so very lucky to have the Merlin Centre to use in this county. I have travelled alot and used many other hyperbaric oxygen tanks, from the Orkney Isles in Scotland, Southern Ireland and many other places in between but none of them compare to the facillities we have here at Hew-was-water. Very blessed. Together we will fight and conquer our dragons.XX

User

A truly amazing place, full of wonderful people!

User

A marvellous facility in Cornwall with very dedicated and caring staff.

User

The Merlin Staff, particularly the physio team are extremely helpful and supportive. The other Centre users are friendly and welcoming. I was disappointed in not being able to help with arranging an art auction. False promises should never be offered. However, over all a good place!
