About Rheged

Destination for family activities, cinema, food, arts & culture, and a conference & events venue. Sister site to Tebay Services and Gloucester Services.

Rheged Description

There’s nowhere quite like Rheged, where the arts meet good food, family and fun under a green grass roof. It’s where we share every aspect of what we love about our place, with brilliant food, art in our gallery, cinema and shopping from both here and further afield. Grown-ups love our live streamed opera and ballet, spa and shops, but families are among our most important visitors. Play is part of the fabric of Rheged, from the outdoor play area to a cinema made for 3D movies.

Entry to the centre is free. Events can be booked online at www. rheged.com.

Open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. On site Petrol Station (24hrs) and Electric Car Charging Point (8am - 5. 30pm)

Wonderful activities but a bit expensive with 3 Grandchildren ......excellent food too. Very smarty dressed girl on Reception helpful as they were soooo disappointed some activities were full ...she also went the extra to find and bring Grandma a wheel chair. Thank you also for provision if wheelchairs meaning we don't have to haul ours in the boot etc.

We had a wonderful visit with our children and friends on Tuesday. The animal handling was brilliant, the children loved getting so close to so many creatures and the lady taking the session was fantastic with them all.

I was also very impressed with the Roald Dahl exhibition and would love to see it again, perfect fun for all ages!

A very enjoyable day out, we’ll definitely be back, thankyou.

Took my daughter to the Animation with Mythological Creatures workshop for a birthday treat and it was fantastic, she thoroughly enjoyed herself!

Sheryl was brilliant with the kids and my daughter was delighted with her mythological creature (she opted to make a Phoenix) and her animations!

First time visiting Rheged, it’s a lovely centre, really beautiful inside and although we didn’t stay longer after the workshop we will be back to visit in the future!

My three and five year old enjoyed the Peter Rabbit exhibition, a big room full of activities for them to do at their leisure and they enjoyed lounging in the cinema room watching an episode afterwards. It was a wet miserable day but we arrived later in the day when it was quietening down. I expect it would be less enjoyable at peak times when the children would battle it out!

Love Rheged and me and my partner Colin always stop off there when we are in Cumbria. What makes Rheged stand out is the customer service - especially on a recent visit. We had a lovely breakfast made all the better by Paula and Scott - nothing was too much trouble - they are a credit to Rheged

I've been here many many times and love it a little more every time! The cinema is fab, the exhibitions are always wonderful and the food/drink options are always worth staying awhile for! Great place to stop for a break on a long journey or great as a destination in itself.

Had a lovely day today at Rheged. The Santa grotto was brilliantly organised, with the craft section at the start to keep the kids busy. Santa and his elves did a fab job of helping my scared two year old feel at ease and chatted with my son and his two friends really nicely. The pottery staff were really helpful getting us paints etc. In the pod cafe my hungry daughter was starting to have a tantrum and my son getting overexcited and the chap who served me was so reassuringly calm and helpful throughout. So well done Rheged, your staff have done a great job today!

User

Great day out. Lots to do for children and prices reasonable. Food choices were just above average. No jacket potatoes and one of children's options was Cumberland sausage which when asked if was spicy was told yes it was. So that was out. The food we asked for came out very quick and piping hot. My daughter and granddaughter ordered children's meals. Not a problem with that. Excellent place to go and we will be back. Because we didn't get to do everything 👌The young girl on reception was fab. Only downside was the closing time of 5.30 cos we didn't have time to fit it all in

User

Would have given 5* as the venue is good, easy to get to and very reasonably priced, but there were two issues. The first was the poor Internet connection which meant that some of the stalls had difficulty with their card machines (costing them some trade I would suspect) and the second was the poor attitude of one of the staff in the mid level canteen (I think that she was the supervisor) who, despite the best efforts of the two younger members on assisting members of the public, spent more time moving the filled rolls around in the chiller and moaning at the two of them than doing any real work. These two issues would not stop me visiting there again.

We came for the day today for my little girls birthday. She really enjoyed the soft play and pottery painting, I thought the price for the pottery was really reasonable compared to what you can pay elsewhere. The lady running those areas Shelley was lovely, really friendly and helpful. My only criticism, like some other reviews I have read, is the dining options. There were lots of other families there today with young children but the menu/restaurant choices are really not geared towards younger people so we struggled find an appropriate place to eat. Also would be worth having a sign to say when the outdoor play area is closed

User

Easy to find great parking and easy access to all areas for disabled. Knit and Stitch event was very well organised and made use of the whole venue.

On the down side food cafes very disapointing in terms of choice - better selection in Greggs and the prices are extortionate £7.50 for tea and toast! I checked beforehand and was advised great selection otherwise i would have pacmed some lunch. All there was was buns pies cakes and soup apart from one cafe serving a pmlimited choice of hot meals. For one of North Cumbria's top venues i think you need to review this as it has a potential to bring more revenue if more choice and better more affordable prices.

User

A well situated venue, sited well away from any built up areas, easy peasy to get to off the A66. A welcome break from the road with a monitored outdoors play area for the kiddies. A good collection of eateries with a few shops to browse through. A good little venue for exhibitions and conferences.

User

As a family with small children we paid £18 for the tickets (exhibition only) and felt that although what they had to look at was good and the kids loved it, it didn't take very long to do (40-45 mins tops) and wasn't worth the price we paid. We would have felt happier if we could have paid this for the film to be included. We believed that the exhibit and extras here would take us most of the day to do...and now we have to plan something else to do on the way home!

User

A great exhibition and lovely place! However couple of issues. The small cafe to the left as you came in the the service was terrible. We waited 25 mins just to have our order taken for 3 drinks then another 15 mins for it too arrive. The young ladies attitude who was taking orders needs some addressing. The other complaint is I had a partially sited lady with me, and the shop on the right with jewellery etc it steps to each level, so we had to go out to come back in. The steps up too the cafe in the middle were an issue too! It wouldn't stop us going again, however disabled access does need addressing.

User

The place is like a maze, narrow walkways everywhere, maybe good for kids running about but a real chore finding where each shop or exhibit is, not what I like from a shopping experience, the place has no flow at all. Food was very nice but again a hodgepodge of cafes which weren't big enough.

User

Touted as a great place to go in the leaflets, as a family place, a bit like the metro center here in the north east, well it isn't!!! First of all we went to paint the pottery which fair enough you had to pay for the lady was nice but she took a break the man behind the till had a personality of head master who just been told he was working the summer holidays.

Then paid £9 for 2 kids and a baby who just turned 12 months and can only bum shuffle when it suits her, to go in the soft play which is about the size of my living room and kitchen.. (They aren't big I can assure you) instead of whacking on a but peppa pig on the screen they have some bizarre cameras so gives an excuse for parents to be even more shitty and sit on their phones and not watch their kids.

Shops were terrible, felt like a shop lifter browsing one store, surprise you had to walk through the toy shop to get to the children's activities..

Went to the Lego exhibition and that was £2.50 per person so would have cost £10 for our family to see a bit of Lego (I do regularly see on a fair bit of duplo at home I was not going to pay for the privilege).

So thought 'oh we will take them to the play area outside it looks great', to find they wanted £1.50 per kid!!!! My kids were upset they thought we were lying saying they charged for an outdoor play area. Terrible all just a huge money making racket! Charging for an outdoor play area is just the worst. Won't ever recommend or come back!

User

Paid £18 for the dinosaur encounter that had a hour + a half slot only to be in + out in 20 mins if that, defo not worth the money, great moving dino's but nothing else worth mentioning...police all over the place which worried us only to find out they do training there, came out at 3:45 + the play fort was shut, the burger van was shut there was a ice cream parlour + sweet shop which had nothing in + where shut, spent longer doing the craft swords which was the only decent thing other than that a waste of my money!!
