Platform-1 Experimental Description

Platform-1 is an experiment of sound.

Originally a project to create electronic dance music it has evolved to be experimental.

Platform-1 Experimental is a series of electronic audio projects that started life in the summer of 1994. Primarily a trance style with attempts to infuse an acid techno feel, the sound if somewhat disorganised was mostly quite abstract.

With that in mind a more experimental approach was adopted. As the projects have matured a harder and darker sound has emerged. Now the final project is an exploration of distorted percussive elements and breaks where melody is more of a harmonic disruption.
The Electric Abuse project was a conceived about a serious reforming of Platform-1 projects. Based on an involuntary eviction (hence the name of the first Interloper track), a serious approach was considered for this new project.

With the analogue synthesis long gone out the window since the Cosmic Airport days of the '90s mainly due to the theft of the Kenton Midi-CV converter, the new found technology of virtual studio was used. Despite the use of a huge ever-growing sample library, something from the old days was missing. The wandering but warm melodic warblings of the old unreliable, out of tune analogue relics was missing from this reliable cold digital but powerful, high quality sound. Most of the analogue synths had seen better days of their 30 years, the Korg Polysix always a reliable machine had succumb to the common leaky battery failure and when last used and only 2 of the six oscillators worked. It was never midi only synced on the arpeggiator, but did add a certain liquid glass like characteristic to the old Cosmic Airport sound. One of the SH101's was stolen with the Kenton, whilst the other although with an attempted retrofit which was never finished due to time is also not always reliable. Even the Mothership Korg 01 /WFD Workstation had died in the more recent years. At one point it did light up although no longer making any utterance of sound, now didn't even light up, becoming on of the worlds most heaviest doorstops or perhaps an interesting flowerbed. The Midi retrofitted Korg Mono /Poly luckily still works as does the two custom built ASP machines (Their individual hand build quality should work for decades to come), but still to this day have been omited from the equation due to time and the desire to mixdown from imported wav to exported wav without a single analogue note being played. The analogue haven that was Cosmic Airport has sold its soul to the computer age of virtual technology.

As this project matured with new found clarity and drumloops that could only have been dreamt of in the Cosmic Airport days, the need for real synthesis and real composition was becoming more and more apparent. Some attempts of using virtual synthesis has been attempted but hasnt quite hit home successfully. With more effort in that department, perhaps some success may be realised. Research into reviving this lost element is underway.

The tracks here represent the different styles that have evolved from the beginning and throughout the various projects.

New experimental tracks are being created all the time.
