Yesterday, we were proud to support Funtley Village Societys first village fete in many years, providing First Aid services, and CPR/AED demos to anyone keen to find out what a public access defibrillator will mean for the village residents.
I think all agreed that the fete was a resounding success, and I don't think it will be long now before the village has at least one defibrillator purchased from the funds raised.
I had intended to take some more pictures, but didn't seem... to find time between demos. We had people of all ages interested, from the very young, to the young at heart; and managed to dispel at few myths, rumours and mis-truths, such as "you need training to use an AED" (No you don't), or "it might hurt someone if they don't need a shock" (No, it will only give a shock if the person is in Cardiac Arrest and needs a shock).
Quite a few people gave the CPR and AED's a try, and were surprised at how simple and easy it is.

This Saturday - 23rd June 2018, Funtley Village Society will be holding their first ever Funtley Village Fete, and RescueSkills will be there!
Part of the fundraising effort is to fund at least one public access defibrillator (AED) for the village, and we're delighted to be able to help the village with some CPR and AED demos, and donating our services for the first aid services provision at the event.
Please come along to support the event - it's looking like a great forecas...t, and there will be lots of traditional village fete entertainment.
Parking is free at our old office location, at Shogun Business Centres on Funtley Hill, with just a short walk to the field where the fete is being held.

Sorry folks, it looks like our website and email servers might go down for a few hours soon. I've just arrived home to find the power had been off, but was currently on. Next door one way have power, but not the other way. Scottish and Southern have just been around the road with a heat seeking camera looking for the underground cable fault, but can't see anything. They confirm that just one of the three phases is affected, but of course they can't dig the road with a fault condition on the line, so will have to shut our power down whilst they dig and repair. Current estimates are likely to be the early hours at best before we get power back.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Over the weekend, John took part in the Swimathon, raising money for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie UK. Here's the story of how he got on.

Thank you to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for producing some fantastic marine safety items.
We're stocking a range of the leaflets and stickers in the office if people would like to collect locally (all free of charge), and John will be carrying some when he is out and about paddleboarding or sea swimming, trying to spread the word.

As many of you know, John loves his swimming, and so has set himself a challenge for April.
Please dig deep in your pockets to support his efforts for Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie UK, and the Swimathon Foundation.
RescueSkills will be donating an amount for each First Aid or Health & Safety course booked with us between now and the Swimathon event in April.

Did you read our recent article about the changes in instructions for Epipen? These devices are now starting to appear through pharmacies locally it would seem.

RescueSkills would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous New Year.
We hope you will be able to enjoy some time away from work, but please don't choke on an undercooked brussel sprout, hurt your foot standing on a lego brick whilst showing off your Christmas socks, have a heart attack through too much stress because the turkey juices aren't running clear yet, or become unresponsive through too much festive spirit!
For those of you unable to take a break due to work comitments. or volunteering, we take our hat off to you.

RECALL NOTICE - B&Q Remote Control Socket
Here at RescueSkills, we love remote control sockets - when we leave the office, everything that doesn't need to be left turned on is turned off, some by remote switches. Luckily the ones we use here aren't these B&Q models, but we'll be keeping an eye on them, just in case.
A recent check for PAT Testing reveals that a lot of this kind of product only complies with a very generic British Standard.
... As Christmas tree lights can become a fire risk, many people use these to turn them off at night. Please check if you are using them.
