At 3.37pm this afternoon Calshot RNLI D Class Lifeboat 'Willet' was tasked to a vessel aground near Hythe. It was unknown if there were any persons on board so our volunteer crew were tasked to investigate. Click below to read the full details.

Calshot RNLI Lifeboat volunteers recently spent a day visiting fellow south coast rescue teams to learn more about how each one operates. Thanks to Hill Head Coastguard Rescue Team, Rescue 175 helicopter, and HM Coastguard - National Maritime Operations Centre for their time. Take a look at what we got up to...

At 4.33pm Calshot D Class Lifeboat 'Willet' was tasked to a vessel aground on Western shelf with two persons on board, one of which had become wet and cold from trying to refloat the yacht. Calshot's volunteer crew located the vessel and were able to recover it to safety in the River Itchen where Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team were also on scene. Occupants are now safe and warm, and the lifeboat has returned to station.
If you're out on the water it's important to ensure you have the right equipment such as life jackets, radio, and lights, especially at this time of year when it gets darker earlier.

This morning the station welcomed Sheila Peters, daughter Julie and grandson Andrew, who's kind donation in 2011 funded Calshot RNLI's D Class Lifeboat 'Willet'.
'Willet' has to date been out on 274 shouts, spent 8,642 hours at sea, and saved 7 lives.

Today we remember all the brave men and women who fought and are still fighting for us, and hold a special thought for those who did not return to their loved ones.
We are very proud of our own volunteer JP Headley (picture of his service medals) who will be taking part in the Remembrance parade through Fawley Village at 2.30 today.
Lest we forget ❤

While out on exercise this afternoon Calshot RNLI Atlantic 85 Lifeboat 'Max Walls' was tasked by HM Coastguard to a tender in difficulties in rough conditions.
Having attempted to row the tender from their yacht to the shore, the tender had been blown onto the foreshore and the person on board was unable to get back out to the yacht. Remaining persons on board the yacht alerted the HM Coastguard after losing sight of the tender.

Last night during our weekly training exercise, both Calshot Lifeboats were asked by HM Coastguard to carry out a search between the Itchen Bridge and Woolston area after reported sighting of a red flare.
The Atlantic 85 Lifeboat searched from the Itchen Bridge down river towards Netley, while the D Class Lifeboat conducted a shore line search.
Nothing was found and both boats then returned to station.
... A red flare is a distress flare and should only be used in an emergency situation. If you do find yourself or see someone in trouble in the water you can also dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

At 8.55am this morning both Calshot RNLI Lifeboats were launched to assist Cowes RNLI Lifeboat with an incident just outside Cowes Harbour.
Just after 8am today Red Falcon Ferry had collided with at least two yachts whilst trying to berth at the entrance of Cowes Harbour during heavy fog.
At around the same time a 999 call came in from a member of the public reporting that he’d heard cries for help within Cowes Harbour.
... Rescue crews carried out an extensive search of the area, which included both Calshot RNLI Lifeboats, Cowes RNLI Lifeboat, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team. A Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was searching the area but due to the low visibility in the area had to turn back.
The ferry with 56 persons was grounded at the entrance at Cowes. Those persons onboard were all safe and well.
HM Coastguard were able to confirm that there was nobody in the water or missing in Cowes Harbour. HM Coastguard made contact with the person who was initially heard crying for help and he is reported to be safe and well. They have established that the person was onboard his own vessel and crying out to try and alert the master of the ferry of the situation.
The Red Falcon, with assistance of tugs, has been refloated and is now in the process of going alongside in East Cowes where MCA surveyors will make an assessment of the vessel.
All passengers remain safe and well and will disembark when the vessel is safely alongside.
Calshot RNLI volunteer crew have now been stood down and returned to station.
Any witnesses who saw the collision, the grounding and/or any passengers onboard the Red Falcon are requested to contact MCA Investigations and Enforcement Unit via email at enforcement.unit@mcga.gov.uk leaving their contact details so that we can get in touch.
Thank you to MCA for the update and Nick Edwards (Cowes DLA and photographer) for the image.
