We are thrilled to have been rated ‘Good’ in our recent CQC inspection. The rating of ‘Good’ was given following the inspection by the CQC in June this year. We were rated ‘Good’ in domains including being safe, effective, caring and responsive. The report highlighted that we had improved across a range of areas following our previous inspection in 2016. The CQC are assured of an overall ‘Good’ standard at the hospital. Well done to everyone at the Hospital, it’s a real team effort. Members of the Senior Leadership Team paid a visit to Barry, one of our patients, who has had a Right Uni-Compartmental Knee Replacement at Mount Stuart Hospital. They got into the Halloween festive spirit which has been bought to his room by his lovely wife!

Flu can have serious and even fatal consequences. Mount Stuart staff are being offered their Flu vaccination as their first staff clinic starts today. We hope for a great staff uptake of this vaccination; protecting themselves, but also their family, friends and our patients.

Yesterday Mr Michael Hockings performed a total replacement of my left knee. When he saw me in Recovery afterwards he assured me that all had gone perfectly and that as he removed the old joint it confirmed his diagnosis from earlier X-rays that it certainly needed to be replaced. I cannot speak highly enough of the care which I am receiving from staff in every department, from cleaners and porter through the catering staff, nurses, physiotherapist, pharmacist and medics. I was even visited this morning by the hospital's most charming General Manager, to whom I was delighted to feel able to convey my satisfaction. Dinner last night, cooked breakfast this morning and the lunch I have just enjoyed have been exceptionally tasty - certainly of the highest standard one would expect from a seriously good restaurant, hotel or cruise liner. I am so grateful that we decided to continue our BUPA cover when I retired from a bank nearly 20 years ago. Our premiums have been repaid many times over.

Would like to thank every one at Mount Stuart hospital who took care of me during my knee surgery and recovery ,thank you all so much you've been great , and the food was excellent, the best I've had in hospital. If you are in Bovey anytime call in for a coffee at the Innerlight coffee shop

User

Would just like to say a big thank you, to ALL the staff that looked after me yesterday 4/11/16 for my shoulder operation within your day surgery dept. From arriving early in the morning, to a helpful smiling receptionist right through to leaving in the afternoon, you made my day as relaxed and enjoyable as it is possible to be in hospital.

Thank you all.

Twelve years of limping and grinning and bearing

Then twelve days of screaming and shouting and swearing

The last of the cartilage worn from the joint

So surgery the only choice there at this point

The NHS pathway meant twelve months delay

Suffering agony all night and all day

That shiny new car would just have to wait

Going private meant a much sooner date

The lovely GP said she cannot refer

Unless a surgeon was suggested to her

Friends were asked for the suggestions they’d make

The unanimous cry was “See Stephen Blake”

An appointment was made for a reasonable fee

At Mount Stuart Hospital in lovely Torquay

Mr Blake explained all in his reassuring voice

The decision was made, he was the right choice

Within two weeks, the hip was replaced

The surgery was neat, leg hardly defaced

The very next day, walking the room

The pain a fraction of what you’d assume

The nurses were all you could hope for and more

Care and concern not experienced before

The food was amazing, it should win a prize

With the vegan menu an unexpected surprise

So thank you Mount Stuart, thank you, Mr Blake

The five day stay was a relaxing break

When the other hip goes, I’ll be back in touch

In the meantime, I’d like to thank you so much

User

I’ve just got home after having an operation this morning, despite the horrendous weather you all managed to get to work, some from as far as Exeter, the nurses who looked after me could of done no more, you checked on me every five mins and after my op made me numerous amounts of tea, every single member of staff was so kind, the physio, anaesthetist, the lady on reception who helped me to my car (I’m on crutches in this weather)you’ve all been great and made sure I was warm enough and comfortable, I hope you all get home safely tonight and thank you for putting others before yourselves in this weather and being so caring.x

User

I'm home after three nights in Mount Stuart following major surgery. I have to say what a lovely bunch of staff they are from Richard and his tea tray, Atalia the cheerful cleaner, Roxanne Lauren and Caroline (the ward assistants), Debbie, Kathy and Sally Greaves (RGNs) to Mr Wallace, Mr Pappin and the medical staff (apologies if I've missed names out - too many to remember) I have never felt so looked after. Thank you for your kindness, care, professionalism and laughter. You are a wonderful team and an example to all.

User

I'd just like to say a massive thank you to all of the staff involved with me during my stay. This was my first surgery, and my day care nurse Laura really helped my anxieties about it all and even came to check on me before she went home which really meant a lot to me. Felt so comfortable in the care here, I really appreciate all of the help and advice received whilst staying. A massive thank you to all

User

I just returned home from my outpatient operation and eould like to thank all the staff in the hospital was s lovely place very caring and helpful especially sue my nurse she was fantastic thank you x

User

I had surgery yesterday morning and cannot thank the two nurses in the theatre enough, they were so naturally lovely and really helped as I was feeling very nervous and didn't know what to expect. One nurse held my hand throughout (not sure if that's because I wouldn't let go....) I really felt that they went above and beyond but I have a feeling it comes very naturally to them, they are a credit to the hospital.

Thank you very much.

User

I can't thank all the nursing/medical staff enough.. i was very nervous before my procedure, but everyone was so helpful, caring and understanding. Suzanne and Roxy were amazing and regularly checked on me and as soon as i was out of theatre and back in my own personal pod, tea, biscuits and toast were offered, and gratefully received. Thankyou.

User

Had my pre assessment on Friday 18th August for a procedure I'm having at the end of the month. The staff her are amazing so professional, friendly and extremely helpful. As a busy student nurse I only had a limited window of time to have my procedure done and the staff worked with me to help accommodate my needs. They reassured me and answered all questions fully, I felt very at easy. I felt very relaxed here and I am now looking forward to coming in at the end of the month as I know I will be well cared for. Highly recommend Mount Stuart for anyone thinking of using the hospital really excellent place.

User

User

Excellent hospital and service right from the reception staff to the nurses and consultant.

I recently had a procedure there and everyone was wonderful ,so caring and professional, they really put me at ease.

When I had a problem with the wound nothing was to much trouble I was seen immediately and treated.

I cannot praise them enough.

Thank you Mr Currie and your team for the 1st class treatment

User

Everyone was so helpful I can't express my thanks enough, nightstaff sorry for his name for the 3am pot of tea just what I needed, as to Roxanne what a little star she is. Everyone made it feel as if I was the only person there but of course there were others. I have been there before but things seem to get better and better. as for my consultant and his team five star plus. thanks Mount Stuart

User

All members of staff were very pleasant and professional when I had a shoulder operation. The outpatient appointments that I have had are always on time and my consultant MR Ramesh takes time to explain what the operation involves and why it is necessary to be done, this gives me reassurance. Mount Stuart is always clean reducing any risk of infections.

User

Absolutely over the moon with my treatment from start to finish. Many appointments/consultations/preop to day of surgery and over night stay. All staff so attentive and lovely. The ward was immaculate, food delish, and my room a home from home. Nothing was too much trouble, thank you all. This procedure will change my life... Massive praise to my surgeon Mr Green!!! and nursing staff, Faye, Lisa and Pat xx

User

I have been to the hospital on two occasions. On both occasions i have felt the reception to be a little terse. The welcome was non existent and asked for my name with a late muted Please!

The radiologist was also unwelcoming and brusk!

Perhaps i was expecting a better experience than what I was given?
