Scratchy Black Cat

About Scratchy Black Cat

We're a five piece acoustic group. We play a mix of mainly classic folky popular songs; although we are presently putting together our new sets and working on arrangements. We play for fun and filthy hard lucre.

Scratchy Black Cat Description

Tom, Steve and Pam are teachers at a primary school in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. One day Steve called in sick and another local supply teacher was called in to cover his class. That teacher was Darren. Even on Steve's return to work, Darren was given work teaching the lovely children of said school. Quickly, a common interest in playing music was discovered and before long, instruments were frequently presented and strummed during assemblies and school fetes.
Out of the blue, Pam found herself invited to 'do a turn' singing at a charity fund-raiser in London. Suddenly faced with an audience of thousands (well, dozens as it turned out) Pam had a sudden failure of confidence and enlisted the boys to help. Thus, 'the band' was born. The gig went really well and they surprised themselves by not sucking. This, they thought, is worth exploring.
Meeting at Steve's place, Darren, Pam and now Tom went through a few tunes and the idea of a band was cemented. We also met Steve's cat. Steve's cat is black and scratchy, and is a fan of acoustic music (probably). It is after this magnificent animal that we take our name.
Paul joined the band later, after a rather drunken Robert Burns Night 'recital' - he brings another guitar and some colouring in.
