IT’S COMPETITION TIME!
During the refurbishment of our museum, the building will be closed and hidden behind site hoardings. We are asking the younger members of East Dorset to get creative and help make our hoardings interesting and alive... with your art! You can choose from various media and draw inspiration from many threads, such as local history, events, people, objects, monuments, what you love about your locality and community, how you see your local museum of the fu...ture... the list goes on. Just get inspired! You could also win a quality new camera, generously donated by Castle Cameras, as well as having your artwork exhibited around the District and accessioned into the museum’s contemporary collection. The competition is free to enter and the closing date is Friday 22nd February 2019. LET’S GET CREATIVE!
This competition represents an exciting opportunity for local young people to demonstrate their artistic talents while creating a piece of history for future generations. So, pick up those pencils, brushes, needles, scissors and cameras and capture what inspires you about your locality.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at the museum! We're looking forward to the Save the Children Christmas Parade this Saturday in Wimborne. Come along to The Priest's House after the parade to meet Santa and to make a wish in the Great Pudding Stir. Also, from the 10 to 22 December (closed Sundays), 10am to 4pm, visitors will be able to celebrate the Christmas period with free admission to the museum. Seasonal refreshments will be available from the Garden Tea Room. 'Tis the season of good cheer - let the merriment begin!

Five have had an adventure in London today! Members of the Learning Team visited the Tower of London to receive their well deserved Sandford Award for high standards in heritage education. We had a wonderful time and even got to visit the Crown Jewels! 💎 👑 Well done everyone and thank you to all the organisers, our hosts, the Tower of London, and The Sandford Award. 😁

1st Woodcutts Beavers have paid a visit to the museum this evening to learn about the World Wars and Remembrance. They’ve made these beautiful poppies and written their own personal messages on the back. Aren’t they wonderful? Well done Beavers!

Why is it that it’s always the Snickers that go last? 😂😂

We are organising a day of events to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War on Saturday 10 November. A day of talks and presentations will explore East Dorset's role in the conflict and uncover life on the home front.
In the evening there will be a performance of 'The Gathering' in association with State of Play Arts and ScreenPLAY, documentary theatre commemorating the lives of two local soldiers. This will be a sign language interpreted performance.
For more information and booking details go to http://www.priest-house.co.uk/…/1…/31 8/East-Dorsets-War.html.

We are thrilled to be hosting 'Ebb 'N' Flow', a two part contemporary lace exhibition by Jane Atkinson. It examines the effects of climate change on a local landscape. The second part of the exhibition is at Walford Mill Crafts. It runs until 28 October 2018.

We serve communities across East Dorset, providing a wide range of outreach activities and learning programmes. The museum has recently been awarded Heritage Lottery funding for an exciting major re-development of the museum incorporating the East Dorset Information Centre that will transform our visitor offer and enable us to reach out to and engage new audiences. The Trust is seeking to appoint up to three new Trustees to join the Trustee Board.
For more information go to http://www.priest-house.co.uk/…/183/318 /Trustees-needed.html.

Tickets are still available to hear Alice Sage, curator of 'Wildflowers', uncover the stories of four girls from Edwardian Wimborne tomorrow evening.
Alice will scratch the surface of the so-called 'Golden Age' and look at how real children lived, worked and played. This fascinating talk is on Friday 28 September, 7pm at the Priest's House Museum. Tickets £5 available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116 (booking essential). The talk is part of the Unlocking the Bankes Archive Project, a partnership between Dorset History Centre, Kingston Lacy NT and the Priest's House Museum.

We’re ready for our visiting school children this morning who are learning about “The Stone Age to the Iron Age.” They will be taking part in our fantastic indoor Iron Age Archaeological Dig - a wonderful educational resource which allows the children to peel back the layers of history and bring archaeology to life!

The Priest’s House Museum is proud to be supporting Wimborne War on Waste’s Street Party on Saturday 22nd September.
In partnership with Wimborne WOW, one of our esteemed volunteers will be conducting a very special Indoor Archaeological Dig, encompassing the Iron Age through to the modern day during the afternoon. You will literally peel back the layers of time... This is a chance to learn all about archaeology and the effects of single use plastic on our environment in recent history.
Entry to the museum for this event is at a reduced rate of £1 per adult and children will go free. Hope to see lots of people for a fun and informative day!

I was only in the garden and cafe, for a private function, so I can't comment on the rest, hence just three stars.... but the parts I saw were wonderful. We had a lovely day.
