The South West region is suffering a staffing crisis in learning disability nursing with the region's last remaining specialist learning disability course at risk due to lack of applicants.
Watch families in Devon talk on BBC Spotlight last night about the important role their learning disability nurse has had for them .

It was an absolute privilege to join of the Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation NHS Trust cohort of Nursing Associates who celebrated joining the register today. The event successfully linked by Skype several sites across Devon to mark the qualification of the 62 Nursing Associates.
Congratulations all of you!! 🙌🥳

Newly qualified Nursing Associate Stacey McCabe was one of 62 Devon TNAs who joined the register today after the successful completion of their foundation degree. At the celebration event at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust today Stacy said:
“The last two years has been academically and emotionally challenging but it has also been rewarding and enjoyable. The group has been really supportive as have my employer and the college.”
Stacey has been successful in transferring straight into the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Plymouth. This pathway has enabled her to earn while studying; like many of her cohort, Stacey has a family to support and has juggled work placements, study and family to qualify. Congratulations Stacey and the rest of Devon’s Nursing Associates 🙌

The NMC is introducing new standards for education and training and you are invited to attend a free workshop to find out what this will mean for you.
These new standards set out the skills and knowledge that the next generation of nurses will need to deliver safe care. They will change the way that nursing students will learn while on placement.
The new changes to practice-based learning will impact all pre- and post-registration staff, including those returning to practice..., those in approved education institutions and practice placement providers.
One of the most significant changes is that mentors and sign-off mentors will be replaced by practice supervisors, practice assessors and academic assessors.
We want to ensure that all nursing staff understand the new standards, the ensuing changes to practice-based learning and what will be expected of them.
Find out more by attending one of our free workshops At this free half-day workshop you will:
- learn more about the new standards - discover more about the roles of practice supervisor, practice - assessor and academic assessor - understand the challenges and opportunities for practice-based learning.
Attending this free event will count towards your continuing professional development (CPD) for revalidation.
Registration starts at 10:00 am. The workshop runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Lunch will be provided from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm. This event is open to both RCN members and non-members. Book via the link provided or by claling 02920546460 and quote event number 786.

There will be a talk by Jenny Stevens from the Care Home Team on Dementia Friends.
This meeting is aimed at nursing staff who work in mid or north Devon and find the Exeter branch meetings on the first Tuesday evening of each month difficult to attend.
