This is the Official Facebook page for the Royal Marines Reserve unit in Bristol, SouthWest and South Wales

Rmr Bristol Hq Description

The Royal Marines Reserve is the volunteer reserve force used to augment the regular Royal Marines in times of war or national crisis. The RMR consists of some 750 trained ranks distributed among the four units within the UK. About 10 percent of the force are working with the Regular Corps on long-term attachments in all of the Royal Marines regular units. All the volunteers within the RMR must pass through the same rigorous commando course as their regular counterparts. The former may be civilians with no previous military experience or may be former regular Royal Marines.

When you’re looking for a challenge that pushes you to your limits, you couldn’t do better than completing the world’s toughest military training – and earning that coveted green beret.

As a Royal Marines Reservist you’ll be an elite member of about 600 people who combine their civilian jobs with serving as part-time, fully trained Commandos. Just like regular Royal Marines Commandos, you’ll learn to deploy your skills in any location, environment and terrain.

Once you have some experience, you’ll have the chance to specialise in assault engineering, anti-tank warfare, signals and other skills, turning you into one of the most elite sources of extra military strength in the world.

Have you got what it takes?

Today marks an important date in the Corps history. 315 years ago Gibraltar was captured. This battle is immortalised on the Corps Globe and Laurel.
The Capture of Gibraltar – 24 July 1704
The famous attack upon Gibraltar, which led to its surrender to the British, on 24 July 1704 was carried out by a brigade of British and Dutch Marines, 1,800 strong, under the command of Prince George of Hesse-Darmstadt. In the following October, Gibraltar was besieged by the French and Spa...nish. The Marine brigade, which had been reinforced shortly before by a further 400 Marines from the British Fleet, held the fortress against repeated attacks until the siege was raised on 9 March, 1705. In one incident in this fighting, Captain Fisher of the Marines with 17 of his men, successfully defended the Round Tower against the continued assaults of 500 French Grenadiers. A contemporary report of this noted defence says, “Encouraged by the Prince of Hesse, the garrison did more than could humanly be expected, and the English Marines gained an immortal glory.”
