Crossing parish mag May mutterings.....
May is very indecisive, as a month that is, also weatherwise. What? We are expecting great things this month when it comes to the large yellow ball in the sky. We are hoping for more of the Easter bank holiday weekend type weather. Big yellow ball hanging around for a while longer perhaps. It was glorious and some people went pink with joy! We have a good variety of things in the shop to help cool you down a bit when it comes back. Cold... soft drinks in our chiller along with chilled white wine, Cava and Prosecco. Brrr. Getting colder now, over in the freezer there are ice poles which always seem to go well, in any weather actually. Our freezer is full of cool stuff. Not just one Cornetto either, loads! Does anyone get that reference anymore? If you sang the advert to a small child, I am sure they would attack you with their ice pole to make you stop! Or they could use a Magnum. No, not the gun, the tasty chocolatey frozen treat. Speaking of guns, The Amazing Fly Gun is still on sale for those pesky flying bugs but, let us not dwell on the doomed, the Bluebottle is one bottle that is not going to be recycled! Nuff said. No? Alright I'll carry on then. Soleros, Twisters and Feasts are also refreshingly available.
For those who do not wish to wolf it on the hoof, or paw, whatever, then relax and chill with delicious Taw River Dairy ice cream! Here's a scoop, we had a very successful taster afternoon and evening the other Friday ( Remember, we are open later on Fridays for the foreseeable so please pop along; there may be other lovely things to nibble or sip too!) They have Blackcurrant, Strawberry, Honeycombe flavours amongst others and zesty (zesty, really struggling with adjectives here!) sorbets in combination with other big guns (go on, make my day; I'm obsessed!) such as Sandford Orchards Cider Sorbet and Black Dog Gin Sorbet. You can also buy the component parts in a handy bottle too! Geddit? Hic. We also stock Rookbeare Farm ice cream, as we always have. Vanilla and Stem Ginger are always good sellers and we have small tubs of assorted flavours and yes, there is a spoon in the lid. I'd watch it if it was called Game of Cones! It may be a bit of nostalgia but not lacking in good quality that we have Lyons Maid Vanilla Ice Cream too. Created in 1925 it eventually disappeared but was revived in 2008 and is ever popular. Sandford Community Stores may have changed over the years but certain famous well-established brands will always be on the shelves. Hartleys, Heinz. Tetleys, McVities, Colmans, Whitworths, Ambrosia, Kelloggs, PG Tips, Bisto, Hellmans, Silver Spoon and Cadburys. Still around and still available. Cheers Stu ps How does Reece eat her ice cream.
